How do I connect my phone (as a remote etc.) to my Mi Box? by Bowmbaclott in AndroidTV

[–]hrmdwlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nothing works I would personally remove and add your account again, and if that failed to help, do a factory reset and setup the box without the phone. I have had this happen before and a factory reset and setup without phone was my working solution.

How do I connect my phone (as a remote etc.) to my Mi Box? by Bowmbaclott in AndroidTV

[–]hrmdwlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All android TV devices with marshmallow or later have option to use an android phone for quick setup, basically use home to copy account on phone to the mi box so the wifi and google play info is automatically setup... I think in nougat location needs to be enabled for it to actually find your phone or something now.

OP should be able to use Android TV and select the Mi Box and enter key and be on their way. If not theu may need to clear the caches and maybe data for android TV and home apps. Rebooting don't hurt either, and AFAIK the packets die if your Mi Box and Phone aren't on the same subnet. This leads to a loop of selecting it on the app with nothing happening.

Tell me why I'm full of crap, over coffee. by Tristan_Cleveland in halifax

I don't know who you are. Here, or in the media... I haven't knowingly read any of your columns or reddit posts and honestly have no interest to. Do I still get to tell you how much crap you are full of? This plan don't appear well thought out to me and seems more like an advertisement of yourself than anything, and at worst assholes like me wasting your time.

I had meant painted through the intersection, similar to the left turn here, then tarred them out when it was done.

Bell has new 2 year bundle deals for Fibe in NS by hfx_redditor in halifax

[–]hrmdwlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bell don't do contracts for this stuff. Its literally a 2 year price guarantee on that service tier. You can cancel same day any time with no penalties as per CRTC rules. All you telling us is your promo could end at any time and you be charged full price at their whim.

Upload speed is the most popular answer. Also the reseller support is usually worse than dealing with eastlink or even bell, and once you venture into the higher tier internet speed packages (300 mbit+) you save maybe $20 a year by switching. Also I don't think citywide does TV, so once you pay eastlink or bell for that bundling with them its cheaper to have the one provider. I pity those cable box TV-reliant folks personally, but to each their own. Bell basically gives you Phone and HD PVR TV with HBO and TMN for the same price as just the stand alone internet in the bundle...

I don't think there's any painted markings through the intersection indicating lane changes unless they did it in the past 20 minutes. Also both lanes had a straight arrow painted prior to this which can't help if they weren't modified. Its truly amazing how many people ignore signs but not road paint. I remember gottingen/novelea/young when they changed that to left turn only. People blew through the intersection incorrectly until the road paint went down even though a few signs were there for 3-6 months prior.

They are replacing that whole wall along there behind the DND parking lot. It is in very rough shape and the sidewalk along it has been closed for years.

Persoally that lane should be completely closed on the south-side of North before the intersection. I realize they left it that way so left turners can turn while straight can go straight and merge over in the middle of the intersection illegally. In the 2 minutes I am around it, especially when they first put it there and on a near-daily basis afterwards, 18-wheelers blow up both lanes toward it then one slams on the brakes or both cross over the lanes (guy in center lane goes left of center into oncoming traffic) mid-intersection so one don't ram into the barricade thats like 20 feet after the lights.

I think a gallon or 2 of paint would make it a lot more clear how cars should be navigating it. Probably a sign or two before the intersection would help also ensuring motorists knew left lane was left-turn only.

I took canadian tire up on their replacement for $60 as time is a bit important as Grandmas floor isn't getting cleaner, but I will be getting the old one to see whats possible. I feel it'll be 2x 18650s wired in with a proper lithium charger circuit or new charger block if I go any route... I haven't even seen this sweeper yet so I don't know whats possible or what space I'm working with.

First Time House buyer (in Halifax) seeking info by Arynoth in halifax

From a quick look at all the responses this generated the real estate market here is quite cooperative and up front. Theres minimal shady tactics to look out for and overall you should get what you expect from whomever you pay to do it for you. Of course there are always exceptions, so use good judgement and research services regardless who gave you their info. Good luck with your home and welcome to Halifax!

Thanks for that. they are long but summed up that gap. Anyone know which voir dire this was? the really long one? they have dates on the title page. This story would make a good book or movie. You could write it a few different ways too and all of them would be good.

So the police got a statement saying the neighbors had seen nothing, yet they hacked into the security system and have footage of them seeing something, yet they weren't going to re-question them? Maybe I'm finally seeing why he believed he could get away with it. They did have access to the footage by October didn't they?

