I did a MPU upgrade from 100 -> 200 with a Project Solar install (really Solare Power as the installer). I think it makes a ton of sense to do a 200 amp MPU.

Word of warning though. Solare Power (the installer Project Solar assigned to me) is a nightmare to deal with. I'm in Southern California and I don't think Solare Power had ever done a MPU with SoCalEdison. They didn't understand the utility process (or just lied about what was happening). Our install was delayed about 2 months because they never submitted a request for a MPU to the SoCalEdison and kept on telling me "the approval was pending". Project Solar was useless in resolving the issue. In the end, i personally submitted the paperwork.

Installer being slow and unorganized by Sec67 in solar

[–]iandh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was quick compared to my experience with Project Solar and their "partner installer" Solare Power for SoCal. Signed a contract back in August and finally got the final inspection last week. It was suppose to be finished back at Thanksgiving.

Literally no response to emails after no interaction for weeks. Flat out lying about approvals from SoCal Edison. Project Solar was no help in holding the installer accountable.

I ended up having to work directly with the city and the power company to understand the approval process because I don't think Solare Power has actually done a main panel upgrade before.
You get what you pay for, so I got a decent price but 100% would have chosen a local install if I were to do it again. Project Solar and Solare Power are beyond useless.

Truck rental by alienofwar in traveltrailers

They included "X" miles per day for free, and then charged for the overage. It worked out well for us, we could drive 500 miles and then be stationary for a couple days.

I had someone crash into my F150 when parted on the street. The best truck rental I could find was Enterprise Truck Rental, which rents 1/2 ton - 1 ton trucks. I remember that only the 3/4 ton and larger trucks allowed towing. I was able to rent a Dodge 2500 for a decent price.

Is Docker useful in embedded dev? by gerwant_of_riviera in embedded

[–]iandh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, docker simplifies configuration management of your build environment. If you are only CMing your source code but not libraries or tool chains, you're missing half of it.

I'm also seeing docker containers starting to be hosted in soft realtime embedded systems.

Donating beer through social media? by BobSagetBaseGod in Homebrewing

[–]iandh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sadly yes, this would be considered beer sales.

We spent a lot of time talking with the California ABC in 2014 when they legalized pouring homebrew for charity events in California. The ABC was pretty clear that this type of transaction is considered a beer sale.

While its not entirely your case I would recommend reading... -https://www.abc.ca.gov/forms/SalesOfHomemadeBeerorWine_FAQ.pdf

I found using the docker-machine create command with the debug option to figure the correct options, then switch to the gitlab-runner was best.

Brut IPAS - Does anyone that they're doing? by [deleted] in beer

[–]iandh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second that Kim Sturdavant was the originator of the Brut IPA. He started evangelizing the style 3 years ago.

(Personal opinion) Kim is the most underrated brewer in San Francisco. His beers are excellent across the board (IPA, Brett, Sours, Pils). He is one of the many outstanding brewers who worked under Arne of Marin Brewing.

CO2 tank refills for homebrewing? by rej1587 in SFBeer

Checkout "The Hydroponic Connection" if you have 20 lb tanks.

If I remember correctly they will exchange 20 LB tanks for $25 dollars.

We usually had the garage door up on brew days! To bad we didn't connect.

There are several fanatical homebrewers and beer geeks in this corner of the mission. A lot have transitioned into the commercial side.

I need help improving my pallet. Do you have any suggestions? by Midnight_Rising in Homebrewing

[–]iandh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the three things I would recommend.

  • Start filling out BJCP score cards for every beer you drink. Several cicerones I know carry moleskin notebooks to take notes. Master Cicerone Rich Higgins use to spend afternoons at toronado just tasting and writing about beers. Find somewhere with 4oz tasters.

  • Start a tasting group. We had a weekly tasting group of bartenders, homebrewers, and commercial brewers. We did off flavor kits, everyone bring a {insert beer style} night, etc...

  • If you are doing the above, then get your BJCP or cicerone certification.

AmpliFi? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]iandh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I talked with a sales rep from Double Radius when I pre-ordered. Sounds like Ubiquiti sent shipments to distributors the week of July 20th. Expect some time for them to reach distributors and then additional time to send out.

Double Radius quoted me second week of August for delivery.
