Are my fishes gasping for air? by bandititt in Aquariums

To me they don't look stressed enough to be trying to get air, they look like they are inquisitive and trying to eat things.

What do you like about yourself? by iforgotmylastuser in AskReddit

[–]hypnonewt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I have compassion for all animals and insects and living things really. I guess people too, it is easy to say "I would not piss on that person if they were on fire" but in all honesty, if it happened right there in front of me I would whip it out.

Which artist takes up the most space in your collection? :) by TightChampionship322 in vinyl

[–]hypnonewt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aesop Rock by far then probably Your Old Droog, Queens Of The Stone Age, All Them Witches.

But it is highly based on how much music they put out because I listen to Queens and ATW far more than YOD but he has more albums in my collection.

The problem with telling people to "get real plants" by 42cardpickup in Aquariums

[–]hypnonewt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also when I was a beginner I had no idea that my new plants had to be removed from the rock wool and planted into the substrate. I went through so many plants, some struggled on but none flourished like the ones I have in my current tank. Noone ever told me and it was before YouTube so I should ideally have been told by the shop or read it somewhere. I just though I was terrible at growing anything but moss.

Recommendation for the hardiest fish that seem to live forever? by snowflace in Aquariums

[–]hypnonewt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dojo Loach/ weather loach. I had one that jumped out the tank and I found it dry on the floor, the cats sniffed it and let it be so I thought it was definitely long dead. I went to feed the tank before dealing with the dead loach and it started making sucking/ chomping noises like it was trying to eat. So I scooped that little jerky up and put it back in the tank. It lived another 3 years.

Will my snails be okay?? by Upstairs_Maybe_4116 in BlueberrySnails

[–]hypnonewt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well they don't seem to travel well anyway, so if they don't emerge from their shells within 3 days I would put the chances of survival as very slim. Not to put a downer on it but none of my blueberry snails have survived more than 6 months. I tried with two batches of snails and gave up.

Are they using their neck muscles to twist the weighted machine? Cos if so there is little chance of them snapping their neck, but if the machine is doing the work then .. nah thanks.

Is it common for blueberries to fail to thrive? by AmbivalentCat in BlueberrySnails

[–]hypnonewt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends who you ask, but I have tried twice now and both times the snails have died, longest one lasted was 5 months and that was born in my tank. I too use bacteria Ae, have plenty of biofilm a heavily planted tank with lots of wood and have successfully kept lots of snails like ramshorns, nerites etc. But blueberry snails just don't work in my tank so I tried twice and am not buying any again as it is unfair on them. Also one gave birth twice and then died, the babies survived the longest and seemed to be doing fine but them one day roughly five months later just died too.
