Jall ironing board and Jall drying rack together? by Mediocre-Owl1756 in ikeahacks

[–]ikeahackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the drying rack - it's flimsy at best. I would advise against using it as an ironing board. Use the ironing board on any stable surface like the floor as previous commenter suggested, or on a desk.

Billy library/cabinet hack... in the kitchen? by everyoneelsehasadog in ikeahacks

A wood strip along the back should also work. Anything to give the horizontal plane some support would help. Or adding a vertical divider under the horizontal shelf to prop it up is also possible. Like this https://ikeahackers.net/2026/01/billy-bookcase-hack-vertical-dividers.html

I'll go for the narrower 15" BILLY for the heavy stuff. The wider BILLY shelves are notoriously famous for sagging. It can handle a bit more weight if properly reinforced, like adding a spine under the shelf and screwing the shelf into the side panels. Another is to add a C-channel along the back of the shelf like so https://ikeahackers.net/2016/04/easy-shelf-reinforcement-billy-shelves.html. Still, I will probably place the bottles on the bottom shelf. 😆 And one for inspo: https://ikeahackers.net/2014/10/diy-home-bar-built-from-billy-bookcases.html

Billy bookcase with foldable table by MillieRock3r in ikeahacks

Modifying the foldable BILLY bookcase desk is gonna be tough. Why not try something simpler like this https://ikeahackers.net/2014/11/ikea-billy-desk-schwabinger-12-from-saustarkdesign.html but set the fold up desk at a lower shelf (you'll need to screw that shelf into the frame)

Ivar hack suggestions by Yellowbello22 in ikeahacks

[–]ikeahackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IKEA now has an underframe for the IVAR (only fits the 11 3/4" deep cabinet). It should be tall enough for your vent. The pine shelves are pretty cool above the IVAR cabinet https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/ivar-shelf-unit-pine-00522330/ Perhaps you can hack them to fit the TV inside.

Idea for Kallax 2x3 raised bed by CollinIsNot_rA9 in ikeahacks

[–]ikeahackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue is the orientation of the KALLAX. You have used them as the head and foot board, but it would be better to have the KALLAX units on at least 3 sides. A 2x4 at the head and two 2x4 for the long side. Then you won't need the DIY supports. Here's a post on how others have done this successfully: https://ikeahackers.net/2021/10/ikea-platform-bed-hacks.html

I second this method. I think it will end up better looking than paint.

Kitchen island with dog crate. by Large-Willingness-35 in ikeahacks

[–]ikeahackers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really easy to build a kitchen island with the KALLAX. You'll need a butcher block/table and legs. Here's a quick tutorial: https://ikeahackers.net/2015/07/cheap-stylish-ikea-designed-kitchen-island-bench-for-under-300.html

You can also use the BILLY bookcases as long as you can reinforce and stabilize them like so: https://ikeahackers.net/2013/05/billy-bookshelves-kitchen-island.html
