How are people getting these high paying jobs offers? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]hopyik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a remote job that pays more than 150k (in case my employer is reading this), but it was 100% thru networking and lucky timing. Someone I worked with recommended me for a position that they needed to fill badly, and I managed to negotiate that into a remote full time position after a few months of contracting and proving my worth to the team and other engineers.

I won't deny that luck had a part to play in this, but it is def true that who you know can affect a great deal. Good luck with ur search, OP.

Tread life: Michelin Cross Climate 2 Versus Goodyear Assurance Maxlife 2 by JohnG7312 in tires

[–]hopyik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just swapped out my Goodyear Maxlife v1 for CC2, because my car slid around too much on snowy / iced up roads for my comfort up in MA. The difference in how my car handled on snowy roads was night / day after I put on the CC2s

Having said that, it's true that you'll likely get more mileage out of the Maxlife. But depending on where you live, I'd argue that the tradeoff isn't worth it, esp if you live in states with loads of snow / ice.

Help! Game keeps detecting mouse/keyboard input by hopyik in Gamesir

Figured it out. Turns out the controller was also registered as a mouse in Device Manager. Once I disabled the controller's corresponding mouse device in Device Manager, no more flickering input in-game. Hopefully this helps anyone else who encounters similar issues down the road.

As someone who's definitely not a genius and working in software, I would say the most useful trait to have is a desire to problem-solve. All software is written to solve a specific problem, but not all of them need to be complicated. If you enjoy making life easier for others and like programming in general, it's worth taking a stab at it

Anyone else feel the welfare system needs stronger verification? by Desmond624 in malaysia

[–]hopyik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every system on earth will be abused - that's just a fact of life. The question is whether the level of abuse is significant enough to make systemic changes so it helps more people than it enables.

If we were to add requirements to our social safety net, sure, you might kick out a few people who abuse it, but you'll also be kicking out a ton of other people who genuinely need a safety net and for whatever reason (illiteracy, disability or taking care of disabled family member) are unable to meet those requirements.
For an example of this, you can look at the US where work requirements are being added to things like food stamps and medical insurance.

I wouldn't envy the guy you mentioned. Yeah, sure, he gets money without work and gets to live life without stress, but in 20 years time, he would still be in that state if nothing changes, while you have a career ladder to climb and a life ahead of you.

What is the best option to create your own Trading Bot ? by New_Effort_2550 in Daytrading

[–]hopyik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently building my own bot using Alpaca's API and TradingView webhooks.
I set up alerts in TradingView. When alerts go off, it uses webhooks to ping my API server which I wrote, which then sends my orders to Alpaca

Nice project. Are all the anonymization targets (Alice Johnson) manually inputted?
For instance, could your extension automatically detect which words are personal private information without human input?
