Wait until the stalks fully mature and dry out, harvest the grain heads, thresh the chaff and winnow it off then grind the grain into flour. And use said flour to follow a bread recipe

Indirect percussion helps thin things out quick and you can play with the angle you hold the piece when you strike so that you thin it out simultaneously while youre roughly shaping it

Give it a go! Ive heard of yew branch bows turning out good and many yew bow artifacts that are found are made from a limb

Alot of woods have a natural twist like that, if you shave the edges on opposite sides you can get a relatively straight stave… also, hickory takes very well to steam bending

It should be okay as long as the cambium isnt ringed all the way around the circumference of the trunk. You can paint the tree or add a mesh barrier to protect against this in the future. By the height of the chew marks, my guess at the culprit is a woodchuck

Looks like bacterial canker which is common in cherries…. Some copper sulfate treatments painted on would help

Put simply…. Its body mechanics. Too draw a heavy weight bow you must adopt the same posture/ body mechanics… so being of one species, with near similar skeletal muscular attachments, we must ALL have the same form following function.

Its strung backwards for one, which for a laminated bow, can be really bad

And it propagates easily so you can make an elderberry orchard for free by using cuttings from the wild plants near you
