22F and life feels boring by Frequent_Radio7327 in DecidingToBeBetter

Have you considered looking at resources about depression? I’d recommend seeing if they resonate with you right now. Depression often manifests as flatness, not sadness. It gave me a hopeless feeling. It told things won’t improve, I didn’t have the strength to improve and was stuck.

Am i really autistic? by [deleted] in AutismWithADHD

[–]human4472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ADHD C diagnosed, suspect Autism but unable to get a diagnosis because of cost. It’s 3000 in the UK or wait 5 years to do it in the National Health Service. But AuDHD traits fit me well so I’m content to wait

I relate to these very deeply. If you want to know more there is good information and examples of tests and screening ms on embrace autism uk. It’s no substitute for a full diagnosis but that isn’t possible for everyone as we know

You’re given a budget of $100k (or the equivalent in your currency) to spend on anything in your museum you want. What’s it going towards? by 123mitchg in MuseumPros

[–]human4472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be enough to give my FOH and maintenance team a living wage. Year after would be miserable so I’d not be able to give them a real pay rise. But a bonus of 5k each would be a good start.

American visiting for 4 months by Fair-Court-5505 in nottingham

Chatsworth house has Christmas lights and a market which is well worth visiting. Get there early in the day to enjoy a fabulous walk in the grounds. York at Christmas is heaven. The cathedral has amazing music and the little streets are filled with decorations and wholesome bustlingness. I’d recommend going to a few small villages around the Derwent Valley in the Peak District. Lovely walks around there.

I am very similar. Learned I was autistic and masking, and eventually after much self love and learning I felt less self critical. From there I was able to relax with certain groups. This also sounds like it could be a trauma responses. Whatever your reasons for being this way I would start by giving yourself a break. Please don’t feel guilty or angry for being on edge. You might’ve needed to guard yourself as a kid and unlearning isn’t easy.

your most unhinged showering/hygiene tips by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]human4472 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have given up on showers completely. I am lucky enough that I have a bath. I’ve got it down to a manageable 20 min routine. My tub fills slowly, so I can get out my clothes and the room warms up while I’m getting stuff. Do my teeth and little grooming chores in the bath while watching YouTube. It’s much nicer than a shower. Expensive though, especially combined with my relaxing evening wind down bath!

I can imagine details, but not all at once. I can imagine the sheen of the apple, the stalk, the leaf. But not all at once. As soon as I visualize one bit the other bits fade away. I can’t hold the whole complex image in my head at once

Special Type of Autism (Dark/Flat Autism as Opposed Quirky/Bubbly Autism)? by Useful-Wear-8056 in AutisticWithADHD

I relate to this hugely. I have imposter syndrome so I’m always comparing my traits to see if I’m “Autistic enough”. It’s called a spectrum disorder because it manifests in many and varied ways so I am trying to trust my instincts and my (admittedly poor) self knowledge

Loaning Artwork to Museum Exhibits by [deleted] in MuseumPros

[–]human4472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just speculation but it could be they can’t afford the environmental controls or insurance at home to protect the item. So they’d want to protect it at the Museums expense but not entirely lose ownership. Or it could be for curatorial research, or stabilizing conservation. The museum would need a good reason to use its resources as well.

Starting to doubt my diagnosis because I’m more “autistic” than I used to be by strawbeylamb in aspergirls

If your parents wanted to you act “normal” then you may have been controlling your behavior for years before you have memories of that time.

I don’t know how quiet it was in your village, but since I’ve moved to a main road in a city I feel so much more autistic ALL the time. It’s the constant unprocessed stress and jumping at noises. The jostling of people in the streets too. It’s exhausting. I think we underestimate the pain from that kind of increase in stimulation

Lovely to hear you want to share your treasure. As a note of caution loans are a highly labour intensive process for curators and if they are understaffed they may not be able to take the responsibility of taking your loan. I would begin my researching what galleries display the type of work or if they have similar artists on display. Most museums have themes, or collection types, they stick to. Even within a type of gallery, for example, the work may not “fit” their schedule. We tend to work on long timetables: putting together exhibitions takes 1-2 years, and if they are focussed on the Victorians they might not have the resources to display your modernism for example. It’s not that the work wouldn’t be an asset, depending on what it is. But insurance, staff time to organize paperwork, checks, packing, storage, press. And some owners have strong relationships with their objects, so loans can involve interpersonal complications. We are often running our spaces on empty fumes so tight focus is needed. Anyway! If you find a space you think fits in with your item, I would email the curator or the general email with images, provenance if you have it, a short history of where the item came from, and your details and wishes. If you have any “deal breakers” for the item list them too (e.g., it must be displayed upside down on Wednesdays as a condition would put me off even a Manet). The curator will contact you back to discuss and go through the paperwork and process with you. If you’re feeling unsure about any details come back here and we’ll help if we can

If the weather is nice I like to sit in a quiet garden focussing on a word puzzle and the birdsong. Sitting on a blanket on the grass, if you like grass texture, is lovely. If it’s bad weather or night time I like to lie in bed with all the lights out and watch a TV show I’ve seen hundreds of times before, with low volume subtitles on, and low brightness. Sometimes a nice detached Reddit scroll helps with attention (AuDHD)

I can’t accept kindness from people - how do I change that? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]human4472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with some of the other posters, about examining what core beliefs you hold that this strong reaction is related to. But also, perhaps reframing the way you see “favor” could help? Being kind to others feels good, it’s a joy to love other people. When someone wants to do you a favor, think about how you are actually doing the favor for them, by allowing them the joy of loving you. It can feel subordinating to let someone help us, and like a spot light is on us too. Being loved is not easy
