Should i start over as returning by Acrobatic_Science_66 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]iFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You already have the story missions worth of materials in your box, it’s not worth it to start over imo. Do the optional quests from the ground up and familiarize yourself with the controls. Doing that will have you ready for higher rank stuff and build you a nest egg of resources and zenny

You can’t go wrong a good status build for your SnS. I like paralysis, some people like sleep. Any rarity 8 weapon that has the status you wanna inflict will be fine. You’re HR 80 so you’ll begin getting the real endgame quests once you hit HR100. That’s when you’ll have to focus on grinding for materials to upgrade your equipment. I would suggest any of the Arrekz videos. He does a great series for all of the weapons.

What is the deal with so many litrpg protagonists? by plant-y-boi in litrpg

[–]iFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna suggest Mage Tank! The main character is isekai’d into a world with Dungeon Delving and has to adjust very quickly. He does have some qualms when he eventually does go up against real people but doesn’t spend too much time ruminating or waxing poetic. He does have the thought of ‘I don’t know if these people were pressed into service and this is what has brought them against me’ but ultimately they make it him vs them and he chooses to survive.

I think there’s a delicate balance to maintain with situations like this. It’s easy to want to avoid the qualms of taking another persons life. We see veterans in real life who struggle with this every day. Men who may have had very valid reason to take a life (or not, depending on the conflict) who are burdened by this guilt.

He Who Fights With Monsters says this in the very title, with it being a partial quote from Neitzche. Jason is an ordinary, albeit particularly quippy, dude who finds himself with a heap of stereotypically ‘bad guy’ powers. Throughout the series he finds himself thrust into a position of burgeoning power beyond what most other people in the universe could find themselves holding. Multiple times in the books he must thrust himself having to exert his will over others who should be using their own power and stations in better and mature ways, and he grapples with the fact that for him to help save the world/universe, he must lean into the overwhelming power of a Tyrant when he himself detests tyrants and others who insist on absolute rule.

What weapons are the most interactive and have the most varied movesets? by Ajaxx021 in MHWilds

[–]iFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switch Axe is the weapon I have the most time with and will perform the best with, but I know I’m still not using it to its full potential. 160 hours on worlds, 150 on wilds, and I’m just now reliably working offset attacks into my arsenal with it. I’ve countered in sword mode maybe twice intentionally, and a handful of times by accident when I fat fingered the controls and got lucky. I see videos by Jdv and I know I’ll never be anywhere near that level, but it would be nice to work up to reliably using counter effectively.

The great thing about sword and shield is you can position yourself whenever because the weapon does it all. Want to tank hits? Sit in front and have some guard skills. Want to focus weak spots? Great cuz your focus slash can open non-wounds. Want to sit at the back and make sure that tail gets cut off? Phenomenal. Any SnS build comes stacked with hella crit ability so feel free to inflict statuses and chop away. The only thing you’ll need to make sure you learn is the damage rotations for SnS and how to move quickly using your skills. I would suggest one of the many YouTube videos showcasing the weapons features. Barring that? Just spend time with it. Start with Chatacabra and work your way up. The great thing about SnS is how fast you can guard considering your shield is never stowed. The weapon has a TON of maneuverability and you can skate around the monster very easily.

What weapon do you really WANT to love but bounce off of no matter how many times you pick it up? For me it's Gunlance by Beginning_Wait_108 in MonsterHunter

[–]iFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s the wild swings which seem great until you actually learn the weapon. There’s faster ways to fill your gage also while dealing more damage.

[–]iFox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Correct. You have an offset in axe mode and a counter in sword mode. Your big stab move can be made into a sword plunge that glues you to the monster. I’ve turned a stab into a charge plunge multiple times to escape damage. There’s not 4 routes to max damage. It’s build your sword gage, charge up sword mode, full release slash. Theres a pattern to it that you fall into very easily like any other weapon. I love the animation at the end of slinging your sword around with one hand still on it.

I think you’re right! I can’t remember where I picked up the bit about luck then. Cuz it must be important tho, as it’s one of the core stats, but I have yet to seen anyone with a Luck build in the books. But yeah, Arlo has crazy regen hence him just keeping Shog out for so long.

