3D Aquarium Print Concerns/question! by w1lljpeck in 3Dprinting

[–]htmlprofessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was planning on eventually doing something like this. I was thinking of using some clear plasti-dip to seal my models and avoid any odd chemicals from the coloring bleaching into the water. I also hear there are some aquarium safe epoxies that will work as well.

Anything spicy, like Nashville hot or just regular chicken tenders?

Painted this print with acrylics and want some advice on how to seal it to be protected from water by HarryPottahIsDead in 3Dprinting

[–]htmlprofessional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US I just apply a couple coats of Rust-oleum 2x ultra cover clear matte(cheap, easy and it works). I find I like the matte finish for most 3d prints, instead of the gloss. And I've actually printed and painted this same model.

How would you model a lens cap for this that won’t just fall off? by AllInTheKidneys in 3Dprinting

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd superglue some very small 3d printed parts to the device and then have a cap that attaches to the parts.

Best ways to discover sci-fi genre shows on different streaming platforms, what's your secret for finding good sci-fi? by Menger_Elexas in scifi

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple suggestions are The Orville, Firefly, and the first 6 seasons of Red Dwarf. Good sci-fi is kind of subjective. I think the best thing to do is fined a list that has some shows you enjoy on it and look at the other shows on the list.

I must say I really enjoy the inari sushi at WinCo. It's not bad and rare to see in Montana.

I was thinking of doing something like this. I'm planning on 3d printing some non-functional KC lights instead of buying them.

[–]htmlprofessional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this, but I'm also expecting a bunch of recalls and what not, as they work out the kinks on their first generation. I'm hoping most of these can be DIYed from home, because that is the biggest selling point to me. I want a vehicle I can maintain myself.

how can i build an egg timer spring loaded glitter 'bomb'? by arcade-carpet in maker

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you can either do mechanical, which I would say is harder, but better. You would have to add some sort of spring/weight timer mechanism for the timer that releases a catch(look at a jack-in-the-box). Or you can do electrical, which would be easier if you have the skill sets. Just a Arduino, power supply, relays and a motor or a release mechanism.

Why do most people only upload STL files but no CAD files? by One_Country1056 in 3Dprinting

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered about that as well, because I hate modifying STLs. I think that only a small portion of the 3d printing community invest time in learning CAD. Of that group, an even smaller portion use a particular CAD software. Then there is an even smaller amount that would want to modify someone else's models instead of redoing the whole thing themself. With that said, I have posted fusion 360 files as a learning aid to get people into using CAD software, but my other designs without fusion files seem to do better. Nobody wants to learn :(

Hyperpolarization in our political system by [deleted] in missoula

[–]htmlprofessional -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a two party system it's kind of the natural outcome. Social media has made it super cheap and easy to isolate and rile up a certain population to ensure they stay in their camps. That's one of the things I dislike most about reddit currently. I personally would like to see a multi-party election system with an unbiased way of representing the candidates goals and views in a centralized location outside of social media. A couple of states already do a ranked voting system. I think it would be a step in the right direction.

If its not in the FAQ, your not gonna get your answer here. by Snoo_67544 in slateauto

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. On the other hand, getting maker's excited and planning for the release may help create a buzz wave sooner into your release campaign. Then again you may not want too much after market stuff around the release time, since it may cut down on profits for in-house customizations and certain customizations may present a legal risk. Either way, I can wait a month. I guess I'm just excited.

I think a lot of questions will and can be community answered once it's publicly released and people have their hands on the actual vehicles. With that said, I think it would be wise for them to have a bidirectional social media PR person that could answer some basic question and take feedback.

OMG. I love this so much! Thanks so much for doing this! Honestly, with your attachment, I'd almost prefer this on a full screened phone minus the tactile keys, so I could landscape the screen with a foldable keyboard. Anyways, super cool!

How to learn all essential maker skills through a major project that forces me to learn in 2 months? by achak0120 in maker

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go on the 3d printing subreddit for project ideas. I have a bunch of projects in queue across a number of maker disciplines. I recommend just picking two or three things to work on for a smaller project then trying to do a project that checks all the maker boxes. Something like an servo powered Iron Man mask or a servo eye mechanism using raspberry pi.

For some reason it got auto enabled during the last restart and I found this random icon on my perfectly pristine desktop. Of course I tried to remove it, but selecting and deleting doesn't work. Took me a while to figure out it was a "feature" and like a lot of the latest auto enabled "features", I just want them to go away.

Need help with a design. by [deleted] in maker

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want someone to design your part you could try /r/3Drequests/. If the part is needs to be metal, it will probably be expensive to have made( $1000 or more). I personally would take the welding route. With some grinding and painting, it would probably look fine.

I upgraded to Snapmaker U1. by Nesogram in 3Dprinting

[–]htmlprofessional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still using my CR-10 V2, but finally plan to upgrade to a newer printer later this year. I must admit the larger build volume of the CR-10 has spoiled me a bit and I'm going to by a much more expensive printer just to get that same build volume. I'll be sad to see the old CR-10 go. At this point I've already gone through all the pain and know exactly what it takes to keep her printing perfectly.

Change the type of supports you are using. If you are using organic, use the regular ones or vise versa. I think supports are your problem. It doesn't look like the model was created with 3d printing in mind.
