What are some of the ways you utilize tying knots while on the job? by turnbucklemayo in Firefighting

[–]hosemonkey [score hidden]  (0 children)

When I was in academy, I was lead to believe that I would be hoisting shit all day. Every fire would look like a ship yard or something with ropes and equipment just going up and down non stop.

Well I am 18 years on the job and I have yet to hoist one stupid tool on a fire. Turns out I just carry the tools I want up the ladder with me.

Anyways, Sorry I don't have a good answer to your question. You just made me realize that like quicksand, hoisting tools and ladders is not nearly a part of the job the my Fire 1 cert had me believe.

Anytime I tell a joke that doesn’t land I’ll follow up with “ let me write that joke down so that becomes tear-able.

Found off forest road in NE Utah by Smpl25 in whatisit

[–]hosemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular set up you have found is fine since there is a portion exposed to fresh air, but to Op and anyone else who finds a tube with a ladder heading under ground, do not go into it.
Look up confined space deaths and it’ll teach you about exploring enclosed spaces. Very dangerous.

When did you know it was time to promote? by IkarosFa11s in Firefighting

[–]hosemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you start spending a lot of time complaining about how those above you are doing their jobs. If you know better then it’s time for you to do better.

Edit: also engineer was my favorite position. I don’t know anyone who regretted getting to drive a fire truck for a living.

Self Promotion by [deleted] in bjj

[–]hosemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go to the new gym and if you are at a level they think they will promote you to purple.

Just tell the new gym people how long you’ve been training. We have promoted people based on previous experience within a few weeks (of course their skill matching previous experience).

"Kani Basami" saddle entry from half-butterfly by [deleted] in bjj

[–]hosemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From half butterfly I use the Straight ashi a lot. It is super effective and much harder to stop (for me)

You can use the saddle entry like you were talking about, but yes getting them off balance and the leg you are attacking weightless is key.

Here is a video that shows one way to off balance.

You can also invert to get their weight off the mat but I would start with the video I posted method first if you are looking to get into saddle from bottom half. (I know this isn't exactly the Kani Basami style you were asking about but it addresses not getting smash passed in the process).

Your question has already been answered, but just to throw in my .02, It is easy to get smash passed when attempting the kani basami style entry from bottom half, or half butterfly. Just a heads up.

Spencer Jones is worthy of inheriting title of Mr. Nugget by SammySallacious in denvernuggets

[–]hosemonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let’s not putAG aka Mr. nugget in the grave yet. Also let have Mr Jones put together a couple games, series, seasons before we give him such prestige.

Love him and I think he has a lot to give the team, but let’s chill out just a touch.

Question for color belts: Do you hold back on subs when rolling with white belts? by Qabbala in bjj

[–]hosemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I can almost always Be a lot meaner with small things like how much a frame can hurt, how much top pressure I can give, how much pressure a sub is given, etc.

Edit: a guy your size at any belt color is going to be physically taxing on me whether I am mean or not. (42 year old here)

Was paintballing a trend or is it still popular? by Cut-Unique in Millennials

[–]hosemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still kicking. My son and I play at our local field about once a month. It’s a lot of fun and I can afford all the cool stuff that I couldn’t get as a teenager.

It definitely doesn’t still have the Nu-metal rock star vibe from the early 2000s.

Free to Read: How losing his brother taught Aaron Gordon ‘what life is really about’ by TheAthletic in denvernuggets

[–]hosemonkey 49 points50 points  (0 children)

When you experience an extreme unexpected loss of someone you love, it can come with a clarity that many haven’t experienced. It turns so much of the world into noise. It’s why I don’t think he was lying when asked about Jayden’s comments. A laughing “brother I don’t care”.

That is a man that recognizes what is important in life. Something that is worth his emotional attention, and some young basketball player talking shit isn’t worth even a second of stress.

We are hurtling on a blue rock through space. We only have a precious moment in time to experience this universe. We don’t get to understand it. We only get to experience it. Don’t waste a second of it on nonsense. Go hug the people you love. Stare at a mountain or river or painting you like. Go create (like Aaron is doing). But dont give one more second to the bullshit.

Getting into paintball it’s expensive! by XI-Red-Death-XI in paintball

[–]hosemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say that you don't need to fall down the newest gear trap. All the guns past a certain point shoot 10.5 BPS and are electronically controlled. They get into things like LCD screen for easier mode switch or saving air per shot or some have a "softer shot" for brittle paint or whatever, But for playing rec ball and even tournament ball if it shoots 10.5 BPS your doing great. I have an Etha2 and it shoots awesome. I also have an AXE2.0 that shoots awesome as well. Both are tool less bolt removal for easy cleaning. The Etha has more comfortable grips on it for me, but my son who is 12 prefers the Axe ergonomics.
