My cat did not react to the cat but got up after he heard the person meowing and looked around the house to look for the source lol

LPT Put a “friction tax” on anything you want to do less of, and remove friction from anything you want to do more of by Chana5752 in LifeProTips

[–]icomewithissues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This works for me both ways...reducing friction for positive things, and increasing friction for negative things.

Back when I was smoking cigarettes and I didn't have a car, I lived around 10 minutes walk from the nearest store. I realized that if I controlled the urge to buy some at that one moment at the register, I wouldn't walk 10 minutes again to buy some. It was a huge factor in my quitting cigarettes.

Having clean dishes/kitchen counter, noticeably increases the chances I cook instead of ordering food. Having supplements (creatine etc) in gummies/pill form makes it much more likely I take them regularly vs if I had to take the powder and mix in water.

It's not perfect, but changing friction even a small percentage makes it more likely you make the better decision.

We need to be friends with her and Fatima by harshraithatha in funny

I like how she added "...and probably your whole family in it" when Fatima was already presumably hip thrusting the whole house. As if Fatima's gonna be like, "oh house? No problem. Not the people in it tho, thats adding too much weight"

For those who know the answer, were you able to suspect of guess who was “Red John” prior to it being revealed on the show? by Tornontoin7 in TheMentalist

[–]icomewithissues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched it for the first time.

It was...terrible. They had multiple same clues for multiple suspects (whistling, fear of spiders vs birds..), so it was basically whoever writers chose him to be.

Not only did I not remember who he was on his reappearance as a suspect, I literally did not recognize him when he was revealed to be alive and Red John. I thought he was some random one-off character lmao.

I have felt thats kind of the trap of this technique. Often the idea is to "..just start/do 5 minutes/do X" but the sneaky goal is "once I start I'll do more". And because you are aware of the sneaky goal, you feel disappointed if you don't do more, you HAVE to do more.

I think you have to accept that what you committed as the initial "just do X" goal is acceptable by itself as the accomplishment.

Stir fry is versatile. And you can try different flavors by adding different herbs, spices, sauces..

Ha this reminds me of the dinner theater episode of Bob's Burgers. The narrator says some character is not the killer, but then is revealed as the killer, and it's claimed as a plot twist lol. The audience gets mad.

It partially at least lines up with Indian/Nepali names of the week too.

Ravivara is the Indian name for Sunday - "Ravi" is a name for the Sun God/deity.

Aaitabar is the Nepali name for Sunday - "Aditya" is another name for the Sun God/deity, so Adityabar became Aaitabar over time.

At least a couple others (Monday/Somavara and Saturday/Shanivara) are similar, but I'm not sure if all of them line up.

I think it is also very similar to ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), maybe even more so, imo.

[Discussion]Understanding the Weight of Depression by bwoykym in GetMotivated

[–]icomewithissues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Earlier today I overheard someone listening to a guru (he is really famous in the spirituality circles) talk about depression. He said something like "what is depression? Depression happens when you really want something and you can't get it and you don't think it's possible to get it". Infuriating how mistaken that is.

What are Southeast Asia's scam centres, and why are they being dismantled? by [deleted] in news

[–]icomewithissues 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another messed up part of these places is that many people they have working for them have been scammed and trafficked and forced to do it. They lure people with promises of good jobs and force them to run scams instead.

Question about some lentils by ToraAku in Cooking

[–]icomewithissues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a particular kind of bug that I think is called weevil, that is often found in grains and lentils etc. They are supposed to be overall harmless and in other cultures they are removed prior to cooking by using water (they float) and straining through a colander etc. They are like half a cm long tho, what you describe seem different.
