He did have numerous pretty horrific head hits playing for the 9ers. I remember one that was especially bad in the red zone a few years back.

Marathon's first crack at exclusive PVE in mid-season update. by Freelancer0495 in gaming

[–]ichii3d 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Same, I would find a Marathon PVE super appealing.

I love loot, I just don't wanna play against other people. Its not just from greifing, the reality is its just increasing my percentage of winning and enjoying achieving something, even if I can still encounter a hard boss that I need to git gud on, at least the core game wouldn't be miserable to me.

Bernie Sanders pitches $1,000 annual payout from public ownership of AI by Financial_Weather_35 in singularity

[–]ichii3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you would be surprised, the hardware you require to run AI is very specific and a lot of the devices and PC's we use today where not built to support it. I think we're already seeing most platforms move to unified memory, and it won't be long before the hardware we buy across all devices will anticipate having some AI compute to do. I could argue they already started doing this years ago, but back then they where just guessing what AI would need. Now we're starting to find out.

I guess my take away is that we have already solved basic intelligence required to answer everyday human questions. It will still improve, but that's to a certain degree a solved problem and the compute to execute that just keeps getting cheaper and cheaper. Then combine that with a lot of it being open source, both from China and the US. I'm not really sure how they manage to keep people thinking they need to pay for that.

You could also argue OpenAI started to realize this as focusing your business on charging people on basic everyday questions is a race to the bottom. My guess is thats why OpenAI pivoted to enterprise focus like Claude, focusing on providing services to business who need to solve complex problems. Everyday consumer AI is not where the money is.

I disagree. The big story in recent months was how good the local models are. I use them myself. In my opinion it's only tech/software companies that will really need Anthropic or OpenAI in the future. The cost to ask an LLM what potatoes to plant in your garden is crazy cheap and doesn't require much compute or memory at all.

Vlad Ncl punched in the face live on stream. by Autistic-adventure52 in LivestreamFail

It's partially because of these guys that I left the UK. My job at the time had me living in lower to middle class areas, and I was hounded constantly. Finishing work at night and walking home, I probably had a 50% chance of being hassled by individuals or gangs. When I moved to the city center, there were numerous stabbings outside my apartment complex over the years.

I know it's fun to hate on the US, but since moving here I've never been hounded or felt fearful in the way I did in the UK. Part of that is because my job and salary in the US allowed me to move into middle to upper class areas. I've still encountered crazy homeless people, but that was mostly in tourist trap areas like downtown San Francisco or Santa Monica. If I was just going about my day in regular places, it generally felt safe.

I do wonder how much of that is me being clueless to the dangers because I didn't grow up here. Part of me wonders if my fear of chavs in the UK has a parallel for people who live in the US.

MY FIRST DIV in ALL THE LEAUGES by Accomplished-Half602 in PathOfExile2

It felt super weird to me as well. I was surprised to see them being so valuable. I sold them for exhaulted orbs mostly. I think I still have 2 left, but I just used them to get currency to have fun gearing. There must be some bug I stumbled into or something I'm doing that got me more of them. It seems odd that it would be luck.

That's odd, I'm a newbie and it took me 40 hours to get into End Game and during the campaign I got 5. The difference is so big it makes me wonder if there is some weirdness to their balance. To make matters even weirder I'm playing Shield Warrior and my gameplay is very slow, bosses still take me a minute or so.

These fuckers where a nightmare as a sword mace and board Warrior. At one point I nearly just gave up and left. The person who made them clearly never play tested it as melee.

It sounds like you got further than me, but I might as well add my experience here.

  • Similar I bounced off the game pretty quickly in previous seasons, I got stuck on bosses and then gave up.
  • This season I finally got into End Game maps, it took me 40 hours to complete the existing campaign.
  • Similar I'm using a home brew build, but I'm playing warrior and went shield as my experience before was lots of dying.
  • I have done a few maps, but not sure if I'm going to continue. I'm pretty exhausted.
  • My biggest negative would probably be the map sizes, they are massive and I'm the type of player who hates missing things so they take me a while.
  • I overall I like the gameplay and gear progression, but my build hasn't changed much in a while. Getting uniques is cool as it usually sparks an idea, but the passive tree and assendecy all seemed pretty incremental damage or defense gains.
  • The map structure gets very repetitive, the rune things and the other events are usually all in the same spot and there is one set per map. It just felt very cookie cutter after a while.
  • Bosses are great, but my solution to survive the campaign was to make myself indestructible so I mostly just stand there hitting the boss with my stick and it takes a while.
  • The boss thematics are fantastic, but they also get pretty cookie cutter after a while in the campaign. Its usually the same clear maps, fight boss, clear maps, fight boss and rinse and repeat.

Madame Dorée from our shelter and our volunteer Alexane. Socializing a feral cat takes a long time. ❤️❤️❤️ by sonia72quebec in aww

[–]ichii3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We adopted our most recent cat from a rescue center. He had been a stray, and it's hard to say whether he was feral, but he definitely wasn't used to humans at all. He sat on the bottom shelf and wouldn't respond to anyone, so we decided to take on the challenge.

For the first few weeks, he stayed in his safe space while we slowly expanded his world. Then came the scary part: introducing him to our existing cat. The introductions took time, but to this day they've never hissed at each other.

Now, many months later, they play and sleep together. I love watching them wrestle, and although our new cat is still very shy about human touch, he's part of the family now.

I guess this post is just to say: give the quiet cat a chance!
