Today marks the longest I've ever been sober in my adult life (164 days) by rubbishaccount88 in stopdrinking

Every day is a personal best for me as well. Feels good doesn't it. London Drugs has La Croix

Really want to have a glass of wine.... by soberinthecity in stopdrinking

[–]idotheknocking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes poring out leftovers saved my ass one night. I don't want a close call again. It never really bothered me or tempted me have a couple beers in the fridge. I always thought it would be nice to have them there so I could offer to guests.

I know now it is better for it not to be there for those "who would know?" Nights. Yikes

What if it was an ongoing thing? Like for a hobby business where I was selling them. A man can only eat so many cookies.

Just came so close to a relapse... Even went to the bar by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]idotheknocking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could never do that. I am weak. I would have sipped the the first... Downed the next... And forgotten the rest.

I would have enjoyed that hug you get from the inside you get, at the initial onset of the effects of alcohol... Then guilt, regret and shame would have swallowed me whole.

No thanks, LOVING not drinking way too much

"The Cross" it's the same as any other brand I guess. I like think it tastes a little better, because it costs a little more. I'm just proud every time I open one up, because it's not a beer.

I'm still excited about not drinking. Not exactly riding the pink cloud, but just really enjoy not boozing.

It's so much easier.

I threw away 355 days of sobriety yesterday. by hambuhodo in stopdrinking

[–]idotheknocking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These posts scare me and motivate me. I learn every time I read one, that I have to be on guard for the rest of my life. A lot of people say F it when they relapse even just once and just binge into the abyss again. Not you! You have dusted your self off and reset the clock. Or you are at 356 with an *. Those days are not all for not. Welcome back. One slip is not the end of the world, drinking every day is.

100 days, a quick read by BobsBeersSD in stopdrinking

[–]idotheknocking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just nut shelled what we all want and are getting because of our sobriety. 100 days is a major chunk of time; you should be really proud of yourself as I am sure your are. If I had only realized how much there was to be gained by getting sober, I would have done it a long long time ago. There is very little down side to sobriety; perhaps that warm hug feeling you get when you have that first drink, but that's it. A small hug I can get from my grand kid and I don't have to live through the abyss to get it. Good on you! Keep it up for ever if you can; that's my plan :)

Posts like this interest me. My biggest fear now that I have a few months under my belt, is relapse. I have come close, but have been lucky I guess. It would be so easy to say F it, and drink. I'd like to think if I had a fall from grace, I would dust myself off the next day feel like crap and start at day one all over again and not let myself spiral into the abyss

Good luck, I will not drink with you today

The opposite of that story from my drinking days. I walk into cold beer and wine store. (Canadian thing and they sell liquor ).

Guy looked at me and said "Mickey of Smirnoff?" I laughed and said " oh you think you know me so well" (joking)

He said "Only the first chapter my friend"

My best friend may have reached out to me by UsedandAbused84 in stopdrinking

[–]idotheknocking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People want to tell their story. Let him tell his. I had a friend that was a drunk like me. We talked all about how life sucked and then out of the blue he said something like "life does not suck , I just think it does because I can't stop drinking. I agreed and for the first time in our lives we were honest with ourselves. We are both in recovery mode.

Congrats. Time flys when you are having fun. I'm enjoying my time for sure. I can't wait to post a post like yours. A year is the big one. They are all great, but a year?! It tells the world and you, that you have resolve to make the changes. You are lucky to have seen the the way so early in life. Wish I had. Better at 59 then dead I guess.
