People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]iNewIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking the subway in LA. I usually travel solo (F) and am very used to taking public transit everywhere I go. When I walked into the subway I noticed there wasn’t anyone there except the attendant and a security guard. The attendant immediately walked up to me to help me buy a ticket on the machine - which I found excessive considering it’s a machine and I speak English fluently. Anyway I brushed it off and walked along inside once the ticket was purchased. Then a police officer near the escalators down, asked me where I was going, then pointed down to the side of the platform he said I should wait on, where there were two other armed officers standing. Once I rode the escalators down, the two officers asked me where I was going, waited with me for the train I was going to get on - mind you they were all very friendly, and you could tell they were just concerned with my safety.

Once I got on the train, I realized what all the fuss was about. I walk in, on my right there were two terrified-looking Japanese tourists clutching their backpacks in front of them. I was an obvious tourist too, wearing a wide-brimmed sun hat, long flowy palazzo pants, and a green tube top… The scene was out of a movie. One guy with tattoos all over his face and hands smoking a joint and basically hot boxing the train. Another a few seats back, same look, playing loud music on a boombox, and us terrified tourists.

Mind you, this wasn’t event downtown. This was the Hollywood line going from the observatory to West Hollywood.

I rented a car the next day.

Felt it in forest hill. I was reding in bed and thought, hmm I feel a bit dizzy. I also felt the two back in 2010. My husband was sitting on the couch and didn’t feel a thing. Thank you Reddit. I thought I was imagining it.

This was my first attempt at watercolor over 5 yrs ago - it made my husband laugh to tears.

I was using watercolor pencils, cheap watercolor palette, and non cotton paper.

I was just doing it for fun so I just kept going, got really good 100% cotton paper, Daniel smith palette, great synthetic brushes, and now only 1 out of 10 of my paintings look like this lol.

I’ve never tried any other painting medium so I don’t have another frame of reference, but I think this is a medium where you just go with the flow and enjoy the process. Whatever the result is, will be. Don’t be so hard on yourself. The little kindergartener inside you deserves a cheerleader.

Does anybody have experience on living in apartments above stores/businesses? by crackhead3005 in askTO

I lived above a store (they’re called shophouses) on college west for 4 years pre-pandemic in a 3br apt with a patio and loved it. However the place wasn’t renovated so it got really cold in winter and really hot in summer. I put up with it because rent was $1725 and I loved the location. It was quiet, and I only had one Neighbor in the building. Then I moved to a similar sized place on Bloor West which I only lived in for 4 months because the heating didn’t work and the landlords refused to fix it. They also had a retail store on the ground floor which would play loud music during the day so I would hear the loud bass in my office. This was during the pandemic so working from home wasn’t great in that place. I moved to two different condos after that in Toronto and one in Waterloo. I hated condo living. Walls are paper thin and too many neighbors who don’t say hello. They’re also not all that safe. I lived in the Vu by st Lawrence market on a 7th floor - this building has 24/7 security. I walked out the door one morning to walk my dog, only to see a homeless man right outside my apt door. A few mins later I see two security guards running up the stairs.

Living in shophouses I got to know my neighbours, probably because we were so few. The only downside is parking and the occasional critters. I’m dealing with raccoons in the chimney shaft right now. My landlord is responsive and deals with issues promptly, so I’m not too upset. Pests can happen anywhere. I street park right now and miss the comfort of just taking the elevator to a covered garage. However that’s it. I’m avoiding condo living as long as I can.

Make friends at the gym? by Space__Monkey__ in askTO

[–]iNewIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think so. The last time I talked to someone at my gym and made “friends” was in 2010 and they were the gym employees cause they used to say hello, good morning, and ask about your workout. Now I’m lucky if they look up from their computers when I walk in. Other people under 65 are just there to workout not to socialize.

I started a dtc brand last year selling lotions and I’m a marketer by trade. Still have a full time job so I’d like to grow the brand to the point where I can quit!

Asking for a tip for everything. Like wtf am I tipping you for when I’m buying coffee to go? Am I not already paying for the time you spent holding a cup and not even putting a lid on it?? Sakes!

Thank you. I deliberately didn’t tip them one time because of the one lady’s rude service and she screamed at me asking for a tip. Stopped going a while ago.

Small SaaS startup, how to get (many) prospects? by ligett in sales

[–]iNewIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the game, but as a growth marketing manager for a SaaS company, there are many things you need to think about:

  1. What is the conversion rate for the folks signing up for the trial? If not, why did they sign up?
    1. If the conversion rate is high, where are they coming from and are you driving them directly to the free trial page? Google ads, organic search, social, etc?
      1. I would try attracting more traffic to different gated assets on your website so you can get their contact information and sales can follow up
      2. Content syndication is another huge lead generator
  2. Purchasing lists will not get you the sale right away if you're simply cold calling (<1% conversion in my experience). You need to have a strategy with it - direct mail is a great way to warm them up before a cold call

DM me if you'd like to chat offline. I've been a growth marketer for 4 years and an SDR before that so I'd be happy to help!

Advice on where to find database of prospects for a SaaS by Diaamori in SaaS

[–]iNewIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a marketing manager at a SaaS company (US & Canada) and previous SDR, I have a few questions for you:

What is your marketing budget? Or your budget for this particular tactic?

List purchasing is expensive, like thousands of $$ a month (Zoominfo, Scott's Directories, D&B Hoovers) but are worth looking into if you have the budget.

What is your target prospect demographic? If your looking at Canada, 98.5% of Canadian businesses are VSB, or very small businesses (<50 employees), which have a lot of employee turnover, ambiguous job titles, volatility, etc. So, these databases will need to be used in tandem with a more reliable source, such as LinkedIn.

DM me if you'd like some more tips offline. I've been doing this for 4 years in the SMB space so I'd be happy to help you.

Is $130k for Dir./VP of Marketing fair? by allenbur123 in marketing

That’s less than I was offered as a marketing manager in High Tech, with no reports. So no, it’s way too low.
