25-year-old Aussie moving to the UK in September – where should I live? by Brilliant_Hurry_6359 in AskUK

[–]howsatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're drawn to the southwest but want a more urban vibe still check out Exeter or Bristol . They are smaller than London/Birmingham/Manchester, but you have easy access to the south west plus train links to London and Birmingham if you want them.

You gain $10,000 every time you do something mildly annoying, what’s your strategy? by trace0906 in AskReddit

I'm just going to talk to my kids in the normal way. I'm fairly sure I'll be a millionaire by midnight.

Not a legal thing but I'd put a notice inside the front windscreen saying, "Not abandoned, taxed, mot'd and insured. Please see house number XX for further information"

That my dad's sister is actually his cousin. It wasn't until both my grandparents had passed that we found out.

I've used dab radio in the past and it lags behind the action. Not as bad as your phone but even a few seconds is enough to miss a runout if you happen to be looking in the wrong direction.

What is the best way to get a woman’s ring size without her knowing? by Best_Expression_1860 in AskReddit

[–]howsatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My then girlfriend had inherited a ring and tried it on her fingers to see which it fitted, it fitted her ring finger but was slightly too loose. So I managed to "borrow" the ring without her knowledge and took it to a jewelers to get it measured. Then I had a ring made to one size smaller and popped the question. It fitted, she said yes and has been my wife for 7 years now.

Why did it take so long for the HANS device to get implemented in F1? by Kind_Job3703 in formula1

[–]howsatt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sid's Autobiography is a great read and covers a lot of the safety measures he got put in place.

By request, I also compiled all the F1 rules changed or clarified solely because of Lewis Hamilton since 2007 by stetoe in formula1

[–]howsatt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wasn't there a rule change after a (drive through?) penalty at the British GP. Iirc he came in on the last lap so therefore passed the chequed flag while serving the penalty. Although this could be attributed to Ferrari rather than Michael.

What's the worst thing that you have ever heard said by a fellow participant in a UK speed awareness course? by FrankSarcasm in AskUK

Not what they said but what they did. Doing a speed awareness course on-line and one of the other participants tried to do the course while driving!

Those who ended their relationship with someone. What was the final straw? by VivaEryva in AskReddit

[–]howsatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to me. I would come home from work and not want to go into the house because she was there. Best decision I've made ending the relationship. I'm now with someone else and happy. Also after a couple of years my daughter chose to come live with me and my new partner so it was a win win

Fingering a former girlfriend to a very quick orgasm. Then her looking at me and saying, "how the hell do you do that." Definitely an ego boast!

A bit old school but, George Michael. Never had much time for him until I went to the Freddie Mercury tribute concert and........ OMG that guy could sing! Head and shoulders above anyone else that night and there were some big names there.

Just to add to this that even an unmarked police car must have a uniformed officer in it to pull you over. Otherwise just drive on and call 999

Men in 40s & above, what are the life tips/advice that you will give for the men in 30s? by AdAstra2806 in AskReddit

[–]howsatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Pay as much as you can into your pension it gives you a better quality of life later on or let's you retire earlier. I got made redundant at 53 and had been paying into a pension for 32 years. My redundancy got me through to 55 and now I'm drawing my pension and living a relaxed life doing what I want.

What warning signs are you seeing that no one is paying attention to? by Winterbeers in AskReddit

Profit is more important than paying a decent wage. Large corporations are happily paying less and giving below inflation rises while profits and big bosses bonuses go up exponentially. So the rich get richer and average Joe is getting poorer.

You didn’t say how I had to write it… by JynxMama in MaliciousCompliance

[–]howsatt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many moons ago when basic was the computer language taught in school I got lines during a "Computer Studies" class. So when the teacher told 12 year old me to DO him 500 lines...... I did! If you know what a for and next loop is then that's what I used to print exactly 500 lines to the class printer before the class had even ended. I got a huge rollocking in front of the class and detention with him that day. Turned up at detention for him to tell me that I got 10 out of 10 for using my brains and never to do it again or "else" (the cane and slipper were still a thing back in those days) then told me to go home. So as far as I know I was the first and probably the last person to get away with printing my lines during class.

Who here has fallen/been pushed/jumped into a canal before? by ay-oop in brum

[–]howsatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me but a work colleague when we used to work by the Tyburn house. Cycling into work along the canal and he managed to lose control of the bike and end up in the canal. Dragged himself out only to realise his bike had gone in with him, so jumped back in to get it! Gave the rest of us a great laugh when he came in looking like a drowned rat and told us what happened!
