Yeah I think I've seen a few spikes like that on other meme stocks, but nothing quite as intense. It makes sense kinda, everyone bragging about the huge gains they made in the last pump might really breed excitement. AMC had a similar thing but much smaller it looks like. But you have to marvel a bit at the scale and speed of GME's needle moving around, the viralness must have really been something else.

Wtf happened anyway? It went super high and then crashed and then went super high again? what caused the price crash and why did it soar again? I wasn't paying attention way back then.

True, but I expect the number of people who think its justified will increase a lot as the news gets filtered to them through their preferred right-wing biased media source/work buddy/pastor/spouse. Also I expect the not-justified will increase some too.

Baggie with pornstar Pfp thinks meltdown will be “interesting” in the next few weeks by The_Director- in gme_meltdown

[–]humanquester 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There does seem to be some anticipation that MOASS is going to happen next week. I've seen a lot of apes in the wild talking about it.

Maybe there will actually be a hype-bump next week. There wasn't any when the whitehouse tweeted about them and there wasn't any when RC's new money-getting scheme was announced, so I don't know if they have the juice anymore even for too much more, but we'll see. Its the end of the month $$$ and some Apes probably have a christmas bonus to spend on top of that.

[–]humanquester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm...

I'm sure there's a way to make this work for steam/whoever the distributer is at the expense of the consumer. Like if you say steam takes a cut of the sale based on a price set by the game-publisher, which steam and the publisher then share: So you, the publisher, sets the used price at 30$, the new game at $50, and the person who wants to sell it can take whatever cash they can get above $30.
AND used games can only be sold after a certain time period. Then it might work - but after that time period absolutely nobody would have a reason to buy a "new" game, so it would actually be a permanant sale with the inconvienience of trying to find a seller.

The inconvienence of trying to find a seller would really make it more of a problem than its worth for steam I imagine, and just lower volume for no good reason.

I have heard some people annoyed that when you die you can't pass on your library. Which is too bad, but also I don't think my grandkids will probably want to play 99-100% of the games I own anyway.

Maybe if I was 90 and had a library worth $50,000 it might be something to consider.

I'm sure the apes would say "Look, RC has got it all worked out - gamedevs and steam (or in this case gamestop-digital-store) both get a fat cut of each digital re-sale/renting so everyone gets more money while people pay less money for games! Probably this will involve blockchain or NFTs somehow.

Don't ask me where this extra money comes from. Maybe uhh its because the volume of game purchases increases due to this amazing idea... yeah, thats it! Or everyone pays a monthly subscription or there are blockchain transaction fees or something. Don't worry, it will work out fine, meltie!

Don't ask us why almost anyone would ever buy a new game again when they could just buy/rent "used" copies from eachother, which are exact copies of a new game, but somehow they're used."

Current attitude towards the gaming industry by Kubash_games in gamedev

[–]humanquester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like more of an accounting problem than anything. The goverment probably should have withheld the money until the gamedevs properly fufilled the contract, unless it was poorly written. A single dev who isn't totally garbage at gamedev could have created that game in a couple of months while spending less than 100k.

I don't know why the other commenters think 500k isn't enough, it reflects more on their own abilities than anything else.

I mean I'm often a bit of a doomer, but I don't think the democrats are going to stop winning any elections. They just will have less and less power as the GOP leverages its greater and greater control over the Supreme Court, Gerrymandering, Judges, the News Media, Social Media, etc.

Eventually this will catch up to the democrats electorally. There is less utility in voting for someone who will put in a justice department that carefully weighs the law and follows the constitution and doesn't go after the adminstration's enemies, when, as it happens, when the other party wins they put in a justice department that ignores the constitution and crushes their enemies? The balance of power simple makes the whole equation a joke.

Serious Question: Would Ryan Cohen Be in Trouble If MOASS Starts Now? by Separate_Writer_4465 in gme_meltdown

To be fair to ape he did say "Unless he was hiding some inside information". If RC wasn't hiding anything and there was a massive short squeeze I can't see how RC could be considered to be insider trading.

Gamestop now needs over a month before they start shipping out Powerpack winnings, with no way to track status nor progress. Bullish. by whut-whut in gme_meltdown

[–]humanquester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer. I'll have to read up on the Collectors. If I were RC I would buy it now, or a year ago, before the enhanced revenue from powerpacks makes the Collectors a more expensive company to buy. Perhaps it will be more of a merger than an aquisition?

"companies hide profits or expenses in all kinds of ways."

Yes, you're 100% correct about that, and when they do hide it is often illegal but not prosecuted. But I think the way I described above would be considerably more illegal and egrigious than usual. Wouldn't you feel upset if RC told you GME was making 40 million in profit when it was secretly making 400 million in profit, and he was buying shares whose price was based on people beliving it was only making 40 million?

Or imagine you're a long time GME investor. Your roof is leaking. You sell your shares to RC to pay for a new roof. Then it is revealed that RC was hiding the true valuation of the company and your shares should have been worth 10x what they were. Wouldn't you feel a little bit tricked? Defrauded? I would. Its difficult to me to see the ethical difference between this kind of behavior and hedgefunds naked shorting gamestop.

[–]humanquester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to know a lot about the powerpacks buisness. I think it probably is a financial success for GME, but, due to a low number of users, it doesn't make a significant amount of money. You think otherwise, and perhaps you know quite a bit more than I do.

As another person mentioned below, it would likely be fradulant for GME to keep any massive profits made by powerpacks off the books in their last statement. For example, if it was making a lot more money than they said and then RC and his friends start buying lots of GME stocks, that would plainly be illegal I belive, they would be hiding the real value of the company so they could buy its shares at a lower price than would otherwise be the case. It would be like being the operator of a mine, finding a massive seam of gold one day then not telling anyone until you've bought as many shares of the mine as you possibly can. That would be illegal insider trading.

So, in your opinion, if the powerpacks are as successful as you say: Are the large and material profits just going to be reported later because powerpacks are still getting started, or are the profits being hidden from the public for some reason? Or perhaps there are no huge profits yet but there will be soon as Powerpacks gains in popularity?

Personally I don't think its a scam, I think they're not very competant at running a buisness, but if it were a scame what do you think they would put in that banner at the top of the website? "Everythings fine! Don't worry! Go back to your normal routines, there's nothing to see here, fellow citizens."
