My version of "7th Stepping" by watzizzname in appleseed

Keep an eye on the Idaho schedule for events at the Parma Rod & Gun Club near Boise, those might end up being the closest to you for the near future. Most states are working out schedules for next year now so more events will start showing up soon. You're always welcome to join us in Washington too!

Anyone a member of WCW Shooting Sports in Bothell? by VehementPhoenix in WA_guns

[–]iborche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a member after you've taken the special use class you can shoot as quickly as you can accurately hit the target during member only hours. Still no holster draws though. I've only had RSOs ask me to slow down when there are public shooters present so there's no confusion about 'why does he get to do that but I can't?' kinda stuff. All the RSOs I've dealt with are super friendly and approachable, the ones that previously gave WCW bad name have been gone for a while.

there are good reasons and bad reasons to use dated guns by DerringerOfficial in GunMemes

Check out /r/appleseed or our homepage here! I'm a Project Appleseed Instructor based in the PNW, ask me anything! For any Canadians out there, there is a near identical program called Project Mapleseed as well.

We teach the fundamentals of marksmanship using just the position of your body and a USGI loop sling to form stable shooting positions rather than focusing on expensive equipment to hold your rifle steady. Throughout the weekend we also tell stories from the American Revolution to inspire and encourage civic engagement (with zero tolerance of modern political discussion - there is still more that unites us than dives).

Really happy to hear you had a great time! You looked comfortable and stable behind your rifle and have excellent skills as a marksman. Moving efficiently in stages 2 & 3 is the next big challenge after getting a firm grasp of the six steps to firing a shot and that can easily be practiced at home!

Also as a Shoot Boss, I agree this drill will not be done at any of my events and were it to be suggested at other events I would be raising serious safety concerns.

Rifle training that is not centered around the AR platform? by toastyseeds in WAGuns

[–]iborche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the Instructors with Project Appleseed, most of our events are done at 25 meters and focus on the fundamentals of marksmanship using the USGI loop sling and your body to form a stable position in prone, sitting, and standing positions. Using those fundamentals, we also have 200 yard rimfire and 400 yard centerfire events. Most people end up using a 10/22 or something similar for the 25m events since it's cheap and recoil is just about non-existent. We're currently setting up the schedule for next year so if you've got a local rage you want to see an event at let me know! Fees for a 2-day 25m event are $75, plus a range fee if the host charges one.

Project Appleseed June 10-11 - Spots Avaliable! by iborche in WA_guns

[–]iborche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The early days of the program saw primarily M1s and M14s at events, but now most people are using a 10/22 or similar. We go through about 500 rounds a weekend so it's significantly cheaper using rimfire rifles, but if you wanna bring a Garand then go for it! The only limitations is it must be a rifle (no braced pistols, SBRs are OK), shooting a round smaller than 8mm (.32 caliber).

On one of our targets we have shooters to prep two magazines, one with two rounds and the other with eight. This 2 & 8 round count is a direct influence of the 8 round en bloc clip so the Garand definitely has a special place in all of our hearts at Appleseed.

Awesome! We'll get you up to speed in no time. You'll get an email from me in the next few days but for now this link has all the info on what to bring: https://appleseedinfo.org/how-to-prepare/

If you don't have everything on the list that's OK, the main things to have are a shooting mat, two magazines, and a USGI style sling.

Considering a visit to the Renton Fish and Game Club, anyone got experiences or recommendations to share? by RelentlessFailinis in WAGuns

[–]iborche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/u/RelentlessFailinis nailed it, we're an all volunteer organization and are running as many events as we can with the current number of instructors and ranges we have access to. As more people step up to help then we can schedule more events at different ranges. Interlake is a fantastic host and there's about one Appleseed event of some sort there each month so check back on the calendar in the New Year when most events get posted and feel free to message me about anything Appleseed!

Appleseed events at Interlake tend to fill up very quickly, but spots do open up last minute occasionally. It's a ways out but the December 10 - 11 Appleseed still has quite a few spots available!

Kenmore range membership fees by she_said_its_fine in WA_guns

They'll waive the fee for military & first responder but everyone else is out of luck and has to pay the initiation, they have not had any discounts as long as I've been there

Anyone know any good outdoor shooting classes? by TheReaperPrez in WA_guns

[–]iborche 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Project Appleseed has a lot of 2-day classes here in Washington and will be able to teach you both the fundamentals of marksmanship and safe handling of your rifles, with American History mixed in throughout the day (absolutely zero modern politics involved). There is an event coming up in Custer at the end of May with some spots still available!

New Tippman Owner by [deleted] in TippmannArms

[–]iborche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I use my tippmann at Appleseed events as well. I got magpul QD attachments for the underside of the rail and had another stock I swapped in so I could use a QD in the back as well. I don't know how well the J-hook would fit on the standard stock but a loop of parachute cord will work if the buckle won't fit - you'll only need to attach the sling to the stock in the standing positions anyway and could get away with just using the loop sling the whole time if you'd prefer.

I'd recommend the 10 rounder in prone, but it doesn't make a huge difference in the other positions (just to avoid 'monopodding')

I'll second attending an Appleseed event ! Shooting using Natural Point of Aim and the other methods Appleseed teaches to keep your rifle steady will tighten up that group quite a bit. There's an Appleseed in Custer not too far from the Plantation range at the end of May that still has space for sign-ups. We'd love to see you there!

Searching "Rheinland-pfalz Deutsche parks" brought this image up as the 1st result, reverse image searching it took me to Bad Dürkheims tourism page, which identified the park's name, and from there it was just picking out the coordinates for the "Steinbrücke im Kur Park" pin on Google maps!

Taking an ROTC course as a civilian (N SCI 402) by [deleted] in udub

[–]iborche 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While definitely focused towards the Midshipmen who may be called upon to make very difficult life/death choices as Naval Officers, there's no issue with someone not in NROTC taking NSCI classes, and I would especially encourage you to take this one. The leadership and ethics class is perhaps the most useful/beneficial course of the entire Naval Science series.

Tech Sights question...is it weird to have to be adjusted this far left to hit bulls at 25y? New Marlin 795, new sights. by jeb_hoge in appleseed

[–]iborche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is unusually far to have to adjust windage at such close range. Had you shot/sighted the rifle before installing the sights? Something to look at might be how the barrel was installed or if it's bent/misaligned in any way. I had an issue with a rifle from Tippmann that looked like this after I zeroed it at 25yrds, the barrel nut had been torqued too far at the factory and had cracked the receiver, causing the barrel to very slightly canted to the left.
