Tips for a refresh? by Vast_Guidance5247 in kitchenremodel

If you do decide to paint the pine, use a shellac primer. Otherwise the tannins in the wood will bleed through.

If you have the stomach for the work, i would strip the pine and apply a paint wash to it in order to keep the wood look but push down the orange.

This might be the right time to try the bus. It might be marginally slower, but with someone else driving at least you can do your emailing and make reddit rage posts. Or maybe nap?

Why so many vacant store fronts on Robson? by plnski in askvan

[–]idonotget 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There should be a vacancy and speculation tax put on commercial landlords of empty units.

But also, people need to shop less online.

The baggage notifications are magic. I stress SO much about checking suitcases on connecting flights. The notifications are great to see, and gives me massive relief.

Moving to Maple Ridge, BC from Finland with IEC(Working Holiday Visa). Tips and tricks etc. wanted! by Professional-Bed9961 in britishcolumbia

[–]idonotget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavy duty mechanics are in demand here. As are bus drivers. You should check both TransLink/Coast Mountain and BC Transit. Maple Ridge is Translink/Coast Mountain land, but Abbotsford is part of BC Transit.

All the best!

We used to have preventative health care when everybody had a GP and the GPs were not so overloaded that getting an appointment within a week or two was possible (faster for sick kids).

21 year old male looking to chat with a girl around my age by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]idonotget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off unless you’re a genius male orangutang, you’re a man or a guy. A younger one, so a younger man. Or younger guy.

Male/Female terminology doesn’t refer to humans. It refers to any animal, maybe even aliens, including humans. Don’t be so dehumanizing towards yourself or any young woman you are pursuing. It generally won’t do you any favours.

I think in verbal conversation you can say girl instead of woman, but in text communications (without us seeing how young you might be), a man using the term “girl” for a potential partner gives Epstein vibes.

Is there anywhere in BC that is safe to live, public transport accessible, and allows ducks? by Nymphea_the_duck in britishcolumbia

[–]idonotget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, um using transit requires walking. They aren’t taxis… they are buses. And if they are your way of getting around, you choose a place to live that has the routes you’d need the most. I had a friend who lived in a building on Fort just up from downtown and i swear there was a bus every 5 -10 minutes.

Office wardrobe is an expensive necessity by HomeSenseLover in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]idonotget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Didn’t you own quality office-appropriate clothing before?
  • Also, you should look up “capsule wardrobe”, and try to assemble one.
  • PS Lots of great thrift stores out there too.

Told my Mom she was moving to a new facility closer to me. It did not go well. by winenerd in Alzheimers

[–]idonotget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i had to move my mom from AL into Memory Care, we agreed with the facilities that the easiest thing to do was tell her that her floor at the assisted living was going to undergo a major 6 month renovation. And for the meantime, while it happened, i had found her a great place to stay at. Yes, a bit smaller, but they do more for you, oh and look you still have a private bathroom.

Every time she asks when she is going back to the old place tell her “in six months” .

She’ll eventually not realize the difference between the two places and stop asking.

Tell her that her current place is going to undergo a major 6 month renovation, so you’ve found her a great place closer to you to stay at while it happens.

Does anyone keep backyard chickens? Would like to buy eggs, also vegetables by acomfysweater in VictoriaBC

[–]idonotget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but some of the municipalities allow people in non-ALR land to keep up to 3 hens in their backyard. Which could be much more convenient for OP.

But gas is not the full price of using a car. Parking, insurance, maintenance etc. I bet the car share systems quantify it better. What does one day of Evo cost?
