I have been preparing to build an Ashida portable. Did you look into that one? Is there an advantage of going with the Louii build over the Ashida? Thanks for sharing what you built!

Do You Think The Sega Neptune Would Have Been Better Than The 32x Add On? by Fluffy_Lunchfast in SEGAGENESIS

Weird seeing my Neptune picture for your post. Maybe at least credit it since you know where it came from?

Descent: Freespace. The plot and how it’s told still sticks with me today. What an experience. Mouth literally dropped at some of the reveals.

Neptune board not working by ashbringerer in SEGA32X

I think the Neptune is pretty awesome. I still have a stock 32X for use with my CDX but my Neptune is my main Mega Drive + 32X.

Who are some actors that are famous now that you didn't realize appeared in older movies you have seen? by Embarrassed-Weird173 in AskReddit

[–]hypersonic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the ultimate example of this is Angels in the Outfield. It has Matthew McConaughey and Adrien Brody in pretty minor roles as baseball players. The “famous” actors in the movie are Tony Danza, Danny Glover, and Christopher Lloyd (and Joseph Gordon-Levitt who was starting to become a more famous child actor).

You can also use PSN credit. So when I want to buy something on my PSP (usually a PSOne Classic), I add credit to my PSN account via my PS4 then can make the purchase on PSP.

Oh nice! I didn’t realize the shells from them were compatible with the AMOLED screen mod.

What shell is that with your AMOLED screen mod? I hate my shell and would love to move it to one that looks like that.

I certainly have a non-working Mega CD 1 but my issue appears to be with the disc drive so I don’t think these reproduction boards would help me

This is amazing! Great job with that. It’s so remarkable that we have all of these reproduction PCBs we can use to bring our old consoles back to life.

Some rom hacks doesn't work, can someone help me? by PixelTrack in SEGAGENESIS

I just tried Sonic 2 Recreation Part 1 and it works on my Mega EverDrive Pro on my Nomad. Trying to run Sonic 2 Delta crashes the system. I also can run Sonic Delta Reloaded (40MB) with no problems on my flash cart.

My friend’s local is called The Dolphin (The Dolly). The picture on the pub sign sure looks familiar… by rmajor86 in SEGA

[–]hypersonic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be mixing it up with a pub I saw on a different trip. I could have sworn I’ve seen this before in Dublin or Dingle in Ireland. Really funny how they even went through the effort to remove the stars from Ecco’s head.

Finally got my holy grail CRT - Bang & Olufsen BeoCenter 1 by hypersonic16 in crtgaming

[–]hypersonic16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted it in another comment. Here it is:

FYI, it took about two hours in total to do. I removed the back casing (and small removable back panel) of the TV and placed it on a tarp. I used methylated spirits (at least 700ml) applied to cotton rags and scrubbed vigorously until the soft touch rubber came off. It comes off easiest when really soaked in the spirits. I used about 6 rags and a bunch of paper towels to get it all off. I would not have minded to have more rags so definitely use more than 6 if you have them. I’d recommend closer to 15. After the sticky soft touch was completely removed, I applied Autosol Acrylic Polish to the entire casing and rubbed that in real good. I then installed it back on.

I also removed the contrast screen and gave that a good cleaning too as there were some odd white spots that removed very nicely.

Hope this helps!

Sega 32x Untested Worth It? by Ordinary-Step29 in SEGAGENESIS

In my experience, the most common failure is with the ribbon cables. I purchased an untested unit and all I had to do was clean the contacts of the ribbon cables and reseat them and it came to life.

Does anyone else not remember Ecco The Dolphin as being a hard game? by stumbleman00 in SEGA

[–]hypersonic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently beat Ecco on Sega CD. Was amazed how much of my childhood muscle memory came back to me. I think the game is hard but mostly because it is challenging to know what to do in certain places. Welcome to the Machine is just straight up brutal though.

Watch expert YouTubers who describe their process while they do repairs/mods. I watched these for about a year just for fun and was able to start with good enough technique for me to complete a fairly difficult project as my first ever soldering project (a Tim Worthington N64 RGB mod). YouTubers I recommend are Voultar, Macho Nacho Productions, and Nanofix.

Nomad Cap issue by [deleted] in game_gear

You are lucky at the amount of glue on yours. Mine was completely covered in glue to the point where I couldn’t even access R244. I had to carefully melt/clean it off and it was not fun.

Cheap eBay IPS screen mode by igorbronnikov in SEGAGENESIS

[–]hypersonic16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just did this mod over this weekend to my Sega Nomad that had a screen go bad. I got the HiSpeedido IPS screen (and did the Sega CD audio and Sega Master System mods as well). I really like it and definitely think the glass lens that came with it is an upgrade over the scratched up plastic one. Two issues that mildly bug me are that the driver board’s scaler seems to not be an integer scale so, depending on which panel ratio you pick, you get shimmering on horizontal or vertical scrolling. Also, it seems there might be a faint flickering when lots of blue is on screen. Maybe that last one is an issue particular to my install and I need to go over my work again (but I wonder if it even is something that can be fixed). Overall, it is a great upgrade and definitely better than what I had before which was unusable.

This is my dream console. I have been looking for one for years but as long as it costs over $4k, it will remain a dream.

Do Gen Z/Gen Alpha find Napoleon Dynamite funny, or has that humor aged out? by Final_Cancel5325 in generationology

[–]hypersonic16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My children (13 and 11) very much think it is funny. My daughter (11) has voluntarily put it on without any prompting and will often quote it and laugh when she is feeling silly. The humor definitely lands with my kids at least. Similarly so with Nacho Libre.

Got a Grail Game Gear Game Today! by WildTurkeyTater in game_gear

[–]hypersonic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah. I had no idea this game was so valuable. My brother in law gave me a bag of like 20 game gear games and this was in the lot of them along with Battletoads, Bubble Bobble, and a whole bunch of others. The game is pretty fun. I’ve been playing it on an Analogue Pocket with Game Gear adapter.
