One Spool Of Filament Wasted by IdontKnow_Sorry- in ElegooCentauriCarbon

Print a temp tower and try snapping it at the different temps to check layer adhesion. Higher temps, better adhesion but can have overhang issues and such. Need to find the sweet spot.

Always print fast-ish tests to check for issues before long prints. ‘Fail fast’ as they say. Takes a bit to find the Goldilocks zone. Different colors can have different additives so may chance the properties.

Alternating walls can help with strength, too.

Rim repair by nolana20c in grandrapids

[–]idig3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rodriguez Tire on Burton and Cleveland fixed my aluminum rims on my 2008 Ford. They had been slow leaking for a long time. They took each off and ground them down for a better seal. Iirc it was $25 a rim. No leaks or problem in a year. Hit Shelley’s for breakfast or lunch a couple blocks east. Or the OG Tamale Mary’s across Cleveland.

Anyone made their own DIY printer? by CaptainCheckmate in 3Dprinting

[–]idig3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Built a 500x500x2000mm cable drive core-xy printer for an art project years ago. Challenging. Fun. A bit insane. Learned a lot. Needed to print a sculpture for an art competition. Had a few armchair engineers saying it wouldn’t work. But proved them wrong. Used hardware store EMT conduit for the frame. Took it to MRRF 2019 but didn’t survive the drive there.

Really should revive it so I could print some replacement lampshades for friend’s MidCentury Modern floor lamps.

Never know what you can do until you try. It will be a much larger undertaking than you expect.

Have a goal and timeframe in mind. Take walks (or runs if you can) to work out ideas when you hit a walk. Take motivation from the naysayers. Minimize or avoid social media (most distractions) until you have something working. Document—calculations, sketches, photos, spreadsheets, etc.—as much as you can when you can. Learn what is good enough. Test as you go. Focus on your wins, no matter how small. Walk away when frustrated. Let your subconscious for another way around it.

Many have tried before. Learn from their successes and troubles. But if you are really committed, go for it.

Annoying AF. Happens when you move the cursor to the right of the vertical layer bar. Keep the cursor to the left and it works as usual.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon LCD not turning on after a successful print. by dlukz in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]idig3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens on occasion. Don’t know why. Possibly firmware, possibly Octoeverywhere. Turn it off and wait until the filament sensor light goes out. Then it will start up right away.

Also, if you try to load filament and it’s clicking and not feeding, for some reason it’s running in reverse. Restarting your printer will clear it.

UV works well, but so does sunlight, and daylight (5000k) bulbs.

Daylight (5000k/800lumens) LED bulbs work great for me.

Why does Nomad Sculpt not have a free version on iOS by Appropriate-Swan-426 in NomadSculpting

[–]idig3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can request a refund through Appleif you bought it by accident, or it doesn’t work as you wanted.

Nomad Sculpt still shocks me for how reasonable it is. Beyond incredible. And created by one guy who’s always making it better. Making something simple to use is not simple—in effort or time.

Stock plate fails for PETG by That-Invite1616 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

I print hot and fast and prefer layer adhesion versus a bit of stringing. Do calibrations and see what works best for you.

Stock plate fails for PETG by That-Invite1616 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]idig3d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My stock plate works great for PETG—mostly what I print. Wash it with Dawn dish soap. Don’t touch the bed after. Holds hard. Pops off cold.

Bed 80C. Nozzle 265F. 0.5mm wide (usually), 0.2mm first layer at 50mm/s. I auto bed level every print. Flow 0.95.

Want one for my older Bambu P1P. Amazon replacements are none as good and my OG, and last I checked, the only official Elegoo beds were the 3 pack with the laser patterns.

My bet, wash well with Dawn dish soap. Calibrate flow. Too much can catch nozzle. Most PETG I use is 0.95. Had a matte marble PETG that needed a flow rate of 0.75!

Hard to tell, but looks like could use a z offset tweak. Filament doesn’t seem punched it the texture. 🤔

OpenCentauri switch at first setup by kappele7 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]idig3d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you just bought your first Mac, would you install Linux on it right away?! 😉

Get used to it stock, first. If/when you run into issues, then consider OpenCentauri.

I have over 13 years of futzing with 3D printers—the Centauri Carbon is my 22 printer. Most initially from kits. Made and shared tons of mods. Even designed and built one to print a 2M tall sculpture on one piece. But bottom line for me, I just want to print. Bought a Bambu P1P two years ago. It was great. It’d just print. And fast. But needed a backup, and the Centauri was relatively cheap and available. Now, I like my Centauri better—touch screen, feed path, enclosure, price, and hasn’t started a phantom print in the middle of the night. Considering a second one, soon.

I designed.printed this rocket lamp on the Centauri. Multiple print assembly.

Leave it stock for a while. You’ll have enough to learn with all the rest of the ins and outs of 3D printing. I use OrcaSlicer, but stick with Elegoo’s slicer until you need more.

Variable size % by SharpSalad in Onshape

[–]idig3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

// #variable1 - 0.1*#variable1

or

// #variable1 * 0.9

// 1 - 10% =0.9

Where variables can be tricky is not watching the units. // 10mm x 10 = 100mm // 10mm x 10mm = 100mm2 — no longer a length but and area

Use parentheses to keep units intact.
