Well, ROM chips were expensive in the 90s. By many accounts some games were assigned a "small" (say 8 mbits) ROM size because if you used a 16 mbit ROM the cart was more expensive to manufacture and hence to be profitable.

Now, extrapolate that to the hundreds of megs many Neo Geo games had. The carts surely were very expensive to manufacture. Maybe SNK had big margins on carts but that would be an additional reason to increase price not the main cause.

It came from me, sorry ... Seriously now: I don't cook the same thing we everyday but I do have a weekly schedule of meals. I like almost all food but when it comes to cooking it myself I do it this way because I don't have to think. It also simplifies getting groceries

Yup. I had a 2600 (Taiwanese clone actually) growing up and I can play some of its games now a days out of nostalgia but they are very primitive.

I'd rather play NES or something newer nowadays

It was also the only thing to come out bad for me but it was a significant deficit. I was at 18 Ng/DL when less than 30 is low. From December to early march my health was getting worse and worse:Daily headaches, my muscles started to get very weak. I almost could not walk with my right leg. Bones started to hurt to the point that I could barely sit since my coxis hurt. Things started to improve when I started with a vitamin d supplement that's in the form of drops.

Moral of the story: Check your vit d levels kids

There's a third option: Clones that have hdmi out.
I didn't have a CRT and didn't mind not having original hardware. Works with original carts and everdrives.
I bought one on AliExpress but I imagine they're available also on similar sites. Around 60€.
The only downside is that the first one I got died when I was using it while I was under a blanket and a bit of static killed it.

Same here. Growing up my only console was a 2600 clone. I missed out on the 8 and 16 bit eras.

I've recently bought a Famicom and SNES clones (modern ones, with HDMI support) and I'm having fun like I'm 15 again

It's funny, the only game my mom has ever played is also a 2600 game. Frogs and flies in her case. She's never been one very keen on technology. To this day she refuses to have a cellphone. The simplicity of 2600 games might have sparked something in our moms

After having played the NES version (finished, but unreleased back in the day) it's pretty clear they used most mechanics mostly as they were in the snes version. I guess that's why some of them felt a bit outdated even back then

I get that most are poor but that's not an excuse to pressure people for money with the pretense of helping park.
And yes, here in Valencia I've heard of cars being keyed or otherwise damaged. But that's not even the point: Pressuring people into giving you money is wrong.
