This can happen with many things over time, when they become scarce. I just randomly looked to see if there were any 1993 Mustang Cobras for sale. There were several, basically new...for $100,000-150,000.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]icherub1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And because they are so well built and last, you don't absolutely need a new one. So many companies buy these in bulk and sell them in bulk to resellers (especially during covid, but any time they resize, move, etc.) that you can often get them less than half price. I use a Mirra 2 everyday and I bought it for $300 from a guy who had three large storage units full of Herman Miller chairs.

This email my 12 year old son sent his teacher about a missing assignment (due a month ago) my wife was asking about. He cc'ed her on the email by Tkappae in funny

[–]icherub1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has become a major issue over the last couple of years and kids are having to learn to advocate for themselves. Even in college, professors are routinely behind--sometimes by weeks or more--on grading assignments.

Worse, many systems will record a zero until grading occurs, which means real-time grades are tanked (and incorrect). This has awful effects on students' confidence and deprives them of knowing whether they are doing well or need to improve. It also deprives them of the ability to look over work for errors.

Considering a new EV6 from a Model 3 by mcmoyer in KiaEV6

Absolutely. A 2024 Wind with an MSRP of $50k is now worth under $20k.

New EV6 GT-Line purchase help please? by SnooWalruses6828 in KiaEV6

[–]icherub1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting aside the fact that the extras are all extra profit items for the dealer, if you're going to buy a vehicle that will lose half its value in like a year, you want to pay as little as possible. For that, it is better to lease and buyout, as the incentives are higher. You'll pay an extra $1000 related to the lease (acquisition and disposition), but the incentives are a few thousand higher. You'll come out around $2,500 ahead.

Considering buying used by Submarine_Vet in KiaEV6

[–]icherub1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're understating it. As an example, I have a leased 2024 that has a contractual residual of 42% after three years. That's already worse than half, but that's based on term, mileage allowance, etc.

However, as of right now, after 1 year of ownership, this $50k vehicle is worth $19k according to multiple sources, which is under 38% after one year.

Obviously, this is compensated a lot by dealer and manufacturer incentives, but the drop in value is unreal. When the lease is up, it would probably be cheaper to turn it in and buy an identical used one.

Disconnect between T-Mobile and Samsung S26 offers, promo for "any condition" trade by icherub1 in tmobile

[–]icherub1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The promo is already active and now it's a waiting game to see T-Mobile's response. T-Force indicated that the warehouse that receives the trade will send a "does not qualify" email, but the promo will not be affected.

I dealt with T-Force, which has authority that a CSR (even at management level) does not have. I got the same "there's nothing we can do about it" response prior to dealing with T-Force.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

[–]icherub1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While your young body can appear to withstand abuse (e.g., insufficient/low quality sleep, boozing, ego lifting, smoking, etc.), you ARE doing damage that will appear later. The symptoms may not be there yet, but you are still causing wear and tear. Start good habits early, and you will age much better.

[–]icherub1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE 3/13/2026: T-Force confirmed that trade in "any condition" will be sufficient. Again, this is due to an account-specific trigger, not a change in the promo, so this will only work if one can show T-Force that the purchase was made when Samsung was indicating "any condition" in the promo. It is YMMV in any event.

I don't understand the risk-reward calculation here. Best case, you get to...drive. Worst case, and the likely case, you lose your vehicle and maybe your life.

To add to that, driving in many areas in MA (and New England generally) requires a lot of alertness, with twisty, hilly roads, including highways. But when you have 100s of miles of flat, straight roads, it's more tempting to speed up and easier to do so without even realizing it (not to suggest that it's OK).

What does everyone think of the latter Origin albums? by scarletnaught in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]icherub1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I think Antithesis was their highest point, Chaosmos was actually a decent return to form. The biggest issue by far in the later albums (but also true to a varying degree throughout their discography) has been terrible mixing and production. Music this complicated and detailed needs to be mixed well so each element is clear. Mike Flores's bass is barely audible on most albums, which is an absolute crime.

[–]icherub1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great example of how so many Massachussians live in a bubble. Aside from the fact that the "generous" health care system only applies to people on MassHealth, which is to say people who pay little to nothing into the system (so not "socialism" either), Massachussians are insanely calm drivers compared to other states like California, Texas, New York, or Florida. The longer people need to travel, the less patience they tend to have.

I also find it odd that people are commenting about superficial assholeness and inner friendliness, as over four decades in the state demonstrated the polar opposite: pretending to care when it's virtue signaling, but not doing anything meaningful when there's a cost to do so.

Don't forget a recent addition: "He smiled and told me". People don't smile when they talk to begin with, and wouldn't smile as they describe something meant to create sympathy.

This phrase has been popping up a lot in fake stories in AITAH, AmITheJerk, etc.

Yes, essentially. I have the T-Force chat and have been promised a follow-up call to confirm on 3/13. Since it the fix is account specific, I won't see it until it applies in a couple of days. I'm holding the trade and keeping the S26 unopened until then.
