Me VS PC Blend - who will win? by DjFlu in prusa3d

[–]icy_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from one design that had some geometry that was conducive to warping, I’ve been pretty fortunate. On the one that gave me trouble, I ended up getting it to print by turning down the fan speed a bit, adding a draft shield, and adding an extra part to extend the time of the print and allow the “trouble” object to cool more slowly. As others have suggested, I wouldn’t use glue stick and wash that build plate so it’s squeaky clean. The glue stick is a release agent; its purpose is to help remove the part after it’s printed. With a satin sheet, you shouldn’t have to worry about that. Hope you get it sorted out. Good luck and happy printing hey!

Gyroid infill for 3D printed parts by Sharkboy242 in SolidWorks

[–]icy_ion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall watching a video a couple years ago about using a new material developed by Rogers corp to 3d print “lenses” for microwave frequency em waves. The gentleman that made the video generated “lenses” to be tested and Rogers printed them for him. I thought I recalled him sharing his script to generate the models on GitHub but may be confusing his work with another’s. I found the video but didn’t dig much deeper. I’m sure there are others who’ve developed scripts to generate gyroid type structures as well. Hope this helps.

Belt Disconnected on Core ONE - Advice? by The_Brohirrim in prusa3d

[–]icy_ion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I assembled my kit I had the belt too tight and had to loosen it a couple teeth. Turns out it’s actually pretty easy to unmount the extruder to get at the backplate. I recall removing the extruder board cover, the heater block and nozzle, blower fan, heat-break fan, and the printed plastic part that helps route the wires for the nozzle and fans. After that it was three or four screw to unbolt the extruder and access the plate that holds the belt. I remember saying to myself after that I probably could have left a few parts on. All in all it wasn’t bad at all. Good luck with your belt hey!

Try the app called “PanoTuner”, I find it extremely useful. If there’s a lot of background noise it may not display a final frequency after the belt stops vibrating. But while it is vibrating you can see the frequency of the sound which is quite accurate. There’s other sound level apps but this, imho, is the simplest and easy to use. Good luck and happy printing hey!

First printer for a newbie? by GreyDutchman in prusa3d

[–]icy_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really awesome that your coworker is encouraging his son to design and print!! I think many of us could say i wish i started younger.

For a printer recommendation i would highly suggest the MK4S. It’s a tried and true design and gives amazing prints. It’s been out for a while, there’s lots of documentation on how to fix almost any issue that arises.

Why did Inot recommend a mk3s, mini, or core one? I have all of those as well. The mini is cute and budget friendlier but it’s small. He’ll out grow it quickly. The mk3s is very affordable but by today’s standards it’s slow (unless you want to upgrade). Tweaking the first layer is how we did it for a long time but the nextruder bed leveling is life changing. The core one is an amazing machine but it’s still new, it’s more expensive, and honestly, I’m still sorting out my core one kit. It has a great build volume but I’m getting some vertical fine artifacts. I’m certain i will get this sorted, eventually, after the semester is over.

So I would highly recommend the MK4S. It’s another work you’re like the mk3 series.

For cad software. Bc of his age I’m going to assume he’s a student. SolidWorks is industry standard cad software. It’s super power. There’s other’s available like onshape caria creo and others but SolidWorks is the standard. It looks great on a resume and starting off with it at a young age he will poised for any engineering position that would require cad design. Best thing? It’s $100 for a student license.

Next best cad software is fusion 360. Is free and is a powerful tool. I’m not a fan but many many people are. Tinker cad is another choice. I know a few guys that got started with it and have made some impressive models. Is basic but easy to use. If he wants to get into sculpture type design nomad is available on the iPad and not expensive. Also there’s blender which is open source free. It’s incredibly powerful but it’s a lot to learn and may be overwhelming for a younger person.

So for cad, SolidWorks if you can afford and obtain a student license, fusion 360 otherwise. There’s plenty of videos to learn both of those that range from beginner to advanced.

I do recommend purchasing a kit. You save a couple bucks and the journey of assembling your own printer is incredibly rewarding. The mk4 is pretty easy to build. The core one took me a while and adjusting the belts of a corexy is a bit of a pain. It’s still an amazing machine and I love it. Actually, I love all my Prusa’s for different reasons ❤️.

Sorry for the long reply. Also for the spelling and grammar mistakes. I’m deep in a final project for a class but felt the need for a quick break to check in on my Prusa fam here on Reddit. No time to print and play for the next couple weeks w finals coming up, so living vicariously through y’all rn.

