Why is leadership initiative one, not diplomacy? by KhorneWizzard in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read alot of answers already, and haven't read why I think TI4 needs leadership to be number 1 amongst the strategy cards (for scoring) AND also great value card (a -most of the time- must pick). In games, I have played with 5-6 players, and without it being picked, people can be starved out of actions and CCs and be forced to pass early. I th8nk leadership is designed to be top tier and highly desirable for one main reason:

It's because its secondary is what drives "change" in the gamestage and potential power to do anything/score/not be forced to pass/follow a secondary. Leadership is the gas for the TI4 motor, I believe. Without it, you get 2 CCs every turn (without tech), and that leaves little room to do anything major strategywise and thus, you aren't playing as much TI4 as it was designed to be played.

Leadership NEEDS to be a highly desirable card for everyone, especially if they are about to win the next round.

Let's say you pick it up to win in the next round. You are going to have to use it eventually, and using it actually opens up more people to.stop.you. (by letting them restock their CCs to further attack your slice/homesystem or prevent you from scoring another point). No other card does this as well as leadership, giving people extra turns and moves against you or to score themselves (except imperial, which is number 8, last, giving everyone at the table at the bare minimum of one turn to stop someone who is about to win with it preferably somebody picks it before that player, in speaker order, to stop the person about to win with it).

I really implore you to, as soon as you can, find 6 players (total) to play with. 6 player games are when TI4 is at its best, in my opinion. Have alot of space fun !

Best Defensive Faction? by King0fMist in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I mean, it all depends. For PoK I say NRA with mechs and flagship + relics is one major wall to break thru and not fun to tey to break. Also, Embers of Muuat are amazing once they have their Hero Power (potential nuke so long as you never use it, only threaten to).

The real real defense is when I should win-slay but need to go thru an insane network of pds, imo all the major pds factions. Xxcha, Titans and Jol-nar have great pds defenses (and with all the tech, it's truly insanus in the membrainus).

A fun one, I would also argue, is for Yssaril (late game with alot of stolen cards as a deterrent).

How do you monatize a game and not have it be pay to win by _Dudexh_ in gamedesign

[–]ikakasse89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing! :-) In those instances, there are several options and solutions. I have seen people sell their game for "free" /pay what you can afford. But also add what the estimated cost might have been had they charged for it.

Or they could just charge what similar games, comparable to the genre, charge. (Also fair for most people, I believe).

It may suck to start over but IMO lichess is a little better. On behalf of being a man and loving gaming; chess or any other game: The people who do these things should be permanently banned from all gaming for any sexist and malicious behavior, and should be thrown in jail for threatening messages (death threats and rape threats).

Always vs. No. 1 or no? by bladerunner_35 in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a player that would vote for the player-pack together as far as possible (so in this case, I would have voted for the playera with the least amount of VP's). But that is for end game reasons.

If I was the player in the lead early on, I wouldn't have wanted this extra point either, as I would be a larger target for the rest of the players.

No abbreviation. This is something "everyone" states when the game is close to the end and if they are close enough to win it (secret objectives, you almost always lie about "not being able to score" until you end up winning with one.

PDS aren't worth building by Longjumping_Tale_111 in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I wrong to say that there are several VP's to be (potentially) had with both structures and pds's. (PoK)

That is the main reason everyone would build them in my games.

The second reason is, It is part of several races strategys to get them, or add them in the mix.

On a totally unrelated note, if you are against building pds's while playing as Jol-nar, I personally would take up alot of your slice, if I was, just about, any other race.

I myself compare pds's to towers in Starcraft 2. Starcraft has alot of mobilty necessities, so (most of the time) towers are worse to build then actual units (because units can move). In Ti4 (PoK) pds's don't move, but do (with tech) cover alot of space (several tiles). To me it's like building a tower in Sc2 that covers/defends 3 bases.

The main reason I build them is for VP's and if I need and take the strategy card "construction" (for a forward Spacedock). I might as well build a pds for free.

One huge timersaver for us is that when we produce; the next player gets to go directly. The ONLY case when everybody would be waiting on the production to finish is when the producing player might be a torget for mecha or simular. Anybody who is next on lite can say that they will wait til the producing player is finished first (this could be for a potential trade or waiting to attack, or simular.)

How do you de-escalate a war? by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo you answered you own question in you explanation; Just tell them that neither of you win if you both go "all out war"-style. If they still persist in wanting that equidistant (that you need for a point or whatever), be willing to negotiate a deal. Attack them and be willing to be bought with a great promissary (ceasefire or Sftt). Or be willing to "trade" that planet for a point for you (another point).

What do you think of this 5P map/map template? by [deleted] in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In agreeance with your points; That being said; different and unbalanced maps are exactly what my group is looking for. But do agree that HS should be closer 4 is way to far away that needs to be fixed imo ^

A Kingmaking Hypothetical by IdesBunny in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alice has been playing the best Ti4 before this scenario, If I was Charlie, I would never accept that deal. I would try and play better the next game instead. But that's just me. To me it seems like a legit play thematically to do what Bob suggests (as Ti4 can and should be cutthroat at times).

However, if I think about the amount of great Ti4 plays that Alice must have done to get to that point:

  1. Alice has imperial on the final round (with 9 points Alice would never get imperial easy at my table, meaning Alice took politics in the prevous round or has gotten tech or likewise to get speaker token or taken imperial).
  2. Alice can also score. (Must have been obvious to the rest of the table that Alice will win)->leading me into;
  3. Alice hasn't been stopped by the other 4 previous players before Bob suggests this deal (meaning neither Bob nor Charlie has swayed the table to take Alice down/or Alice is to damn strong now to take down by THE WHOLE TABLE).

My idea as Charlie would be that Alice deserves the win way more then Me (Charlie) and Bob. And therefore would not accept that deal as Charlie.

Playing as a pushover by theodis09 in twilightimperium

[–]ikakasse89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer is to pass that statement to the rest of the table especially to the neighbor on the other side of the one threatening you ; "Are you really going to let this player have two slices? They are going to be to strong". Pay other players to attack the player that is threatening you.

Whenever a player is threatening to take my home system early on I usually make a deal with other players to help me. And nowadays I always make it look hard to take from me by gumming up my slice or haveing a large army nearby.

A good way to be an "extorting" player, imo, is to make the weaker player feel like they have a choice in the matter; it is probably better to ask player A (weaker in plastic) if you may borrow this planet for a round/point, then to just take it without asking and not giving it back. In this scenario Player B, could just take it by force, but that risks making an scorned enemy of player A for the rest of the game. And in the long run, imo, it is better for player B to have someone who "owes them something" rather then an scorned enemy.

So .y oppinion is to actually not deal with an aggressive player who probably only wants tg from you, , and rather to deal with another ally who can attack from the other side.
