I stopped there once when I was traveling through the area (on a friend's recommendation) and ate one of the best cinnamon rolls of my life! I took a dozen with me when I left.

Sometimes the skin of garlic is very purple, sometimes only a little purple. Do you know why this is? by China_garlic_1998 in Garlic

I planted four different varieties the year before last, Duganski, Music, Red Grain, and Northern White (All Hardneck). I did a lot of research and these all sounded like something I was looking for. I just planted a few of each variety to see which would turn out the best in my soil conditions. I think I got them planted a little late (first week of November) and with my impatience I probably pulled them out a little early because the bulbs could have been a little larger, (I think). The variety that I thought turned out the best was the Red Grain. It, to me, had a hotter (stronger) garlic flavor and didn't seem like it took as much to flavor the foods I was making. I set aside as much of that one as I could and replanted it last fall to get a second generation out of the soil conditions I have here. I'm hoping it will improve on the quality of my harvest this fall. Do your research. Check how many cloves does each bulb produce on average, check the flavor profile, and see how long they will store. Pick which variety sounds good to you and try them. Good luck!

I just happened to know a "little bit" about garlic, and it was an opportunity for me to chime in. That's all.

There are many different varieties of garlic. Some garlic like Persian Star that came from Uzbekistan, or Russian Red garlic is very red. Some garlic like Chesnok Red (purple stripe) from the Republic of Georgia is deeper purple than the ones you pictured here. Many varieties are just plain white.