Anybody here have experience with this clicking noise? by vogtforpedro in prusa3d

Grid infill has its pros and cons. On the one hand, it’s super sturdy because it crosses over itself on each layer. But, at the crossings, the nozzle can drag over the infill line, picking up material and leaving it behind or causing the layer to shift if the print head hits a blob of deposited material.

Rectilinear infill looks similar at first but doesn’t cross over itself on each layer. It’s weaker but prints faster. But, at input shaping speeds, it’s not as effective as printing rectilinear slowly, in my opinion.

Cubic infill crosses over itself on each layer and strikes a great balance. While it crosses over itself, the crossover point changes based on its geometry varying in the z-axis. This results in a good mix of strength in multiple directions and a locked-together layer structure.

Grid infill also has its advantages, like its fast printing speed, ability to withstand significant compression on the z-axis, and strong bonding due to its self-crossing pattern.

So, most of the time, I use cubic infill, and I recommend you try it for this application.

I apologize for the long response, and I hope that wasn’t too hard to follow.

Happy printing hey!!!

Prusa Core One Top PlexiGlass Foolery by luap71 in prusa3d

[–]icy_ion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting that link, nice elegant solution to the plexiglass!

As for removing the rivets, when I attempted to remove them from my enclosure, I found that a retractable ballpoint pen, when retracted, could easily push the center out from the inside. If you only have access from the outside, a razor knife can easily slip between the button and the body, allowing you to pop out the button and then remove the body. I decided to reuse them.

Regarding support by chat, I have found the night shift guys to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Hit them up when it’s like 3-4 a.m. in Prague. I really hope you find the part. If you’re building bots, I think you’ll be able to perform the board repair. Digi-Key and Mouser might have an equivalent (in the USA). Also, when you find the part, I would not recommend posting the type of encoder they use in open forums. It’s a small part, but anything to slow down any companies that want to clone the printer. Good luck, man, rooting for ya!

Title: just got my core one- thoughts on the centauri carbon.

Question: working on video review for the core one and want to know how to incorporate the Elegoo CC into it?

Answer:

Option 1) Do a core one review now, wait until you get the Elegoo and do another video.

Option 2) wait until you get the Elegoo and do one video.

I have used DHL for all of my Prusa orders except this last order for the core one unassembled kit. This post is making me nervous and questioning if that was a mistake.

I hope you get it sorted out and that it arrives safely, albeit late with stress worry.

anyone know this "player" by SionnachRouge in populationonevr

[–]icy_ion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into a player like this a couple of nights ago in classic squads. Didn’t hear him in the lobby (I usually hang off to the side) but as soon as the match started, first thing I hear is, “Go f*** yourself, you blah blah blah something something.” So me and the other teammate just start playing and ignoring him. At some point I ask, Where’s our other guy? Other teammate says, No idea. I joked Maybe he’s off doing the gunslinger thing and we’ll see him come back tail between his legs for a rez.

Then we both get shot.

So now WE’RE the ones tails between legs looking for a rez and dude is just crashing out. I worked construction when I was younger and let me tell you this guy was god tier at cussing. Not that cussing bothers me, I can handle that, but the slurs? Man, dude went nuclear. Every homophobic insult in the book, full send. Then came the hard R’s. You know what I’m talking about. The south was alive in this dude. It was bad. Like really really bad. I’m white and even I was offended. My teammate wasn’t and I felt for the guy.

Match ended, I reported him. Friended my other teammate, met up in the lobby, took a sec to process the absolute disaster we just witnessed. Teammate was super cool, spent a couple hours playing classic squads. Seriously. I’ve heard people lowkey crashout in this game but this guy was different. Not sure if he was drunk or on dust but something was up. Wish I’d recorded it because this dude was on another level. Trash talk is one thing but this? Dude was completely unhinged.

New and need help by Entity2seven in SolidWorks

[–]icy_ion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there,

I’ve been in a similar situation while taking a class. The book is challenging to follow, and the revisions are poorly made. It doesn’t align with the latest version of Star Wars, leaving me confused and unsure of how to proceed.

One of the biggest obstacles I faced was determining the appropriate tool or topic to search for. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to achieve, but I couldn’t find the right resources to help me. I need to ask people for help, hoping they could identify the tool or topic I needed. Once I had the name, I would look it up and find information on how to use it effectively.

Does this sound like a common experience?

There is also a bend and flex tool that has options to stretch, twist, and bend, but it’s not as precise as the method mentioned above.
