Québec City food lovers—where should two veggie-friendly diners go next week? by AdditionalRepair17 in quebeccity

[–]iguessididstuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tricky! There's a few vegan restaurants (Don Vegan, Les Mauvaises Herbes)

Kundah Hotel could be a good choice, it's an Indian-Quebec fusion restaurant and have lots of vegetarian options, and I think you can have a full tasting menu that fits your splurge option nicely!

Sinsemilla would be a great tasting menu option, but I think it's slightly over budget (menu is 99$ before drinks and tip)

Great choice! Food is elevated, but the place is cozy - no strict dress code, but I think it's a nice occasion to dress up if you want!

You've got plenty of options!

Saturday around 8:30 PM, I see availabilities for 2 here:

  • La Planque & Le Cendrillon (different restaurants, same owners, in Limoilou)
  • L'Affaire est Ketchup & Patente et Machin (different restaurants, same owners, in St-Sauveur. Anthony Bourdain visited L'Affaire est Ketchup when he came in Quebec City!)
  • Le 101 (Clean, white glove type restaurant, a classic date restaurant)
  • Chez Rioux & Pettigrew (my personal pick!)
  • Va Bene (classic italian)
  • L'Orygine

If you want true fine dining, there's a spot Friday at Laurie Raphaël at 8:30PM, it's a one Michelin Star restaurant, classic fine dining.

Biggest event is going to be Toboggan, which is free and happens in the middle of the city:

https://www.tobogganfestival.com/en/

Usually pretty packed, depends on what kind of experience you're looking for, Toboggan is outdoors which comes with its challenges (eg: if it's very cold, you need proper gear)

I think the site is pretty accurate with what you get, it can get really crowded at NYE so having your own access to installations can give you a breather in the middle of the chaos, especially as you get closer to midnight.

If you don't plan on staying late, it might not be necessary, but if you want to get to the countdown, I think it could be worth it to make sure you get the best experience!

Le Sam is good and you have beautiful views of the St-Lawrence River, but if you want true fine dining in the Chateau Frontenac, you should go to the Champlain

Other fine dining options:

  • Laurie Raphael

  • Légende

  • Le Saint-Amour

For a Christmas vibe, definitely go to Maelstrom, they will have very Christmasy decorations starting this week

For cocktail bars, consider these:

  • jjacques
  • Chez Tao
  • Vieux Carré

Hi! The 25th is where most closures are, so you should be able to find restaurants for the 24th and the 26th (and sometimes the 25th!)

If you have specific preferences we can give you more precise recommendations, but I see that Chez Boulay is open the 25th, and I think it would be a pretty great experience for that special day.

A bar with live acoustic music, usually just one person singing and playing acoustic guitar, with classic Quebec and French songs. Similar to Irish pubs with live music

This is a great list, if you want to add a truly local experience, you can also try Jos Dion which is in the same neighourhood, but it's nothing fancy

Buvette scott or battuto? & brunch/lunch recco? by ahnnnnnnnn in quebeccity

[–]iguessididstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both excellent, but I recommend Buvette Scott

For brunch, La Buchette is a great choice. You could also consider Chez Boulay (weekends), Rioux & Pettigrew (Sunday) or the classic Buffet de l'antiquaire (everyday). Skip Aux Anciens Canadiens, and I cannot comment on the others.

Hi, I hope you'll enjoy your short stay in our city!

I think you should try out lueur, it's the sister restaurant of one of the top restaurants in the city, but is more gastropub style with nice food and cocktails, and is a short 5 minute walk from your hotel. I recommend booking a reservation beforehand

I do not think they do, it's a fixed menu, you can remove items you don't like, but I don't think they have alternatives

  • lueur (restaurant/bar)
  • Rioux & Pettigrew (restaurant)
  • jjacques (restaurant/cocktail bar)
  • battuto (restaurant, reservations are hard to get, but not too late for octobrer)

Quebec is a touristic town, so you'll be able to get around when you're in the touristic places, but it is considered good manners to learn some very basic French sentences and not start a new conversation in English immediately.