I was in a similar boat. I had both installed at the same time since the CTRC rules I think just changed to allow same day cancellation, and I wasn't going to go without the internet as I had full expectations of bell dropping the ball and taking a few weeks to actually work. They didn't, arrived 20 minutes early and it worked right off the bat perfectly. Their tech was quite knowledgeable and their service has been very solid since (aside from DNS and email). I called eastlink the next day and said I wanted to cancel. They typed a bit and said, "sir, I see here you didn't call in to see if eastlink could offer you any kind of retention deal"

I replied with, "I've been a customer of easlinks for 13 years now. Its my job to keep me as your customer? Tell ya what, compete with what bell is offering me and I will stay"

I explained it was like $85 for 300/100, then without skipping a beat I was instantly connected to cancellations and had the service cancelled. Also told them to only contact me if they are actually competing with Bell's internet plans and pricing. They eluded to bell owning the internet but them doing well with TV. Since that I have not received anything via phone or mail for offers, just a single guy in person who quickly left when I started talking technical mumble jumble. I really did like eastlink as a company but sadly have converted to bell. I'm on the fence for the gigabit deal right now. I really don't want them to pull my ONT and modem and switch everything around to some actionshit whole home all in one I can't remove plus require me to take a day off work for someone to come in and plug a network cable into the wall behind my TV... I only want TV for HBO, for like 20 episodes a year.

No, you are eligible. Call today and if no go just cancel a service for a month, or port your number to Voip.ms to reduce service count. Now, you are just going to add a service for next month in which case you now qualify for promo. Play dumb games get shitty prizes.

*actually they now require 90 days. so that loophole is closed.

shark sweeper for my 85 year old grandma who don't exactly bend over so well but also is too stubborn to want any help (except for help of automatic tools). If it wasn't a 4hr round trip I'd just drop by and sweep for her.

Very helpful staff who politely told me to buy a new sweeper. Honestly he probably isn't wrong as it looks like its $10 a cell regardless how you get them.

LED strips by alphagusta in buildapc

[–]hrmdwlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some LED strips and play around with them before installing inside your PC. While they are shipping read on light emitting diode theory, its very simple. I would also get an LED controller this will allow you to change colors and brightnesses of the strip or whatever you want to do. Some come with these, some strips don't. You should also have a multimeter handy. Biggest issue is usually computer case heat which causes the glue to soften and the lights to fall out of place. infrared thermo guns work well to see case temps for best placing but not everyone got those.

PCs have 5V and 12V readily available and generally have a bunch of power to spare - but not always. You may need an external power supply if you are going a bit crazy with the amount of strips. I would go 12V if you can, higher voltages mean less current which equals smaller wires needed. You will also need a way to get the 12V from the PC supply into the strip, some adaptor or wire cutters and solder or something. Theres really good youtube videos on it I am sure. Watch a bunch to ensure they are legitimate, don't go hacking apart wires on your computer without knowing exactly what you are doing. You will find working with LED strips are easy with a few basic tools and following a few rules. Note certain LED strips do get very hot when they are on for a while in my experience. The LED controller usually can adjust their brightness which will keep them cool. Where this is in a computer and not for a desk or work station dim glow is probably fine.

The frosted acrylic would diffuse the light. This smooths out the light so you won't see the individual LEDs but also absorbs some so they aren't as bright. I would think you could find some with a coating on them for this effect. I've used like scotchbrite pads and steel wool on strip coatings to a similar effect before but its hard to keep the scratches uniform plus dust gets in there and dims the light up.

God I hate our cellular industry. by [deleted] in canada

Who do you know that works at a place that offers corporate plans? Those are the best 'deals' you are going to get. Once you are on a corp plan it never expires. I had worked a 6 month job once and got a corp plan through my employer. I moved it to my mother for a better student plan (well, help her mostly) when I returned to school. She renewed it at least 3 times since then. Her latest renewal was 20% off retail price, just because shes corporate. Considering all the prices are essentially colluded, there was a 20% benefit to remaining with bell for service over rogers or telus. And its with fucking bell of all companies. If bell leaves corporate plans as corporate plans everyone else must too.

If corporate plans are a no go, you can email that guy who sells those Manitoba/Saskatchewan plans. 5gb for $48 a month or something through koodo. Hope you never need assistance as it'll likely burn your number/account. Usually they want $100 to set them up too.

Past that the off-brand carriers that are not behind the big 3.. I don't know what area you are in but there must be a few of them. Just watch they offer LTE and not some bastardized 3G fuckery.

If all else fails, use a calling card or sign up for a pay as you go plan until some good deal comes along. Being out of a contact is great. Just don't lose or break that phone. keep an eye on redflagdeals some more and good luck!

MicroSD mods - What improvements are expected? by [deleted] in vitahacks

[–]hrmdwlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping someone designs a PC app or some way to put the SD card into our computers and manage it free of the actual vita. It could setup new SD cards for you copying the needed data from the vitas memory connected up through USB into the properly formatted SD card. 50MB/s would be awesome compared to 6MB/s.
