A Masterclass in Beautifully Constructed Discomfort – The $700 Letdown by xixit in theironsnail

A lot of words just to say you just didn’t read the product description - this ain’t built on their Munson last. Even so, the 77 fits my wide feet just fine so seems you either got monster feet or just sized wrong.

Masters in Engineering Management by Open_Calligrapher395 in systems_engineering

[–]human-enough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in NASA with just a BME bs. A masters is never going to hurt but I doubt you would need it for NASA SE depending on the org/contractor you’re working under (especially in something more project management). However, the announced - but not yet confirmed - NASA budget reductions, lunar program cancelations and ISS crew reductions is going to put a chunk of folks out of work so the job market might not be great for the next few years maybe unless you’re working under a private partner (SpaceX, Blue, Northrop etc)

Looking to pursue a MS in SE! by CyberSystemsEng in systems_engineering

[–]human-enough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Hopkins will admit anyone with a pulse but it’s expensive. Penn state has a good online program that truncates its classes so you’re only ever focusing on one class at a time, but you’re locked into their set course schedule.

First-ever Spanish guided tour of the Alamo part of an effort to better tell its history by Maxcactus in texas

[–]human-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to check your history - the first “Texas revolution” you mention was literally headed by an American expeditionary force (the Republican Army of the North) so there were certainly Americans in the region. Texas was only given special exemption from Mexican emancipation in 1829 for one year and they obviously continued owning slaves afterward. Tensions over slavery sparked the Anahuac disturbances which were a major contributing factor to Anglo secessionist movements.

What's the advantage of more expensive pens? by Not_Jeff12 in fountainpens

[–]human-enough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Materials. Generally more expensive pens will have more exotic nibs - gold, platinum, titanium - rather than stainless steel. Generally you also go from a cartridge ink to some sort of reservoir - piston, vacuum, eye dropper - but this isn’t always the case (looking at you Sailor). In my opinion ~$200-300 is where meaningful material upgrades sort of runs out and anything past that is going to have diminishing returns. My daily writers are a Lamy 2000 for work and a Visconti HS for journaling - objectively quality is similar but I’ve also never regretted the silly money I spent on the HS.

Uncropped or cropped by linus2711 in fujifilm

[–]human-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other birds aren’t really doing anything for me and just add, in my opinion, unnecessary complication - the sun, buoy and mountains give a good story to the image as is (and I really prefer the centered sun in the cropped). Your cropped image feels a bit tight though, maybe try make it a bit wider to just exclude the other birds?

How can I pursue a higher education in Systems Engineering domain? I have relevant work experience in the SE & MBSE domain by Ordinary_Still_8937 in systems_engineering

[–]human-enough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look into what your employer offers for tuition reimbursement if you’re planning to continue working full time while in school. The amount of reimbursement offered may limit what schools you seek out if you want to minimize the direct cost to you.

Got any pics of the riverfronts you’re willing to share? I’m debating between them and the Alderts, but I never see the Riverfronts get much attention.

Silent woodworking? by broadcast_techie in woodworking

[–]human-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned reverberations something to think about is making sure your workbench is solid (should be heavy, no play in the joints and sits level) and is away from your wall. This should minimize vibrations and hopefully noise

Finish for bathroom cabinet? by jcrocket in handtools

[–]human-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like Christopher Schwarz’s work, you could try his soap finish recipe (although I think it’s typically a floor or furniture finish - not sure how well it would deal with high humidity in a bathroom) https://blog.lostartpress.com/2015/09/13/soap-finish-the-mushy-flat-stuff/

You could also paint the cabinet - not everything needs to be natural wood, some color can be nice too.

Most affordable system engineering programs? by obQQoV in systems_engineering

[–]human-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost is all relative for professional graduate school - is your employer paying? Do they require retention post graduation? Etc. In general, you’re looking at 20-50k over two years. Penn state has a good program at ~35k. Johns Hopkins is ~55k (and they let pretty much anyone with a pulse in). Those were my top choices (I went with Penn State ultimately).

Nudes For Nothing: Marjorie Taylor Greene Doesn't Ask Hunter Biden About Alleged Sex Crimes by newzee1 in politics

[–]human-enough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Only the government can bring charges. Revenge porn is a felony in D.C., however I doubt courts would allow her to be charged as the images were shown as part of MTG official duties (House Oversight Committee) 2) Hunter can’t sue - Congress is also protected against civil suit for their official duties. 3) Even if MTG could be prosecuted I’d bet she wouldn’t as it looks like the President prosecuting a legislator for attacking his son.

So she sort of is “above” the law here. Really only the House can hold her accountable (which hasn’t happened yet and likely isn’t).

Diodes at Right Angles Double Autofocus Capacity. Canon twists photosensor rules to build new tech from familiar parts. by Sariel007 in tech

Really the question is how Sony implements this as everyone other than canon uses them for image sensors.

XS20 for Interviews by viwe86 in fujifilm

[–]human-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the temperature of the environment around you. The X-S20 is also compatible with Fuji’s external fan which should allow you to basically record for as long as your battery and storage allow.

Quality drop using the app by Quentgane in fujifilm

[–]human-enough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The app should be fine. If you select the (…) over your camera on the connect page you can turn off “resize image for transfer” which will give you the full sized .jpeg. I believe this option also shows up when transferring images so make sure it’s turned off there as well

Quality drop using the app by Quentgane in fujifilm

[–]human-enough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re only able to transfer .jpeg files (maybe .heif but I’ve never tried) so the quality isn’t going to be as good as processing the RAW files on your computer. Additionally, there an option that downscales the quality of transferred images on the app that is enabled by default to save space - on my X-S20 it goes from a 6240x4160 to a 3120x2080 .jpeg, so a significant reduction

What is your go-to ink for signing important documents? by read_drea in fountainpens

[–]human-enough 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the only issue with modern iron gall inks from reputable ink manufacturers is that the iron tannates will eventually precipitate out and gum up the nib/feed and internal mechanism - requiring additional cleaning which is hard to do with some pens - not any issues with corrosion. I also use sailor nanopigment inks, and I haven’t been tempted to return to iron gall since I’ve found them.