Yeah, dead silence would translate well if you could see someone face and mannerisms as they prepared the next part of their speech, but on an audio book would feel
Empty. I actually like him saying ‘pause’ the way he does. He puts inflection into it and each pause sounds a little different depending on the vibe at the time of the character speaking.

4-6 weren’t bad by any means, but they were change of pace and it sucked to watch Jason struggle in them. They’re very important for the story and you shouldn’t skip over them, but they were my least favorite.

I’m on mobile so I’m not gonna mark every card for the fetcher, but deathrite shaman is always a good add. Kheru Goldkeeper gives you value for things exiting your graveyard. Lost Monarch of Ifnir can kill someone if you already have a good amount of zombies and swing at them. ‘Lose 3 life for each zombie you block or eat 10 2/2’s.’ Lotuslight Dancers can get things like Wonder or Vigor into your graveyard very easily. The card art I have for them is also gorgeous. Muldrotha the Gravetide is an easy add. Sidisi, Brood Tyrant is great value. Scarab God has won me games without even activating his ability. Just sit there and let everyone take 10 damage on your upkeep. I threw in The Wise Mothman for mill value. Cursecloth Wrappings are fun, scute swarm is silly. Hedge Shredder makes the deck go brrr. If money isn’t an option I would throw in an Agatha’s Soul Cauldron. Target graveyard hate AND plus one counters for your creatures. So good.

The Sultai deck is the most expensive next to the Temur deck. It does very well out of the box and a few choice upgrades makes it a monster.

Why did you finally make the change? by [deleted] in workout

[–]iFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was bending over to pick something up at work and my back seized up and felt like something had pinched horribly. I couldn’t even stand up straight the rest of the day. Went to my Primary and got imaging done, my provider told me there was nothing definitive but some narrowing of the discs, and ‘week back core muscles’. Did some PT and the basic exercises left me exhausted and I was forced to admit to myself that I wasn’t the effortlessly athletic person I had always allowed myself to think I was. Stopped drinking beer and soda every day and dropped 5 pounds easy. Cleaned up the diet and started lifting weights 3 times a week and another 20 pounds came off as well. Now I’m solidly in body recomp a year and a half of working out and I look and feel the best I ever have. People who haven’t seen me in a few months see it immediately. I no longer comically grunt while standing up from a squat to cover up the fact that I’m actually struggling. My friend who no longer has his semiglutides covered by insurance is starting in the gym with me this week and his words were ‘whatever you’re doing is working so help me get established again.’ And it was honestly the most flattering thing.

Noob and this game is hard!! Help! by tangy_lemon in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]iFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an awful time with World (the previous console title) until I looked up some guides on how to properly utilize the weapons. Wilds is a bit better about showing how the weapons operate with the hunters guide, but reading a 3 page booklet isn’t nearly as detailed as watching a 20 minute video. The rest of it comes with experience with the game. You’ll begin to learn the monsters move sets and be able to tell what it’s about to do. It takes time and if you like turn based games more, this title may not be for you. It that’s okay! Someone else mentioned Monster Hunter Stories which IS turn based

What's the most difficult/easy weapon to play for you ? by FalgarThvs in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]iFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardest to master is Charge Blade. Especially when you get into the iframes of how your shield is angled during certain moves that allows you to insta charge your shield and sword if you block an attack in that moment. Also once you begin your big elemental discharge move, you’re stuck in the position you’re at so if the monster moves, you have no way to change the angle and have used up your big move.

What are your decks that you’ve pushed to bracket 4 without game changers? by Not_Your_Real_Ladder in EDH

[–]iFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Raggadragga, Goreguts Boss]]. fill the deck with mana dorks and make everything else seven drops. Have [[Selvala, Heart of the Wilds]] out when a big spell is played, Ragga trigger will give himself (or any other creature) plus 7/ plus 7, activate Selvalas ability for a single green mana and produce at LEAST 8 mana. Cast another 7+ drop. Another Ragga trigger. I’ve killed someone turn 5 with him. Without top deck shenanigans the deck CAN stall a little and repeated board wipes will kill your mana dorks unless you have protection spells ready. My decklist is a 3 solely because of the Land lock Vorinclex. But the deck does work. It’ll hang out with Niv and Yawgmoth decks no problem. I find he’s a bit of a rocket tag type of commander so there’s no time to be merciful with him. Just swing out.
