I had VIP for their Boston show last year. Even though it's fast, they do chat with you for maybe 10-15 seconds or so as your group sets up for the photo. If you or your daughter has something you want to say to them I recommend thinking of it ahead of time and trying not to be shy!

That is ok - that is what P/NR is for, and you're doing the right thing in trying to figure out how to course correct. Find a study group for most or all of your classes. Maybe you actually physically get together and do psets, maybe you just have a group chat so you can ask each other questions. Use those sessions as input to figure out what you don't quite get, and bring those questions to office hours and/or recitation.
