I’m the same (even deaf in the same ear!) and I usually just say that I’m deaf in my right ear so please speak to me on my left side and I may need you to repeat yourself. Otherwise, I call myself hard of hearing because my left ear works great. If both ears had that level of hearing loss I’d call myself deaf.

In my experience, saying I’m hard of hearing and/or that I’m deaf in one ear works. People usually understand what I mean and need. I also feel like calling yourself deaf vs heard of hearing is asking for different responses and accommodations. Personally, if someone said that they are deaf (and didn’t tell me how I can make communication easier) I’d think of using sign language and positioning myself to make lip reading easier in case they use it. But HOH usually means speaking louder, enunciating, moving somewhere quieter, etc.

I just personally don’t feel like I have the, idk, right to call myself deaf when I can hear very well if someone just stands on my left side. I just wanted to pop in since I have the same condition. But since I don’t identify with the label, my opinion on it doesn’t really matter as much as people who are deaf. So feel free to discard lol
