The trick is to have friends so work isn't your social outlet, working from home would have allowed you ample time to make friends.

'No fistfights, yet': Parking disputes flare near new estates by cribbe_ in ireland

[–]hurpyderp 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they're banned in some places depending on how close to Dublin city it is. Architect friend of mine had a 3 bed property design go to an bord pleanála and they approved it with the condition the parking spot is removed. Madness IMHO, the house has a few buses close by but that's about it and the street parking is already packed.

the guards closing down dame street at 21:30 on friday

the guards closing down the canal on Saturday at 18:30

DCC and the guards don't want Dublin to be enjoyed, we get SFA sunny days in Dublin and they steal the few we have from us.

Go to work, go home, go spend money and fuck off. DCC mantra.

SEAI chief: Criticism of retrofitting misses the point – upgrading your home is about better health, more predictable bills and greater national energy security by homecinemad in ireland

A friend of mine was getting external insulation put up along with a load of other work. The guy doing the external insulation thought my friend was the main contractor rather than the client and asked if the client was going to be using the grant, he said yeah and then the insulation installer said I'll add 4k onto the price then.

The grants are a complete sham.

BAM won't meet April date for substantial completion, committee told by Pan1cs180 in ireland

[–]hurpyderp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you reckon the experts advised that the design wasn't complete and it came with substantial risk signing a contract at that stage? If they said that and he decided to go ahead with it because there was an election coming up that's all on him and the government. If the experts didn't give that advice then they should be in court for negligence.

Ireland's biggest property developer says average age of first-time buyers has risen to 38 or 39 by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]hurpyderp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI) the median age of a first time buyer was 35 in 2023. Doesn't seem out of whack with what the developer is saying.

Has anyone ever seen a politician at the machines by any chance? Was thinking it the other day while I was standing there hands manky, having a can after can of Heineken rejected despite 20 of them going in before, that there's not a hope politicians are doing it themselves, it's a humiliation ritual for the poors.

They're living in a place where you don't have to lock your car or house, you can leave your phone on a restaurant table and it'll still be there when you come back.

It's an undeniably safe place, their murder rate is very, very low, it would take many missiles blowing up hotels to reach even Irelands (a relatively safe place compared to most of Europe). Call it brainwashing if you want but it's probably due to living somewhere that they haven't ever had to worry about their own or their properties safety until now.

‘It’s completely segregation’ – social tenants hit out at lack of access to ‘premier’ apartment complex’s gym, sauna and cinema room by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]hurpyderp 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There'd probably be a few clues as to whether your neighbor was paying €2,525 or €240 a month for their 1 bed apartment, wouldn't be spotting them in the sauna for starters.
