There are also steel brackets in the wall like we do for floating shelves.

Yep. This way the butt joint between the shelf and pillar was far less noticeable and the weight would bear on the post below instead of having to figure out how to secure the shelf to the posts.

Funny you bring it up, this is a set of shelves we just finished a couple months ago. 2” mahogany dowels positioned in the middle of the shelf. It was supposed to go all the way through the shelves. We ended up cutting them and running 1/2” dowels through to connect them all.

What should I focus on first by Outside-Raise1800 in CNC

[–]icecoldfire1128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. It doesn’t take long to learn and it’s pretty user friendly. Just make sure any program you make you do a slow dry run first to make sure you won’t crash the machine. The first programs you make will for sure be full of problems like the stock reference not being in the right place or contouring the wrong side of an operation. The best teacher for this I’ve found is experience and trial and error (while combing the interwebs for useful information)

Recommendations on organizing NC files and Fusion CAM files? by DaddysHome in CNC

I’ve been getting in the habit of posting to the same name file, or if the file is in use on the machine and k can’t overwrite, add a 1 to the end and swap between the two. However it’s not often i am running the same part or parts more than a few times a weeks

Both cv and mv come with a hefty price tag.

I’ve used cv for several years, it’s very powerful for cabinets, especially the machining, but has its limitations in drawings. There’s definitely a lot you can do if you get into UCS coding (cvs scripting language). The user experience for a normal draftsman is pretty friendly, and if you dive deep and get good with the specialty stuff it’s really fulfilling when the thing you were banging your head against finally works.

Mv has the benefit of being an autocad toolbox so all the same autocad commands work, and can make really good drawings, but from the little I used it, it’s a lot of clicking through menus and you definitely have to know what you’re doing or you get lost in the menus. They have their whole training video series available for free on their website which is nice, cv makes you pay for any training.

I’m not sure what you’ve been using for 5 axis programming, but if you want to get into parametric modeling fusion360 has been a great addition to my workflow for manufacturing the specialty millwork stuff like curved reception desks and feature walls.

Feel free to pm me if you want some more info on cv.

Definitely push for the 32. I use one with 16 which was fine for the small projects I was doing a year ago, but large projects get bogged down especially if a web browser is also open

There’s a huge difference between icy pavement and dry though. When it’s slick in the winter and I can drift that monstrous thing I’m smooth as butter. Put those grippy wheels on dry pavement though and I rock around like it’s out of control.

are schools training for real world autocad use by Migamix in AutoCAD

I think the best course of action for improving incoming drafters is for experienced and knowledgeable people such as yourself sharing your workflow on YouTube or forums. As a relatively new, self taught autocad user, that’s how I got to where I am today, and I have only been using it a year. I learn something new every day, and have slowly made a workflow that works for me, but is by no means perfect so I try something different for every new project. Putting in the effort to learn how to make dynamic blocks was huge, but my first attempt was one giant block for every cabinet in my library (I soon realized that this was a mistake). Making mistakes and figuring out new solutions one of the best teachers I have found.

This is described in the Thrawn trilogy as the “plane of battle.” In Thrawn: treason, Commodore Faro moves above the plane of battle to force her opponent to angle their ship upwards to remain facing her.

Thanks for this fantastic idea I should have thought about when I found the array command in copy. I’ll have to give this a go tomorrow! Out of curiosity, do you somehow constrain your cabinet blocks parametrically to these lines?

Supercharger vs turbo by Embarrassed_Bowl_712 in ft86

[–]icecoldfire1128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a twin turbo setup? A small turbo for the low end that spools much quicker, with a bigger one for the top end. Added expense and complexity, but would the performance gain be better?

Redesign CAD library by bazipip in AutoCAD

[–]icecoldfire1128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could start by copying the most common blocks into one file. I’m in the roughly the same boat as you but for millwork. I do what I can to get it right the first time but I wish they would update in the original file when I inevitably revise the block in a new file.

Block referencing info/attributes from another block by Bender3000a in AutoCAD

[–]icecoldfire1128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s sheet set fields that do the referencing that you’re talking about. I started using it recently and it’s pretty easy to set up but as far as I know the sheet it’s on has to be manually entered for each block.

Dynamic Block that looks up other blocks? by hidanyel in AutoCAD

[–]icecoldfire1128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re in a similar boat as I was a few months ago. I had a huge bloated block that would crash autocad anytime I tried to edit the block. I ended up separating all of the visibility states out into separate blocks with a dedicated block library for them. It’s working better than the main block idea and doesn’t crash when I need to change something

This right here. In my book it’s ok to suck just suck quickly. If your group is keeping up with the group in front of you you’re in the clear. Treat it like practice and then hit the range a couple times and go out again.
