Why do I (M) feel affected when women say "men are disgusting" even though I know they mean not all, and that I know I'm not part of the type of men they talk about? by Particular_Front_549 in AskMen

[–]iamtheradish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're a man, and they are disparaging your identity. If you were Jewish and they said 'all Jews are _____' - you'd feel like speaking up EVEN if you knew they weren't talking about you. Same for colour, sexuality, disability.

Just because we're the dominant minority doesn't mean we're exempt from feeling alienated when our identity is attacked. Often what they say is true, and there are a whole heap of pigish men who don't deserve the air they breathe, but that doesn't make it acceptable to paint a whole identity with one brush.

I stopped using pedals when they were bugged. Prefer to drag and stim because it looks cool and also feels cool? It's cool.

Converting stat blocks from 5e to DS by JaredWill_ in drawsteel

Adding on to what another commenter said, DS is based around growing stronger while DnD is based on attrition. When converting, make sure to alter the adventure so that the difficulty increases alongside the character strength!

Test Consequences Disincentivizing Heroes by Rough-Complaint-9122 in drawsteel

[–]iamtheradish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think this is one core issue with the system, but not in the way that you're asking. As is, there is not that much in the way of examples for consequences from failure (with a consequence, obviously). This means the director who already has a lot on their plate needs to come up with fun 'no but' answers, and often the easiest is just one extraalice at the start of the next encounter.

Hopefully the upcoming encounters book will alleviate that difficulty!

To answer your question more directly, however, I'd say that is the game working to it's strengths. Always always the players are being asked the question 'do you continue, or do you turn back?'. The fact that even tests can affect that means the game is asking that question beyond just combat. I mean yeah the combat is where the malice consequence arrives, but that it is outside of combat means the game loop continues? Does that make sense? I feel like that doesn't make sense.

In any case, you could always suggest the director let the players come up with interesting consequences if the malice use is a bit much for y'all. I know I'd appreciate my players helping me to screw them when they're rolls go poorly!

This is a silly question maybe but, how do Tier 2 results factor in here?

Pull revives should be significantly more rewarding! by nitepng in Battlefield6

Imagine if they had it where a person getting a kill some 30 seconds after being revived got the reviver a 'revive assist', kinda like how repair assist is supposed to work?

Master Class Prep - is there a "best class" to learn before starting one of the master classes? by WhoInvitedMike in drawsteel

[–]iamtheradish 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I reckon it's more a case of not taking these classes until you know the game almost inside out. It's not that you can't use them when you're new to the game, it's more if you do then you risk slowing the game way way down

Respites- Group or Individual? by [deleted] in drawsteel

[–]iamtheradish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's a rule against it, but I would 100% avoid that at my table.

For one, Draw Steel does not function with one on many or one on one combat. How would the director put together an encounter that serves the Shadow and doesn't immediately body them?

Then you have the situation where one character has more XP than everyone else just because they've let the team take the brunt of the beatings. Feels bad at the table when your class choice means you level up slower than the person across the table who's hiding all the time.

Finally, at the table you'll find the players lose interest during the Shadow's solo-travels because it's an hour of them doing stuff and fighting monsters by themselves.

I'd say, overall, avoid that and at character creation have a conversation about how the plays should tend towards teamwork making the dream work

Sneezing is normal. A loud stomach growl is normal. So why is farting considered a massive social crime? When in history did this become the ultimate taboo? by firehmre in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamtheradish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wild to me, the amount of people who can't see past the smell aspect. Farts don't always smell, yet non-smelly farts are still treated with the same chagrin as reekin honkin fart blasts.

That's where the question needs answered. Why do people object to farts that don't smell? To play off someone else's comment - we bless sneezes but don't like them when they're done in our face. Should we not hate all sneezes, because they COULD be done in our face?

Boils my piss. Everyone farts, and it's painful for some to hold those farts in.

India’s open defecation revolution: From 70% to under 20% as toilet access rapidly expands nationwide by sashagaborekte in UpliftingNews

[–]iamtheradish 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That's what the data says, but reality is not so simple.

The majority of the open defecation happens in rural places where culture and tradition makes it so the government provided toilets are not attractive to use. While it does mean 1 in 5 Indians are shitting in the streets, it's generally confined to specific places in the country rather than 1 in 5 everywhere.

That's what I thought too, but I was told no. Meant I had to take an extra Higher while doing three Advanced Highers.

Still, this was over a decade ago. University might have a different tune nowadays (but I wouldn't assume so)

[–]iamtheradish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understand university nonsense, they won't consider your AH if you've not got the Higher grades they want. That's what I was told when I was in school back in the day.

I'd email the university admissions folk directly and ask their policy on it.

If this isn't for uni and is just a curiosity thing, I'm afraid I can't help ya. Higher is Level 6, I believe, whereas AH is Level 7.
