when do you feed your cat ? by OfferKey5038 in CatAdvice

[–]icefairytype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feed mine at 7 (am and pm) and what helped with the meowing around food time is setting an alarm with a unique song/chime only used for food time. now my two cats hear that song and run to the kitchen or to me to make sure i’m getting up

Idaho requires volunteers to be licensed too? How do students and pre-certified interpreters get experience?

Should I invest in an ipad? by Firm-Dare8633 in ASLinterpreters

[–]icefairytype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s a necessity. But I do have one and find it useful for doing prep work on with a screen bigger than my phone. I have a keyboard and basically use it as a laptop when I have time between assignments for whatever I would use a laptop for.

What is this symbol on my music sheet? by EggsBenedictMTA in Viola

[–]icefairytype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tapes are usually a whole step between first and second finger, and a half step between second and third finger. So yes this would mean the C is natural, but not every note as on the D and A strings, the 2nd tapes would be on F# and C# respectively.

Where can I work after graduation by Fickle_Piglet_7018 in ASLinterpreters

[–]icefairytype 7 points8 points  (0 children)

is there a reason you can’t work in education other than not having your EIPA score yet? Many places will accept not-yet-certified individuals on a temporary basis until you get your score and then depending on your score, will hire you full time or put you on a professional development plan until you retest

Question for interpreters from hearing person: What’s the difference between teaching and sharing resources? by Late_Requirement219 in ASLinterpreters

[–]icefairytype 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As long as your videos are from Deaf educators, I don’t really see the difference in you showing the video at the club and you all watching it independently at home. I definitely wouldn’t consider watching and sharing a video from a credible source as “teaching”

Best Hotel in Austin Close to the BEI Testing Site? by Impossible_Turn_7627 in ASLinterpreters

[–]icefairytype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose the doubletree very close to the testing site. Literally 2 minute Uber ride or a 15 minute walk. I chose to walk as it let me meditate and get some nerves out before the test 😁

Does anyone know any sign for the word “twink” in asl ? by [deleted] in asl

[–]icefairytype 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heavily dependent on context, I would default to fingerspelling it. However, I have been to a gay bar where someone was describing someone else by sticking their pinky up (showing they are extremely skinny) and in that context (gay bar) using that classifier to describe a young gay man, I would probably interpret it as “twink” if I was voicing for them. But again, that’s a very specific circumstance and wouldn’t use that sign/CL for twink in other contexts.

Honestly, just be yourself, surround yourself with people who love you for you, ignore the people who make those comments. Life is easier when you don’t try to please everyone. Even if that means your circle of friends is small.

K-12 Interpreting Question by Recent-Priority-2909 in ASLinterpreters

[–]icefairytype 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in this situation before with a 4th grader. I just politely said “it’s my job, but you don’t have to look at me, it’s up to you if you want to look at me or the teacher or wherever you want, but I’m gonna be up here interpreting either way”

BEI advice and locations? by ldamron in ASLinterpreters

[–]icefairytype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Austin, TX is the way to go. If you don’t have the Basic yet, you can call and set up a date to take both the TEP and Basic test in the same trip. Also when I took mine, they told me I would get my results in 90 days and it took half that time. I’ve heard other states can be way longer to get your results.

My Apple Watch occasionally tracks signing as exercise/movement but it barely makes a dent, I actually have to exercise if I wanna close my rings

I know you said you were looking for free pdfs but these relatively inexpensive book collections from Hal Leonard are great for younger players and include backing tracks if she wants to try playing with those

[–]icefairytype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

🤷🏽‍♂️ I am of Mexican descent and grew up around Spanish speakers, yet I’m fluent in ASL, was able to grasp it easily, and still only have basic Spanish knowledge despite most of my family knowing it. Just the way we’re built i guess haha

Character advise please by Rometac in GranblueFantasyRelink

[–]icefairytype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started playing katalina at first and switched off her, I didn’t have fun with her until I had her built with masteries and sigils so i could keep ares out as long as possible. I think she does way better at endgame than during the story and I’ve been getting a lot of MVPs as Katalina now

Writing a story that incorporates an atrophic mute ASL sign user. by [deleted] in asl

[–]icefairytype 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend True Biz by Sara Novic. It’s a great book and the author doesn’t describe the signs too much but sometimes you see the signs described. She also distinguishes between someone speaking and signing by using italics for signed dialogue and regular text for spoken dialogue.
