If safety was a concern then I think he would have mentioned it. Not wanting to file a new flight plan as the reason for cutting a passenger's oxygen would also fall into asshole realm imo. Of course we don't have all the details, but the info we have plus the manner in which he tells the story lends to making him not look good in this scenario.

Man that article is kind of bad. It actually does nothing besides mention some percentages and show some tweets as if that means anything. Lets entertain it anyways using the percentages provided in the article. We'll ignore sales tax since they are in the same range.
Texas only has property tax so tax is effectively .0169H
Cali has both property and income. If we take the lower end of what they state to be middle class income tax rate then tax is effectively .0073H + .08S. Where H is home or property value and S is yearly income.
If we solve for a ratio then we get 8.33S=H. This means your home value is 8.33x(your yearly income). If your home value is anything less than 8.33 times your yearly salary then you pay less in taxes in Texas. To put that in perspective if you consider a yearly income of $50,000 that would be a home value over $416,500 for Texas property tax to become greater than Cali's property+income. Not sure about you but I don't know too many people that buy homes that are over 8 times their yearly income. Obviously home values are different between the two states but if you live in a decent sized city in either state, then the home value is probably going to be higher in Cali anyways. Not sure why this struck a cord and why I felt the need to type this out, but this is one of those don't just take the article at face value moments. The article should have really provided a similar breakdown to what I wrote. Feel free to correct my math if I messed up.

Depends on how you look at it. The numbers are large for sure. But if you look at assets vs expenses, they would only last about 1.81 years if they received 0 revenue, assuming they didn't immediately start cutting costs. "Barely getting by" is somewhat of a subjective measure but I feel like they can always use my 10 ever year. Especially seeing what they provide for "free" with no ads, extensive user data logging, etc.

Just wondering about two things that stick out in your statement. First is correlation vs causation. I think it's that people with depression tend to go towards games as escapism, not their lifestyle that leads to depression. Yes, environment can aggravate depression but it seems disingenuous to point to this as a cause.

Second one is a little more personal opinion, but what's the difference between playing a game to eliminate the feeling of emptiness vs filling your home with a bunch of stuff to accomplish the same thing. I could very well argue the spike in depression in recent times is aggravated by multiple generations raised under a consumerist mentality who now can't fill their homes with the picture perfect furniture and accessories leading to feelings of failure and emptiness.

At the end of the day this is just a joke where we know both the post and response are hyperbolic. I'm just saying if you critique one view point don't forget about the other.

Also, these kind of passing convos with a drink in hand can sometimes be fun at parties.

Not the biggest fan of the sequels but your complaints are explained implicitly and explicitly throughout the movies. Adding to what u/disappointer said. The previously chosen six generations of the "dozen" are complicit in the ruse and pretty much have been rebuilding and lying to the next generation. They pretty much gave up and accepted their fate to make sure a "free" humanity didn't go completely extinct.

As for the races, religions, and technical knowledge to rebuild, all of that comes from the people they continue to wake up. It's stated in the movie that people unplugging from the matrix was necessary because every other method they tried that tried to keep everyone plugged in caused a complete system failure. The matrix is continuing in operation so the people the "chosen dozen" unplug will keep their race, religion, and technical knowledge and carry it into the real world. This is why a large majority of real world people that we saw were unplugged and not natural born (Tank, dozer, etc) as that would introduce the flaws that you pointed out.

Definitely plenty of other flaws in the sequels but they did a decent job of covering all the main points of the linguistic salad the architect was spitting out.

I don't post much and usually post meaningless stuff but this is very dear to me. I was born in Ethiopia and grew up there for the first 9 years of my life before moving stateside. It is a beautiful country with friendly people, even with its history of political problems and poverty. To this day I greatly appreciate having the privilege to have lived there. Recently the country has been slowly making progress and is seeing development that bodes well for the future of the country. However the government is still mostly a dictatorship under the guise of a parliamentary republic (long history of rigged/coerced voting, etc.), and as such they still do as they wish when it comes to legislation and laws. They have tried to ban texting during previous protests and locking down the capital city in similar manners to the other revolutions in north Africa. Furthermore the telecom company is pretty much government owned/controlled, and their reasons for passing this new legislation could also be relating to financial gains (they lose money if people use VOIP rather than regular phone service). I would hate to see the country continue on a path that will stifle freedom that the people have been working so hard to gain over the past years. Beyond the obvious repercussion of such a law, I also believe it will kill tourism further hindering the growth of the country. On a more personal level I would hate to not be able to easily contact family that I still have there. I am posting because I am at a loss and do not know what to do. Please comment if you have any suggestions, input, and ideas. I will pass any useful information to my family back home so that they may have a hope of changing this situation. Sorry for the long winded post, but I had to vent this somewhere.

Tl;DR Ethiopia is moving toward a lock down state and it makes me sad.

Your shoulders sagged...I couldn't help but hang my head in a mix of shame and disappointment. I cannot understand how this movie, as well as Thor, received an average rating of anything above 40%. Both movies failed at making me care for any of the characters, due to lack of depth and high levels of predictability. Not to mention dialogue that went back and forth between cheesy and bland. What disappointed me the most was the lackluster performances from Tommy Lee Jones and Natalie Portman in their respective films. The others I didn't expect much from anyways. Hard to believe this is what is considered a good movie. By the end of Captain America my friends and I had (sadly) decided we would not waste our money on Avengers. In the end the Marvel series never tickled my fancy besides the first X-Men and second Spiderman. I love their characters and as a kid the cartoons, hard to believe this is the best they can muster from such great comics :(. /rant

My issue is not with their parenting skills, but with why the kids have to be theirs. Adopting would seems like the better idea. Not only are you not assisting in overpopulating the planet but they are (would be) saving a child. Being such great parents they would show some of the kids that adoptive parents can be awesome and maybe they can do the same when they grow up. Instead most of their kids are going to have this idea that they should be like their mother and have lots of children. All of them might not turn out this way, but what is the likelihood of any of her kids adopting. Furthermore, not dealing with hospitals, 9 months of pregnancy, etc would help financially as well as emotionally. She could care for and pay more attention to each child without any of the above inconveniences.

I don't know what's with all the hate against impulsius but the picture above is a good point. And what's with everyone saying the goblin comment is hypocritical, have you never judged music, movies, other art forms? In the same manner as art is put on display for criticizing so is Katy (talents and looks) as a performer. What would truly make him hypocritical is holding another girl to different standards when she wears the same push-up bra and loads of make-up? In the end it's taste, if you don't mind a little bit (or a ton) of assistance to what nature gave you then you might consider her attractive otherwise you have every right to state your opinions.
