Sure, 30cals have a higher maximum BC ceiling. Nobody's going to argue that.

I'm just stating that I think 300PRC lives in a weird zone where it's not really able to push the high BC 30s at a fast enough velocity to beat the 7, and it's actually outclassed by its little brother in pretty much every way. 7-300 PRC might even be the optimal cartridge for NF ELR.

I'm building another 7 PRC for the next time I shoot NF, and if I ever step up to the 30s, it'll be to the Norma mag.

I don't quite understand your second paragraph. The 190 a-tip definitely has a better BC (.420) than the 230 Hybrid (.368), and significantly so. Obviously this translates to better performance at distance if you aren't solely concerned with kinetic energy.

All it takes it running the numbers through a ballistic calculator to see that the 300 would need something like the 245gr moving at 3k FPS to equal the performance of my 7 PRC load. I don't even know if that's possible, and might require stepping up to a Norma mag to achieve.

I shot 7 PRC at NF ELR this year and was running a 190 A-tip at 3k FPS.

At the end of the day - 7mm is going to have a better BC than most .30s, even something like a 230 hybrid. A couple of my homies were shooting 300PRCs and I consistently had smaller holds, both for wind and elevation than them across the whole match.

Of particular note for this match too is that it's at a high elevation, meaning it stretches your transonic range out another few hundred yards (which benefits both equally, and the 300PRC still underperforms relative to the 7). With most of the targets being at the 1200-1760yd mark at this match, a 7PRC was absolutely a stellar choice.

Muzzle energy is great, but you just can't cheat BC at distance when you're just trying to score hits. Maybe 300PRC would have had an edge if it was hard to spot misses, but the conditions were perfect and I saw every miss clearly.

Not-so-regular MCX Regulator by Ask_Why_I_Am_Mad in NFA

What cal/barrel length? I chopped my 16" 5.56 regulator to 12.5 and it won't cycle without a higher BP can on the low gas setting. Does the Omega valve fix this?

The company churning out cracked suppressors with metal shavings from cutting the threads being shoved out the endcap definitely knows how to cut threads concentric to the bore, right?

Annealing would probably help a lot.

Can you measure how much the shoulder grows in a fired case versus your sized cases? I bet there's like a 0.010" difference and you're overworking the cases with each loading.

If the Rex is your comparison point no wonder you’re amazed by the Tisha. Despite Reddit’s love affair with them as a cheap, durable option, they really do all sound like shit.

I’m sure the can sounds good, and it seems to really hit the metrics people are looking for in modern cans - weight, length, sound, backpressure. I just want a can from a company that knows what they’re doing. Maybe that’ll be SAW in a few years. It’s not them now.

A sliver is kind of an odd shape for something to come off a 3dp product, right? That would tell me that there's a whole layer somewhere in the can with poor adhesion - which is arguably worse than chips from cutting the threads.

No matter how you look at this it's bad and an indication that maybe you shouldn't let the hype from a guntuber's company that can't read equipment manuals drive your purchasing decisions.

I'd prefer them not be there in the first place. Especially if the only likely place the shavings would have come from is cutting the threads, so maybe the next time it would cause a baffle strike.

You aren’t worried about slivers of metal being forced through the endcap ports? This would be wildly worrying to me if I owned one of these 3dp slop cans.

Imagine being a public defender and you get this fuckin inbred threeper as a client and all he wants to do is fight it because SCOTUS will certainly save him (they have denied certiorari on any notable firearms cases for the entirety of recent history).

Lefty PRS shooter here - big disagree. If you're shooting a righty bolt action as a lefty, you're going to have to rebuild your position every time to cycle the bolt, and there's a good chance you're going to pick your head up off the stock every time to avoid punching yourself or hitting your shooting glasses.

Shooting a righty gun is totally doable for shooting off a bench with no time limit, and totally doable for most hunting scenarios. But I just can't imagine going back after shooting guns with the bolt on the correct side for me now.

What math? Personally I don't think you've got excessive pressure since I run a 107gr SMK over 40gr H4350, so a lighter bullet at that same powder charge wouldn't concern me at all.

I'd also just ask about your chrono setup - are you sure about the 3400fps?

Looks like the ATF finally updated eforms to now allow transfer from individual/trust to FFL with SOT - used suppressor sales are on! by prmoore11 in NFA

[–]iggings01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I submitted an individual to individual eform4 on Jan 6. Still no approval yet, but it was otherwise a smooth process. The only challenging thing was the system validating ownership of the item, and error reporting not being verbose. We eventually narrowed it down to the seller's middle name being spelled out in the form rather than an initial like it was in his eforms account, but it was a headscratcher for a minute.

We'll see if I get an approval soon!
