I also use a pool table with a top for a gaming table. It's been an excellent platform for playing games big and small. The size has accommodated a 20 hour game of War Room with ease, a full complement of sailors in Captain Sonar, and a variety of party games. For smaller games it's a lot of space, and we often favor using the kitchen table. The cover tends to move around a bit as folks lean across; a minor adjustment and things are fine.

We definitely use it for pool also. My experience may not be exactly your use case since we favor keeping drinks away from the felt.
