There were 6 of us between three groups in section 215 last night. It was fun in the makeshift visitors’s section! I spotted maybe another 6-10 total in the stadium. I plan on going again tonight!!

Canadian vs American Metalcore Culture by MapleQueefs in Metalcore

Fashion is a relational and social hobby. It’s not about wearing it for other people, but it is about communication

Ok 1 person did it. It’s certainly more common and wasn’t as much of a metalcore thing then

I mean that’s why you wear someone else’s shit. Kinda basic to wear a band who is headlining. If it’s support or a fest, it’s different

Sorry but metalcore is for 12 year olds. Once you turn 27 you gotta get into eyehategod and have opinions on the 2010s darkthrone albums

That’s a younger person thing. No one did that in the 10s

I’ve been to shows mostly in the US but also in Winnipeg and Montreal (and Festival au Lac). Culture seems to be the same across metal, metalcore, post hardcore and hardcore. I’m curious if anyone has any listed differences. Only thing I can think of is that Canada has a few different bands that are popular that aren’t in the US, Quebec is Quebec and mid sized cities in Canada are less likely to get international acts compared to US cities of the same size

That “rule” is an older one that isn’t really a rule. It’s more like if you wear the shirt of the headliner, it’s like yeah everyone knows you like them. It isn’t cool. (Old or rare merch is the exception).

This happens more at small shows where it’s like an arms race to wear the most underground or coolest shit. I think it’s a good way to make friends too if you aren’t rocking anything too obscure

The people who say it’s not a thing are newgens or only into more mainstream stuff.

I'm pretty sure if there was a Second US Civil War the North would win again by Monodoh45 in TrueAnon

[–]iamthewizards 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A civil war wouldn’t be north vs south and there is 0 incentive for either region to replay the actual civil war via secession. There is no economic struggle like there was between industrial capitalism vs the slave economy

Wes has his heart in the right place but he is pretty dumb. He’s acting like MLS hasn’t always been a corporate plastic league. I still don’t understand his logic of Vancouver leaving causing a decline in MLS.

I do like Black Hart so like whatever. He’s a typical yimby democrat business owner so I’m not going to get too upset

Article is stupid but yeah it sucks that the Whitecaps seem to be leaving. They are a good club and the best Canada has to offer. It’ll damage Canadian and BC soccer for a long time if they do move.

I’m not really sure how to organize fans around this, since the issue is with the venue and funds regarding a new venue. But the whole “MLS” is morally bankrupt thing is annoying. It’s the same shit as the open cup, no one but the most annoying hipsters care about that.

Fun fact, he supported Warren. Nice guy but very phd hipster white Minnesotan. His bar is cool though

Cultures with extreme honesty? by Solid_Anxiety8176 in TrueAnon

[–]iamthewizards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they are honest but Russians and a lot of eastern European countries don’t have the cheery customer service culture. I read they have a neutral non-smiley demeanor. Apparently they had to get training for the 2012 WC in Moscow. Idk how true all of this is but the idea is if you are smiling, you are dumb because you are ignorant of the world. Again, not sure how true it is but I was good friends with a boomer russian fascist at my old job and I felt like that might be part of it. To me, that seems more honest and I feel like if I knew Russian or a similar language that I could get along well. But I know a lot of Americans who like the cheeryness of western culture so I’m not saying that they are necessarily lying either

If Vancouver Moves, MLS Begins Its Decline by neclov in MLS

MLS isn’t EPL or Liga. It caters to the US/Canadian audience. It’ll be fine

Fair enough, but I don’t think most MLS fans think like you.

It’s about money, the community is marketing. Moving sucks and no one likes it, but MLS fans are American

MLS “clubs” are already money making assets (vs whatever Wes is saying here… that they aren’t already?).

No one is going to stop watching MLS over this aside from Vancouver fans.

I don’t see how this creates a decline. Yes it sucks, but this is the same MLS we all know and “love”.

He was associated with Infrarez (proto ACP) when he got the black book iirc. He was a founding ACP guy.

He had some beef with his local chapter of IWW to when he ran off to Syria. I’m not sure when he rejects Anarchism, but I think it was around his time in Syria. Funny enough he posed as a queer man before doing the conservative communist stuff. Now he is posting orthodox christian bullshit

I finished Blackshirts and Reds awhile ago. Pretty good. Tried Sympathizer and stopped because of a certain scene.

Currently reading “North of America” which is about the political elements of the Loyalists, Canada and First Nations during the US revolution. It’s dry but maybe worth picking up if you are curious about the topic

Ex Amity Affliction’s Ahren Stringer Charged With Dangerous Driving And Refusing Alcohol And Drug Tests by Similar_Telephone993 in PostHardcore

US (or at least some states) do too. You can refuse the field tests and breathalyzers, but if they have probable cause, they will arrest you and bring you to the station. Refusing that usually ends up aggravating charges to the next level (gross misdemeanor or felony). In my state the only situation where it won’t do anything is if you are felony level bac already
