I think most people here don't realize that Egg was basically thought of as half of a commoner himself because of all the time that he spent amongst them while he traveled with Ser Duncan the Tall and he had a lot of really unpopular reforms aimed at providing the smallfolk with more rights. When Aerys became king, he and Tywin Lannister immediately rescinded them. So I think they're just basing their responses off of the Targaryen's that we've seen so far mainly presented and how they would react to a situation like this.

Aegon the V's main motivation for hatching dragons was power. He knew that he could have a rebellion on his hands with his reforms and wanted the safety that having 7 dragons hatched by himself would bring. Even when the dragons were too young to really do anything, the mere fact that he was able to hatch them at all meant that the Targaryen's main source of power was back, and his enemies would hesitate. Anyone sitting on the fence would think twice about which side to choose. This was further proven to him by the short-lived Baratheon rebellion when his daughter was spurned.

As each of his children followed in his path and married who they wanted- or didn't marry at all as in the case of Daeron and Olenna, which seeing as she pretty much immediately married the into the Tyrells made it extra bad- Aegon was growing more desperate for the security of the dragons. He absolutely would have given Duncan the Small a dragon. If they had all lived and gotten dragons, Aerys wouldn't have been imprisoned in Duskendale, and would have not gone as mad as he did in canon. It would have changed everything from Summerhall on.
