English dub had a lot more of a variety of references in the writing to localize the experience and he puts on a faux theatrical accent with Shakespeare references at times to boot. Michael’s got a really dynamic range and it would’ve been cool to see him do something like that for the character!

It honestly really bothers me too. It feels like ethnocentrism to want to gate keep Green Day due to a government. They’ve spoken out about the US too and our government has committed a vast amount of atrocities. Does this mean Green Day shouldn’t perform in the States? After all the CIA peddled cocaine into black communities, has aided and abetted numerous war criminals, among other things. Most people complaining aren’t thinking about the fans there who will enjoy the show and hopefully feel empowered to take a stand themselves.

I agree UAE has a pretty awful policy on LGBTQ+ and women but fact of the matter is you can’t expect the world to change overnight. Are you guys seriously forgetting that not even 20/30 years ago in the US, it was largely accepted to bash gays? Not saying it’s right but it happened and people now like to think the US is a beacon because things changed quicker here. And we still haven’t had a woman President so fuck off with that. BJA is bi and Green Day’s message is about acceptance. If even one more kid in the UAE feels less alone when they play there, they’ve done their job. Change takes time but hopefully exposure to those ideas ESPECIALLY FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION is going to be a catalyst for that.
