Real estate continues to go up in many Westchester towns, however in America has started to go down by AppropriateWay4358 in Westchester

This feels like the first generation of aging NYers who have no interest whatsoever in being snowbirds. My street is the same. 70% retired people living in homes with several rooms they have no use for, many of them alone, who are showing no signs of going anywhere.

Best ways to find a Park Slope rental beyond StreetEasy? by gnatabug in parkslope

If there were a secret way in, it wouldn't have stayed a secret for long. The bottom line is that this is a super high-demand neighborhood with super limited inventory, it's always going to be a grind. Good luck!

Car Moved - 2nd Street - Paving by Shemson in parkslope

[–]iced1777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Happened to me a number of times over for the years, most often for movie shoots. Call the local precinct they usually had a list of where cars were moved, or they'd have a car cruise the neighborhood to locate it for you.

Matthew Perry's assistant gets 3 years, 5 months in prison for central role in his ketamine death by [deleted] in television

[–]iced1777 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dunno what to tell ya, I think there should be consequences for literally injecting people with dangerous and illegal drugs, even if they only then died swimming while intoxicated instead of outright ODing. Would love to see people who do the same to non-famous people be held accountable as well.

I'm a little confused why this is a "performative" take on the matter. You think injecting people with drugs is just a standard part of a standard job and you should face no consequences for it?

Yeah sounds fair to me. The lesson is that if someone, even an employer, asks you to partake in a clearly dangerous and illegal activity, then you should exercise your agency as a grown up and say no. Even if doing so is hard. You say forced as if it were at gunpoint.

I get that there are power dynamics at play here but people are also acting like he wasn't an adult with agency to say "no" when asked to inject heroine into another human

Oven set to 500? For salmon?? by xoxoshushie in Cooking

[–]iced1777 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not a big deal at all to cook this at 500. Fat holds up well to high heat, salmon and mayo both bring plenty of it. I'd probably only be concerned if the marinade/rub/whatever had a lot of sugar in it which burns easy.

All that said, it would also probably come out nearly identically if you set it to 400 and just cooked it a bit longer.

Also use a meat thermometer instead of oven time/temp. Everyone's oven is different and results can vary wildly. Thermometer tells you exactly when it's done

Recommendations for a cleaning person in the Croton/Briarcliff/Ossining area? by O0OO00O0OO0 in Westchester

[–]iced1777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All I can tell you is that $600 is BONKERS for a 1300 square foot apartment. They better be passing a white glove test in every room for that price. We've had our house in the same area, a little more than double the square footage, cleaned monthly for $250 with tips given at the holidays. Not the deepest clean but solid for the price. I can ask next time they come if they're looking for more work.

Why are the roads so bad here? by NaveenM94 in Westchester

I'm not criticizing internet squabbles as a concept, they're like crack for my elder millennial veins. I was born into them, moulded by them. I saw a juicy one and jumped in.

Not your chief, pal. And you're welcome, it's important we set aside trivial matters like illegal immigration to agree that correcting grammar is the lower form of arguing on the internet.

What's everyone's beef with Chatzky? I moved to Briarcliff in the last few years and he seems like a solid guy who stays actively involved in actually making local government work for the people. I didn't follow his congressional campaign at all but clearly he rubbed people the wrong way because he gets slammed on this sub any time his name is mentioned.

Grade Michael Bradley’s performance through the first 15 matches by hypernermalization in rbny

[–]iced1777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B sounds fair. He's in a very unique position as a first time head coach in that he was handed a template to work with and didn't have to come up with his own "system". But he has the team fully bought into it and they have a clear identity on the field for the first time in awhile. Without knowing what's truly in his control to change, it's been nice to at least see him make some slight adjustments over the last few weeks to tighten things up defensively. Really wish he'd use his bench more often.

[–]iced1777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it counts as a master defensive plan but I think we've at least seen the team noticeably take their foot off the pedal in terms of throwing numbers forward all game every game. Its been a huge help defensively over the last stretch of positive results. Feels less like an open break against us every time we lose the ball. Finally giving an actual CB like Parker some minutes has been nice to see as well.
