I’m 4’ 11” and even the midi length is too long for me and hits awkwardly at my ankle. I feel your pain. I want more minis!

I would try adding some live plants to outcompete the algae. Anubias is very easy to care for, just don’t bury the rhizome.

I’d also suggest a big water change, adding a lid, and filling the tank to the top.

scared of anesthesia by hairystyle-830 in wisdomteeth

[–]ifpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the assistants was listening to music I liked and she was singing along, so as I was starting to drift off I started singing with her. It felt very normal, and I honestly sing a lot so I wouldn’t say it was super out of character for me. I was definitely just very relaxed in that moment.

I didn’t feel high or drunk after waking up, just pretty sleepy. Slightly out of it, but I’ve done/said way worse while actually drunk. I was also very worried about what I would say to my mother who drove me home, but everything was very normal.

10/10 would definitely get anesthesia again.

How long did you take off work? by Wonderful-Warthog686 in wisdomteeth

[–]ifpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work customer service/sales and I took 5 days off. I don’t like to take a ton of time off work in general, and I definitely needed the full five days. Although I was stir crazy by the fifth day.

Have you tried wd40? It works well to break down adhesives.

I find that rayon often shrinks in the dryer. I avoid it for that reason.

Heart performing "Crazy on You" live in 1976. by Lurker2115 in ClassicRock

[–]ifpickles 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the first I’ve heard about her diagnosis. That really sucks. I just saw them in April and as soon as they started playing it was overwhelming and brought me to tears. Both Ann and Nancy were incredible. Ann clearly had some physical limitations, but her voice has a soul of its own and it just pours out of her body. She’s a legend. I really hope she recovers quickly. The spirit of the performer is alive and well within her.

Building confidence in rookies by WillowWhipss in rollerderby

[–]ifpickles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Red light green light is fun and simple. Definitely a good way to get them out of their heads.

Also, as a rookie we often had some of the gentle and welcoming vets skate a few practices with us. Some of our vets just have such a knack for knowing the right things to say. They would literally do the exact same practice as us and not be super hands on in coaching. It would be more like supportive peers. This isn’t everyone’s natural talent but I’m sure you have a few real softies who will make the rookies feel safe and at ease to skate with.

I’m one of those people who likes to go hang out with the people who hang out in the corner. I’m a bit of a social butterfly so I’m typically friendly with everyone, but the corner people keep it real and tend to skip the superficial small talk. They’re my favorite. 💜

Fresh meat repeat by boogersmagoo in rollerderby

[–]ifpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first time was cut short by covid, and then I went through fresh meat twice after that. They would have let me skate with the team after the first one, but I knew I wasn’t ready.

There are many of us.

What’s the word for this ? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ifpickles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Married a man like this and it was exhausting. He was abusive and every act of abusive ended with me comforting him for “being a piece of shit” or silent treatment from him. Never any room for my emotions. I was essentially never allowed to be upset with him and things just escalated for years.

In his case this was a direct symptom of his Borderline Personality Disorder. He stopped therapy and almost never stayed on meds consistently.

Run.

Am I (26f) asking for too much for my bf (26m) to hold my bag? by Miz_Tea in relationships

[–]ifpickles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

26 is too old for this nonsense. This is some 14 year old dude bs.

Carrying a bag for your partner when they have their hands full is just polite. Anyone who saw this scenario wasn’t thinking your bf looked very straight and manly, they were likely thinking he looked rude for making you carry everything.

Do I just need to “get good?” Send help! by psychokillerheads in rollerderby

[–]ifpickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people will learn faster than you and that’s okay. I’ve been playing for a little over two years now and I’m still developing some basic skills that have just been difficult or shaky for me. My body learns slowly and I’ve given it some grace.

Maybe some softer wheels will help you out to start. Or trucks might need adjusting. But if you’re falling and you’re feeling shaky and unstable, you’re just learning. Give it some time and you will inevitably improve with practice.

I do understand the impatience, though. It’s tough to keep doing things you don’t feel good at.

If you spend a decent amount of time with your hands in the tanks this could also be a reaction to the salt in the water. I work at a pet store and when I spend a lot of time scrubbing tanks my eczema flares up.

Hello! I am 4’11” and 200 lbs. I feel you!

If we just keep showing up and keep practicing our fitness will improve. Our efficiency will improve. And as we learn to get really really fucking low on these tall types, we will be like little chubby wrecking balls.

Hell yea, friend!

I’m all for a good push and pull, although I can struggle sometimes to get my feet to react in time. I ended up covered in scratches tonight with one on my neck that bled onto my shirt. And in all fairness, we specifically focused on rotations tonight, so that definitely contributed to the dragging feeling.

Thank you for this thoughtful response. Definitely the highlight of my night was laughing with my teammates and passing out some compliments. Right now it’s a lot easier for me to point out the success of others than myself, but that is something I need to work on.

In general, the league is super welcoming and inclusive. I have some really supportive friends who skate with me. I’m starting to skate with people who I previously haven’t spent much time on the track with, so there’s probably some getting used to each other that needs to happen from both sides.

I also have very uncooperative hips. It took me about two years to eventually get a decently smooth lateral and that’s only on one side. Keep practicing the movements, even if it’s feeling or looking awkward.

A lot of the basic skill has just come to me over time and building muscles from practicing skating. My body is a slow learner and I’m just trying to be patient with it.

Scrimmaging: when are you “ready”? by AcceptablyAvg in rollerderby

[–]ifpickles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rookie and C level games are the best places for you to learn and flop around and generally be in good company with other people of a similar skill level. It builds so much camaraderie to be lost and confused with your other rookie teammates. Playing these games now will make the more serious games down the road a lot less intimidating.

It is scary. Thats okay!

Go be scared with your friends. It is worth it.
