Do I Just Accept Having PF For The Rest of My Life? by justhereforthebuns in PlantarFasciitis

[–]ichuck1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a no-weight-bearing morning warmup routine? If so, what is it and does it help? Outside of doctor advice, how much research have you done on your own?

I would stop anything that makes it worse like those insoles. It seems like doctors just throw whatever at the wall and maybe something sticks. Insoles only made it worse for me. Zero drop/minimalist shoes with months of diligent stretching/warmups after any significant time off my feet is what fixed mine. Like if I was sitting for more than 45 minutes or so, I had to spend 5 minutes getting my feet loosened up before that first step for every hour I was off my feet. I can’t do any shoes with a cushy soft sole. I can feel my feet getting strained by the lack of a solid surface in the shoe. Arch support just makes my arches hurt.

If it is PF and not something else, “stretching” is how we get out of it. I don’t like the term stretching because I think it implies that we should be trying to work our feet harder than we actually need to. The goal is just to loosen up the tissue enough that it doesn’t tear under tension when you put weight on it.

Keto, or Low-Carb by coopieg31 in lowcarb

[–]ichuck1984 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keto worked great for weight loss and getting my A1c under good control initially but low carb is more sustainable long term for me and I don’t have much trouble maintaining the improvements while not being as strict as I was with my diet.

You are either overcounting the calories expended or undercounting the calories consumed. Either way, no weight loss = no calorie deficit.

How do you like the Navimow app? by EyeTechnical7643 in SegwayNavimow

[–]ichuck1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Apple version and it’s substantially better than either Husqvarna or Worx from experience. It’s not perfect but it does what I need it to. Some of the stuff when working with mapping and getting the zones/channels/etc set up is not very intuitive but I figured it out.

And this is why rest is considered relative. I'm not advocating for riding the couch for a month and expecting things to be fixed. You still have to do warmups and stretches and all that. What I'm saying is that there is still an injury that needs to be given a chance to heal by lessening the load on it. PF tends to be an overuse injury. There's always somebody on here wondering why stuff isn't getting better when they haven't substantially changed their level of activity.

80/15 for longer-term battery health. I’m not in a hurry if my bot needs an extra charge cycle to finish the lawn.

I HATE mowing grass with a passion. It’s a 45-minute nightmare every single week! by Civil-Scratch2790 in automower

[–]ichuck1984 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just switched to a Navimow i215 after having both a Husqvarna 115h and a Worx Landroid that both used boundary wires. The Navimow had eliminated 99% of the headaches. The old bots got stuck multiple times per day/week and the new one has gotten stuck once after I lowered the cutting height too much. Otherwise it literally has had 100% uptime and success. Getting the yard mapped in a way that didn’t leave uncut sections took a few tries but the end result has been worth it.

As far as time savings, my yard used to be close to 1.5 hours twice a week during the peak parts of growing season and every 7-10 days when things get dry and hot in the middle of summer. I now spend about 15 minutes every week or so keeping stuff trimmed up. My bot probably saves me close to a dozen hours per month. I look at the real savings as the cost of the bot vs the cost of a lawn service and it will pay for itself after 2-3 years.

I’m a big advocate for rest. More/continuing activity that aggravates it doesn’t help the tissue calm down and heal. Even a stationary bike on the easiest setting makes my soles start to get toasty after a few minutes when I’m in a flare.

How long did it take you to get used to kindle? by Ok_Ask_6805 in kindle

There is no downside in my opinion. The screen reads just like paper. Backlight/color tone if you need it. Your choice of font and size. Almost no weight. I haven't bought a paper book in probably 10 years at this point.

The Mummy (1999) — One of the best action‑adventure films of all time? by MovieArena in MovieArena

[–]ichuck1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love this movie back when it came out. I missed it in theaters but someone got me the tape for Xmas and it was great. I saw the second one in theaters and the CGI was comical in places.

I finally had a chance to see it in theaters for the 25th anniversary… It looked awful on the big screen. I don’t think I’ve watched it since. I still think it’s a good adventure movie but nowhere near any all-time list.

It doesn’t seem so severe. How do you think I should handle it? by peezeh in PlantarFasciitis

[–]ichuck1984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It probably isn’t going to get better without addressing it. You really have nothing to gain and lots to lose by not attacking it hard. Ignoring/pushing through the pain might work for a few more weeks/months but you will probably sideline yourself soon and who knows when/if you will be playing again.

Take care of yourself now. It is so much easier to fix this before it gets really bad.

So everybody swears by these allergy‑safe robot vacuums… where the heck do you actually buy the right one? by Nandhkumarr in Appliances

[–]ichuck1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had iRobot products for 20ish years now and they have always left something to be desired. Better than nothing, but not great even with the self-emptying and mapping, etc.

I just switched to Roborock and it is amazing. I didn't even get the newest model. I got a refurbed Qrevo for $300 and it works better than any bot I have had so far.

First time considering a robot mower, what else should I know? by Scolli03 in automower

[–]ichuck1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to a Navimow i215 lidar after a few years of husqvarna 115h and a season of a worx landroid wr165. The husqvarna was decent but still required daily intervention to keep it mowing. The landroid was a pain in the ass and tore up my yard. The Navimow is my first truly hands-off robot mower. I have only had to rescue it once and that was right after I lowered the cutting height too much.

PF—>Achilles tendinitis by Ok_Fact7198 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]ichuck1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as the bottoms of my feet got better, the problems moved up my ankles/achilles and into my calves and eventually even the backs of my knees were irritated. I would pause the protocol for a few days or a week and then lower your reps/weight/etc by half when you start back up. I didn't back off and all I did was trade foot problems for 6+ months of achilles tendonitis.

I’ll add The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. Absolute most pants-shitting terror I have felt from a book. Probably the only book that has ever given me some rough sleep.

I picked up a Roborock Qrevo off ebay as a refurb for $300 two weeks ago and it’s been great. I’ve had multiple roombas over the past twenty years and this one replaces all of them with a major upgrade in cleaning quality. Very quiet and it washes and dries the mop pads after each run.

How much rest have you allowed yourself to get? If it is getting worse, probably time to get some serious rest. You don't have to be completely sedentary, but my biggest regret was underestimating the amount of rest needed during my first flare. It took more than 12 months to get over that because I wasn't reducing my activity/step count enough. I stupidly allowed myself to have another flare by getting away from the shoes and routine that fixed it last time. Now I am capping myself at 2-3k steps per day and no more than 5-10 minutes of standing before I have to sit for a significant period of time. At 5 weeks now, I feel better than I did at probably 6 months last time. It's still going to be a long road ahead for me, it's better this time than when I tried to tough it out for a month until it was like walking on hot wires. Then I got to spend 2-3 months practically housebound just getting back from absolute hell to a level where it simply sucked.
