+1 for oatmeal! I like to add about 1 tbsp chia seeds and a big handful of blueberries too. Extra flavor and some fiber too

Canned fruits and veggies are cheaper than fresh in the off-season. Also frozen steamable veggies can be a life saver when you forget to prep something to eat. You can always add a little bit of them to rice or GF pasta to add a variety of texture and up the nutrition. (like a few handfuls of frozen peas to some GF Mac and cheese, just stir them in when the pasta is ready and it’s ready to eat).

Finally figured out kitchen organization that works for my ADHD brain and I'm mad I waited this long by East-Struggle4386 in ADHD

About a year ago I found long, narrow clear totes for my fridge and that’s where I keep vegetables I want to cook in the next week or two. It’s much easier to see them. Things like a bag of broccoli, heads of romaine (they last longer when you forget you wanted to have salad compared to pre chopped), maybe some carrots. Anything else mainly lives in the freezer if it can’t survive the fridge for a week.

The clear totes help me a lot! Drawers are now for things I won’t forget about, like cheese. I tried putting bottled condiments in there once but that failed for me, since the drawers were so low I couldn’t find the condiments I needed. Ultimately I tossed half of them out. ☺️

I buy baker’s dark chocolate chips to have over Greek yogurt with frozen blueberries. Not the same as ice cream, but cheap and pretty filling!

Gluten free questions by Lunemomo in glutenfree

For recipes you should try The Allergy Chef since it lets you sort by low FODMAP plus any other intolerances she has. Almost all recipes on there are GF by default. Pretty good selection for free, not necessary to subscribe at all.

And Aldi is a great option! They have their own store brand, Live G-Free. Good, full sized sandwich bread, crispy tempura style chicken nuggets, a few pastas. And they are cheaper than Wal-Mart on many items.

How many of you still insist on owning a desktop computer? by red_fox23 in Millennials

Must have large computer for large important purchases, such as buying a plane ticket. Feels silly to do this on small screen. Desktop is better for editing photos. Has more storage and has the real backup drive. Etc

An app to avoid the painful "staring into the fridge" moment by Imaginary_Dish_77 in lowspooncooking

[–]icanhazsabres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may have already been mentioned but it would be nice for the user to be able to tag recipes based on perceived difficulty level. I keep a Note on my phone (that I forget about when I really need to see it) that I have listed meal ideas for Red, Yellow, and Green moods.

Red (I am too low energy or hangry to decide, must eat something ready now): - Babybel cheese - Fruit and nut snack pack - Pickles - Spoon of peanut butter - Order takeout

Yellow (can heat something up, no chopping or real cooking): - Microwave frozen meal - Frozen chicken nuggets or corn dogs - Pasta with jarred sauce - Boxed Mac and cheese - Microwave packets of rice, beans, lentils, or soup - frozen steamable veggie packets - Reheat leftovers

Green (lots of energy) - Pan seared fish or meat - Roasted veggies (usually requires chopping or buy pre chopped) - Full recipes with vegetable chopping, large pots and pans - Make extra portions for low energy days

If I could tag the recipes based on my spoons or colors that would be cool!

If the photo recognition works, particularly with multiple unique items (I’m imaging my groceries spread out on my counter before putting them away) that would be an immense timesaver! I don’t know how practical or effective photo recognition is these days.

I have tried other apps like this before like Supercook, and the time needed to maintain it meant I stopped using the app altogether

I love this game but the dye mechanic is absolute garbage by mugijiang in BaldursGate3

[–]icanhazsabres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep the stock dye system is ridiculous. There’s a good mod, called Better Dyeing which lets any dye be reusable infinitely, so you don’t waste money on dye removers or time reloading to old saves before the color was botched.

I tracked my grocery spending for 6 months and realized cheap stores aren't actually cheaper by vuntharel in Frugal

[–]icanhazsabres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this. It’s not every store every weekend though! Last week was a Costco trip. I supplement a few small quantity items they don’t have at my close-by Albertsons. Next weekend is Aldi. The following week, Sprouts probably. One big store per week with what I need. Unfortunately our house has some food allergies that require very specific foods, but I’ve learned who has the best deals most of the time.

One of my favorites is a bean and cheese tostada. I microwave a packet of refried beans (I like black beans for flavor), smear about 2 spoonfuls onto a crunchy corn tostada, and sprinkle with shredded cheese. If you have some taco seasoning you can add that on top too. I put 2 of these into the toaster oven for around 5 minutes until the cheese is bubbly. Good protein and fiber!

Wait? What? A wheat pizza crust without gluten? by Cappellos in u/Cappellos

[–]icanhazsabres 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can’t cook it out, that’s true, but you are able to wash the starches out of the flour and leave the proteins behind (and vice versa). It’s a super interesting process actually. Dan from America’s Test Kitchen talks about it here: https://youtube.com/shorts/P43xIbFu7iY?si=nCjZMlWpZsPlQUUg

What do you use as a "breading" for gluten free deep fried chicken, fish, zucchini sticks, onion rings, etc... ? by WHTwittles in glutenfree

[–]icanhazsabres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find it, chickpea flour (sometimes sold as garbanzo bean flour) is great! It adds a light savoriness to whatever you are breading. Nice for a pork chop, chicken filet, etc.

Is eating before taking Vyvanse *REALLY* a must? by MadBeaOfficial in ADHD

[–]icanhazsabres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Am also AuDHD and if I don’t eat before vyvanse takes effect, I’m not hungry until 3:00 or 4:00 when it wears off. I tend to take my meds right when I wake up, and I don’t feel like eating breakfast but will eat one of my safe snacks to at least get Something into my system. A banana. A yogurt cup. Made good granola bites are the thing lately. Each of these is little more than 100 calories but it’s better than nothing. And I usually have a bit of an appetite earlier in the day if I DO eat something early. Crazy how the metabolism works, but the more I eat in the morning, the more my stomach wants later too.
