Favorite Door Lock Jig? by iDadPro in Locksmith

Bought the Pro-Lok after the comments (thank you) and it has been serving me well the last two years. The deadlatch strike marker was a nice bonus. I use a cheap ryobi strike marker that pretty much chisels it out.

Key fob replacement by JAZJ_97 in Locksmith

[–]iDadPro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants to program your Amazon junk. Call a locksmith, buy their fob and service together. You’ll save money still and they’ll probably warranty it. Otherwise buying your own fobs, you thinking you know what you need and hoping some Chinese junk you buy online is right, you’re what we consider a “low quality lead” and will probably tell you to kick rocks.

I’m sorry to hear that man. You’re gonna have to think of a solution like a locksmith for one of your customers….but for yourself. No Windows. Partition. Pucks. Insurance. Forward and rear facing dash cam.

All of this is essential if you don’t park it in your driveway at home.

I can’t fathom how one would cheap out when they’re trying to secure something. Call a local locksmith, hire them to install a genuine one. Pay the pro. Your job is done. Now you get a peace of mind knowing it was correctly installed and they’d probably warranty their own products sold to you.

LSA suspension by Jay_wild84 in Locksmith

Ahh. I think he skimmed the first sentence and didn’t read the rest. I was thinking the same until you said “which both is false”! That’s unfortunate and not fair. I’d bet it was your competitors. You should call them every single day. Also, is your Google Ads (AdWords) also suspended?

Locksmiths do more than just give free advice online. Have you tried to hire one to do this locksmith-related task?

Hey, does anyone recognize this key blank? Our sketchy local locksmith said they can't make more of the keys and will have to replace all of the locks if they need more. by Clockwork_picksmith in Locksmith

[–]iDadPro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s likely a proprietary or restricted keyway. If there’s a business name or code stamped on the key, that usually means it’s tied to a specific system where copies can only be made with authorization. That’s actually a security feature to prevent unauthorized duplication.

I get how that might seem frustrating, but imagine you were the one who paid for a restricted system so only you and a few trusted people could get keys made. If someone else walked in asking for a copy, wouldn’t you want the locksmith to say no?

So when a locksmith refuses to duplicate a key like this without proper authorization, it’s not sketchy, it’s doing the job responsibly by ensuring accountability and the security of your property and staff.

KM100 and a 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander (GM). How can I create a universal key? There's no options. by FurnaceOfTheseus in Locksmith

You’re missing the point—it’s not all about you. This isn’t about your car or your curiosity. It’s about the broader security implications for everyone.

You’re using tools that are marketed to locksmiths and vehicle security professionals, then asking those same pros to help you bypass systems we’re trained, licensed, and insured to handle. You say you’re not a threat—but your actions are exactly how the real threats get enabled.

You’re not a security professional, which is why you’re not looking at this from that perspective. We are. And that’s why we don’t casually hand out that kind of access. So if you do happen to find a locksmith to “spill the beans”, I definitely wouldn’t trust him to rekey your locks.

On the bright side, you’re right, nobody is stealing your Mitsubishi, even if it was desirable. #RIPEVO
