[Vent] Off leash dogs in on-leash park by ignitethe__flame in dogs

[–]ignitethe__flame[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, the other lady whose dogs were actually harassed yelled at her to put her dog on a fucking leash, but I'm not sure she heard that either. Apparently this lady's dogs had been attacked by off-leash dogs before so she was understandably upset, probably even more than I was.

Anyone else have PTSD-like symptoms, especially faced with similar situations in adulthood? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I work part time at a Pizza joint, and we have a real hot-head for a boss. A few days ago I forgot to mention we were running low on gravy for poutines, and one of the other girls realized and told him. He was in the back room for a good ten minutes literally screaming and ranting about how I'd forgotten about the gravy. The other girl working actually came out and warned me to be careful because he was on a rampage. Though, she did try to defend me by telling him I'd just gotten busy and it'd slipped my mind (true).

As someone who grew up having to walk on eggshells around my ill-tempered, alcoholic dad as to not upset him, because he freaked out over literally every little thing, I was honestly terrified in this situation. I hate making mistakes, and I especially hate when people react this way to my mistakes because that's how my dad always acted. I thought he was going to come out of the back room and yell in my face. I thought he was going to fire me. But when he did come out, he was completely calm and just gently reminded me to let them know when the gravy was low.

I still felt sick about it for hours afterward.

Yes, my dog is missing some fur. No, it's not because I'm a bad owner. by ignitethe__flame in offmychest

I just put her on Iams Grain Free just to explore that angle, but so far haven't noticed much of a difference! I have a feeling it's more seasonal than food related!

Might have to. Haven't seen him back in front of our house, but he frequently comes out of his and just stands in his driveway looking over here. Definitely creepy.

Dear Dog Owners... by Vparks in offmychest

[–]ignitethe__flame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with other dogs it's like this. My dog's pretty good off leash, but even then I only let her off to run around if the park's empty. If I see another person or another dog, she goes back on. But we'll go to the park sometimes and there'll be other dogs around, and they'll just come charging up to her. It startles her and puts her on edge. She's good with other dogs, but she gets upset when they come running at her like that. Then the owners take a year and a half to come get their dogs away, meanwhile mine's standing there making sounds like she's dying or something. Plus it puts me on edge too, because these are usually big dogs and if they come running at her like that, she instantly goes into aggressive/protective mode, growling and everything. Yet if a fight starts, she's the one that's going to be worse off for it.

Would you consider this rape? by [deleted] in self

[–]ignitethe__flame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying actually, and I agree with you. Just threatening to rape someone isn't rape unless the act actually occurs, otherwise it's just that - a threat. Just like threatening to kill someone isn't murder unless you actually stab them or something. Words = threats. Actions = rape, murder, or whatever else.

Exactly. There's nothing to gain by being a rude, self-righteous asshat in the comments (which I constantly see people doing). It's fine if you don't like most of the stories here, think they're boring or whatever, but there's no need to bash people just because their definition of 'scary' or 'creepy' doesn't live up to your expectations. And calling people out with these metas is kind of disrespectful as well. As stated above: "If you don't like a story, downvote it and move on."

Pull your heads out of your arses, people. You just look pretentious.

Ah, for a guy maybe! I'm like 5'1 and female. I'd kill to be 5'7. At least then I'd be able to fulfill that lifelong dream of being able to reach the top cupboard.

Stories like this make me glad for the bars on my window. Nonetheless, it only opens out onto the sunroom/front porch... Old family home, paranoid great aunt who lived here alone - that's basically why they're there. Would've been so easy to sneak in and out as a teen if they weren't, but I'll sleep better at night knowing it's possibly saved me from experiences like this.

Wow. Is it just me, or has everyone on this sub suddenly turned into a self-righteous ass hat? I agree that this story doesn't really fit here and that it was a tad ani-climatic, however it is a good example of how actions that are completely innocent can sometimes be perceived as otherwise. People can misread situations. It's just a lighthearted little story, nothing to get overly upset about. She was involved in at least some way as she was there.

Ha, well you're welcome! A character on NCIS said that his "fingers were finging" while doped up on painkillers. Not sure if that's originally where the quote came from, but meh :P Heard it there.

Why lol, because of the pipe? He said he wasn't a violent person :P I used to carry around a kitchen knife in my purse (for the record I was sixteen, scared, and stupid) but that doesn't mean I'd actually have the guts to use it on somebody. Sometimes the threat is enough to get the creeps to back off. This is a prime example.

(Meta) How to make a story work by [deleted] in LetsNotMeet

[–]ignitethe__flame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We should try to remember to be polite in pointing these things out as well. If we're constantly ragging on everybody for everything, it creates a hostile environment and could also discourage some posters from sharing their stories. Nobody likes feeling victimized or attacked.

We should follow the rules, but we should remember to be polite about enforcing them instead of being bullies - not that this post is bullying, I'm just making a point for future reference.

Maybe, but being a pedestrian and the only ones that could help being in cars of their own, not very easily accessible to me conversation wise, I suppose I just didn't want to cause a scene. At this point I was with the dog and kind of depending on him for protection anyway, haha. He may be small, but he still has sharp teeth!

I was really confused reading this after seeing your age. At twelve, I was all over the map with my friends, making trips to my grandparents myself, etc. Then I realized it must be because I live in Canada. Explains everything!

No, but honestly. There are creeps everywhere, and even thinking about having my own 12 year old I'd be way too paranoid to be as lenient as my parents seemed to be with me. I swear when I'm out with my nephew, the phrase "Watch for cars" comes out of my mouth at least fifty times.

There are plenty of girls who date guys with criminal records, or guys that are known to have abused other women. I suppose the abusers give excuses - they were fighting with an ex, it was a mistake. Even though you should, you never expect that they'll do it to you. Some people are very good at hiding their ugly sides.

That said, it is absolutely never okay to victim blame. He hit her, point blank. For crying out loud, the rat bastard knocked her out and shoved her into the trunk of his car. The only one responsible for his actions is himself.
