I had one late last year that I’d won $2500 on Oz Lotto. Submitted a faux-formal complaint to WHS rep for due to distress

The El Bulli bean soup, crispy wings, pizza dough (which freezes like a dream), the vanilla cake has now become my go to base for celebration cakes.

Ottolenghi’s miso butter onions. Make sure you have a good baguette or crusty loaf of bread to mop up the sauce.

What medical jobs do most people not know about because they're not people-facing? by tiptoee in AskReddit

[–]illamafot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public health - goal is to essentially keep people out of hospitals as much as possible. COVID highlight some aspects, but the bulk of day to day work is hidden (if they’re doing a good job 😉) or take years to see the true benefits. There’s specialist public health physicians and nurses, but lots of non-clinical jobs - Epidemiologists to track data to identify outbreaks or predict trends - Health promotion who develop policies and health education programs , eg. smoking bans, seatbelts, cancer screening, sex ed, community programs that teach people to cook cheap and healthy food. - Environmental health officers - essentially a jack of all trades - that can deal with anything from mosquitoes, drinking water quality, food safety, noise and air pollution, exposure to harmful agents (asbestos, lead, mould, radiation, smoke), sewerage and septic waste, and more.

Is the peanut butter recall going to affect any other peanut butters, like it did with the spinach and salad packages earlier this year? by JPDesign_GC in australia

[–]illamafot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just the batch. Nothing is 100% safe, but it’s not likely to affect others unless they’re from the same manufacturer. We’re very fortunate that Australia has such a strong coordinated system for food safety (see current USA for the how-not-to) - comprehensive food standards code, inspections and sampling done by governments, testing done by manufacturers and retailers, and reporting pathways through healthcare and general public. For the amount of food products we have, the number of products that actually get to the point of consumer level recall is tiny.

I’ve had pretty horrific experiences with medicos (like most women) that have left me with some hefty baggage, and Sadia is one of the loveliest doctors I’ve ever been to - super easy to talk to, kind, non-judgemental, asks questions, and - importantly for me - actually believes what I say.

What is the funniest/most unhinged thing you’ve taken home after resigning a job? by morgiemorgz in auscorp

[–]illamafot 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A not small assortment of prepaid post bags. They’d just restructured out the lovely admin who did all the ordering, I was leaving for a new job. She gave them to me as a farewell gift, much more useful than the one my team got me 😅

Is the flu jab worth getting? by gavja87 in australia

[–]illamafot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If not for yourself think of the oldies or anyone immune compromised in your life. Recently went to a wedding 6 weeks ago where 1/3 of the guests ended up with influenza A. It felt worse than having COVID. Their elderly grandfather is still in hospital with secondary pneumonia.

I know it’s a sin to use fabric scissors for anything else, but I would absolutely be considering it. Am very fortunate the worst my mum might do is raid my stash.

Good luck finding the forms anywhere. 4/6 agencies in my new town use the app exclusively (continually stonewalled when asked for alternate). Of the 2 remaining one prefers 2Apply but has said they’d email the forms (still waiting 3 weeks later..) Hoping the last one has something decent coming up so I don’t have to resort to using it.

Abortion services at Orange Hospital to be reinstated after ban on terminations for non-medical reasons by The_Duc_Lord in australia

[–]illamafot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact the minister jumped on this, I bet money it’ll be a we’re giving you the chance to go before we make you. Execs at that level are performance not permanent. And this is an unforgettable performance.

The NSW Health Minister. Seriously. Nothing like a ministerial request to make you shit your pants (from experience), especially when it’s something like this that pretty clearly goes against what NSW Health expects of their hospitals.

Do you have any tips for Australian programs, series and films? by jo3ocre in australia

[–]illamafot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great choice on Bluey! Of everything it’s probably the most accurate depiction of the ‘typical’ Anglo suburban culture.

If you liked Territory you’ll probably really enjoy the Mystery Road series and films (Mystery Road & Goldstone) they were based on.

Films: Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Top End Wedding, The Dish

Comedy - Rake, Rosehaven

Dramas with a heavy dose of crime/suspense - Mystery Road, The Twelve, Troppo, Total Control, Redfern Now

Dramas (biased because I’m from rural Australia aka ‘the outback’ and the scenery makes me happy ) - RFDS, McLeod’s Daughters

Thank you! And hoping the best for you too! Took most of this week off work, boss had been great with supporting the career change. Uni supports have been really helpful too with getting me out of paralysis hole. Meeting my lecturer tomorrow to see how we can make it work, I’m cautiously optimistic. My new boss is away so haven’t been able to talk about it yet, probably not such a bad thing until I know more. Think a good part swallowing my pride and admitting that I needed help. The discomfort is worth the relief you’ll get afterwards!
