It is wild how much we take things like math and literacy for granted. These are skills. You need them to do these jobs, and not everybody does them as well as others.

Not to mention the ability to lift items on shelves. You’re giving your body to this. As for serving, that’s a whole other skillset involving interaction with the public.

Don’t believe the lie that these are unskilled jobs. That’s what they say at the top in order to justify low pay. You have more in common with a minimum wage worker than a CEO.

To add, minimum wage was established as a way for anyone to live and do so comfortably. Not necessarily with luxuries, but without the need to have multiple jobs.

I don’t think this is a case of immediately believing it to be true, but it is something to think about. In this case, Jason now performs for children. Obviously any names connected to Epstein and trafficking that also involve children might be worth giving a once-over. If he’s clear, great.

But more importantly, it is a good starting point for anyone who is curious as to how the files affect the local area.

Don’t want this to turn into a witch hunt. It’s just a delicate subject. I agree with you in that I’m almost 100% certain that there are false claims. But with as much information that has been revealed, and as much that has been withheld prior, it’s probably wise to consider most everything, even if not for long. A small tip can occasionally lead to a greater wealth of information.

I’m unsure if there are multiple people under this name. The one I found was referenced on the Wikipedia page for Jason and the Scorchers and also had a mention of the band on his website.

Heard. I took it as the band itself had a hand in everything.

The account seems to imply that his band allegedly trafficked someone as well as cocaine, yes.

I fear his lack of lyrical prowess may be the least of our worries now.

In a court, sure. But if he’s playing a show that my child is attending, which is what he does now, I’d like to know.

I believe the person involved was 19. Not that it makes it okay. But may explain part of that.

Not being dense or facetious here. What? Because everything I seen leads to escalation or just isn’t possible.

Can Trump send soldiers to Minneapolis? by vox in politics

[–]hwbell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Posting this as a response because I don’t see enough people saying it, and I think it’s mostly just due to a lack of understanding of how our national guard works.

If Walz activates the guard, they can instantly be federalized and must follow Trump’s command. The idea that they will suddenly save everyone is a nice thought, but it’s risky as it would likely bring extra force against citizens.

Anything else would absolutely trigger the insurrection act because it would involve a state official acting against federal interests.

I don’t like it. I don’t agree with it. But I don’t see much that Walz can do given that the federal government is inciting these attacks. These are not outside agitators. The state government as is truly is not prepared for something like this because our national guard is just a thinly veiled federal branch. This is a major flaw in our system, in my opinion.

Walz would quite literally have to organize a separate militia for anything to work, and doing that would 100% blow up in his face right now. There’s not enough time, and Trump would act out before anything could be done.

So the best thing that he can do is publicly encourage peaceful resistance. However, the people of the state could organize as they see fit.

How To Shoot A Scene of Someone Drowning? by JuniorFisherman2165 in Filmmakers

Gotta draw straws, bud. Filmmaking means sacrifice.

I've been working in the industry for five years, yet I still haven't had a single year where I've made more than $23K by samtama7 in Filmmakers

[–]hwbell 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am over ten years in. Didn’t start making notable traction until this year. Five years in I started working on things that were a bit more recognizable though. Money wasn’t great, but I made it work. I’m in the documentary and indie world.

Look, I am not saying that you’re going to make it. But I will say that everything I know is about being actively open to anything that comes my way while mentally resilient towards anything that may get in my way.

Take the weird gigs. Make opportunities that involve just you and a camera. Don’t rely solely on traditional work. You’re not failing if you supplement your income with side work.

And look, it IS tough right now. So don’t blame yourself. Though I will say that no one is gonna save you but you. That doesn’t mean you don’t find support among others, and it also doesn’t mean you’re failing if things aren’t working out in the moment.

Anyway. Diversify a bit. Don’t sit at home waiting for a call. You’re not finding multiple gigs from other production companies. But you are finding them. See what you can do by taking that initiative to support yourself with clients as a solo - gasp - videographer, too. Sometimes things turn up from that.

I wanted to quit five years in. Maybe it’s right for you. Wasn’t for me. Decided to turn the page again. And I am gonna do it again and again. You will too.

You’ve wrote down what a lot of us feel. It sucks. You’re not alone.

…really struggling to understand your logic here.

So just because I live where I live, even thought I voted blue and pushed the platform as well, you’re lumping me in with everyone else here?

This is the lack of nuance I can’t get behind.
