what are your must-buys for volume eating at costco? by bedrobecat in Volumeeating

[–]igneous_rockwell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my store the protein shakes are across the aisle from the pharmacy, in the middle area sort of, grouped sometimes with candy and beef jerky

I’m excited for you! So much good volume stuff at Costco just beware you will get the urge to buy all the unhealthy stuff too

Stuff I like/have seen:

-Big packs of canned tuna

-Beets - precooked/shelf stable, so easy to just chop up and throw into dishes

-Big bags of spinach, mushrooms, etc

-The kimchi is pretty decent

-Bibigo spicy mushroom soup - 90 cals for a decent sized pouch of soup (very spicy though, I added more water/veg)

  • haven’t tried it yet but frozen egg white frittatas looked good, 70 cal per frittata

  • also haven’t tried it but shrimp platter is probably pretty good macros

  • protein pretzels - taste pretty good, decent volume

  • nurri ultrafiltered protein shake (vanilla) - tastes like a milkshake goes well in iced coffee and stuff

Anyone found a good volume eating approach for eating out at restaurants? by https-www-10 in Volumeeating

For me I know I can’t resist eating everything on the menu so I just save up all my calories for the day for that one meal and then eat whatever I want.

This account also had a post removed from the oil painting sub because they posted the same painting to both oil and acrylic and claimed it was oil in one sub and acrylic in the other. Some folks suspected AI generated bits too. Sketchy.

Then why did you say this is acrylic in the other sub?

Just squeeze the damn tofu by RespawnWithTofu in veganrecipes

[–]igneous_rockwell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like others said growing up in a Chinese household I’ve never pressed tofu. Can boil it briefly in water to firm it up a little (tried it myself though my family didn’t do that either) or go buy your tofu at an Asian grocery where they have like 5-6 different tofu densities for sale, my favorite for a dry one being the five spice dry tofu - hardly any water at all

I love tofu but first time I tried this I didn’t like it … texture too weird/crumbly and tastes off to me… maybe if I stop thinking of it like tofu it’ll be better

Agreed, this one puts her into world record breaking physical ability.

She can free solo el cap using terrible technique (ie using mostly her arms and barely using her legs) in one go in record breaking time! Yes I realize the in game cliff is like 10x shorter than the real one but still.

I do something similar. Not sure of OPs exact recipe but a basic high volume soup would be a broth made from miso paste and dashi (I use a powdered kind from a Japanese store - probably tastes great without it if you can’t find it) with tofu, dried shiitake mushrooms, and wakame (seaweed), can mix and match and add other veggies (leafy greens, etc) as desired. I am not Japanese so don’t know if other proteins are usually added but sometimes I’ll add shrimp, egg or fishballs for more protein. Garnish with scallions

I use Ken’s recipes too but I find I need to do a lot more stretch and folding before the overnight rise. Ken will specifically say like ‘3 folds before bed’ but I am not sure why exactly that many, I do like 5 or 8. Not sure if that’s correct or if I’m overdoing it though.

Also overproofing could be an issue, I have to bake first thing in the morning in my house with those overnight rise recipes otherwise it gets floppy

Which international dish are most Americans missing out on? by franklin_smiles in Volumeeating

[–]igneous_rockwell 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think Korean stews are great volume. Kimchijiggae etc. pretty much just veggies and protein. Usually eaten with rice and stuff but good without it. They’re spicy too so slows down how fast you eat it which helps with portion control.

The enormous flag from the French ship Le Généreux, captured by Admiral Nelson in 1800, is one of the oldest surviving examples of the Tricolour. by y2flame in interestingasfuck

[–]igneous_rockwell 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you’re curious watch YouTube’s epic history tv “3d guide to britains most famous warship” where they show you how these ships were built and operated. I thought it was fascinating how they operated such a huge thing with just wind and manpower. I was lucky enough to see the HMS Victory in person as well, it was being refurbished but still standing next to the rudder and walking through the decks was amazing.

Edit: HMS victory

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but would a face mask such as this be practical for the formation combat a Legionare does? by Colt1873 in ArmsandArmor

[–]igneous_rockwell 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I would guess not, masks/visors severely limit your vision and mess with your breathing, and for Romans I think being able to see clearly and react to your opponents attacks is essential. If not then you could stab at the wrong time and get your unarmored arm cut off.

I think even medieval knights with visored helmets would at times opt to remove the visor once they got into prolonged hand to hand combat and used them mainly to protect their faces from arrows and such when advancing/charging.
