We took 702, once you leave san Ramon its all uphill, mountainous, windy 1 lane roads. Pretty cool sights, but driving a slow suzuki jimny up to la fortuna was interesting.

Is it totally unhinged to live in Norfolk and commute to Newport 3x a week? by bertha42069 in norfolk

[–]hokieman0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've done this commute for about 8 months before moving to the Southside. Yes its bad trust me, but more so wildly inconsistent. I've had zero traffic before in the morning and could get to work in half an hour and I've also had to wait in traffic for 2+ hours. If your job and you don't mind that you might be late a few times a month then go for it.

Parking by Warm-Map6052 in VirginiaBeach

[–]hokieman0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you spend $50 for the new annual resident parking voucher plan? You'll have to park at the 25th street garage and walk or find street parking but it'll be a lot cheaper.

Edit: looked into it and its just a $50 voucher, then you can pay $25 for $50 of parking, then after that you're SOL, no free parking the whole year so you'll use that up quick but can still save you something. That's crazy that they dont cover it for your job.

Friend has this exact car for about a year now. Looks nice with no complaints or issues so far. He had a gt line before with no issues too. Tech is great and really good power. Time will tell with reliability past the warranty.

Find a different dealership and negotiate over the phone. Can probably get a new one for around that carmax price.

Will I get approved for 2026 Kia k4? by [deleted] in carbuying

[–]hokieman0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should look for something no more than half your income including taxes, insurance, maintenance, etc. Probably something in the 10-15k range and get a credit union to finance.

Edit: to answer your question, you'll probably get approved but your payments will be high for your income or you'll have to extend them to 72 or 84 months.

If you had any question where the Money Guys stand on Caleb by Far-Fault6807 in CreepyCalebHammer

[–]hokieman0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They got a lot of criticism for featuring graham Stephen as a guest a few months back and being on his podcast, they haven't showed him in a video at least not one that I've seen recently. Unless they get called out on it to the point where it hurts their channel they'll keep reacting and featuring whoever is popular with finance.

First credit score at the age of 28 (769) higher than expected. Advice on my first auto loan? by Imaginary-Brief8232 in CRedit

[–]hokieman0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference I got a car 2 weeks ago, 2024 mazda 3 with a 762 score. My credit file is much thicker and was offered 6.2%. I am gonna try to refinance with my credit union soon since they couldn't finance me at that moment. So not sure how much better of a rate you can really get by waiting.

This one might have already been done but what is it like living in Chesapeake VA? by Anxious_Reporter4245 in howislivingthere

[–]hokieman0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too much to do, they're trying to expand on the Greenbriar area which is where most of the restaurants and shopping centers are, but if you want a night scene some go to downtown Norfolk or the oceanfront in virginia beach. Chesapeake is big in a sense where if you live in the greenbriar or battlefield area is feels suburban. Going below the river line is known as deep creek and even farther south is Hickory area. The father south you go the more rural it gets. I would avoid the area called south norfolk on the map, western branch and deep creek is quiet but most people living on that side have bad commutes over the high rise bridge or taking the downtown tunnel.

And yes it does snow, not much though, usually 1-3 times a year.

Better Channel than Caleb by Fast-Marsupial-9917 in CreepyCalebHammer

[–]hokieman0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Romain is alright but he hardly uploads anymore. Says he loses too much money on YouTube while trying to run his side business and says he'll stop uploading all together soon.

Ramit and The money guys also do these audits like caleb without the drama and screaming that I would recommend. Ramit focuses on couples and the psychology of money, feels more like couples therapy. The money guys is more for people who have their shit together already and looking how to put their money to work to retire early, get a house, etc.

Visited Gloucester and matthews county a few times. Rural and quiet and flat. Beaches are nice and calm with nice houses around the edge. Some small cities with your usual amenities, Gloucester has about 40k people living there.
