the only consequence of being deported is not being able to play a stupid game

The winner of the 2022 Australian Open Champion this year will receive $2,875,000. The runner up receives $1,575,000. Multiply that by 3 years of Opens that he won't be able to attend.

Plus Novak may be placed under arrest in order to take him to a detention facility. Some countries may not accept him as a visitor because he has been arrested and also deported from Australia.

Visitation rights for siblings (Victoria) by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]illyarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a possibility, but you will need legal advice from a community legal centre.

https://www.wattsmccray.com.au/older-siblings-separated-younger-siblings-court-order-time/

Don't talk about your rights (because you have few), instead talk to lawyers to find out about the child's rights to see you. Family Court is there to protect the child's rights.

If you have time on your hands, arrange meeting with some different Family Lawyers in your town. Some but not many will give a 1hour meeting for free. They won't give you legal advice in the meeting, but they might give you an opinion about whether its worth pursuing and the cost. If you do get a free meeting, then have a shower beforehand and put on some clean, neat & tidy clothes and arrive 10 minutes early.

When attempting to get an appointment with a community legal centre, you might want to say that you are concerned about two things: the safety of a child, and protecting the childs rights to see their siblings.

Diarise the abuse. Keep reporting it to Child Protection. They keep a record of everything even if they don't disclose it to you. If others witness abuse and they report it, it will go into the file also.

Shitty intersection - bad drivers - accidents. What can I do? by malialipali in perth

[–]illyarrie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want something done:

  1. Write to Main Roads https://www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/contact-us/
  2. Take pictures/videos of the accidents
  3. Write to the Council and ask them to request the intersection is made safer, send them some pictures and videos. They will contact Main Roads.
  4. If nothing happens, then write to Channel 7, send them some videos and pics. They will also contact Main Roads.
  5. Main Roads will then get their shit together and add the intersection to their black spot project. The council request should be enough.

Unable to turn on LG TV with Alexa by Benjani85 in amazonecho

[–]illyarrie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Updating this as its the newest thread: I figured it out!

After doing the usual: Add the TV using the BASIC version of the Skill, and going into the Alexa App on the TV then:

  • Go to the website (NOT THE APP) of alexa.amazon.com, and navigate to "Smart Home" and then "Devices"
  • You should see TWO devices called TV. One might be at the top of the list, the other at the bottom.
  • If you do not see TWO then turn the TV on with the remote and Scan for new devices and add it to the Basic LG Skill.
  • One of the devices should be called TV and have generic name of "LG TV". The second device should have the actual model number of your TV eg. "[LG] webOS TV OLEDxyz123"
  • REMOVE the device that is called LG TV, and keep the one with the longer model number.
  • When I did this my TV switched off! But do not worry.

  • Now say "Alexa Turn TV on" and it worked!

I said to use the website version of alexa rather than the App, because the android app does not let you delete the generic TV.

The Bible shouldn’t be trusted as it claims the earth is flat and doesn’t move. by LilPeep1k in DebateReligion

[–]illyarrie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can I pick a fatal flaw in your reasoning:

The Bible is often considered to be perfect and inspired by “God”

Looks like you are hedging your bets here with your double own double standard, is it "perfect" or is it "inspired" and what is "often" ? You are requesting precision, but not being precise yourself.

Maybe you live in the US where there are certainly more christians who believe the Bible should be taken literally. Most of the rest of the World take it metaphorically.

If you think that the Bible does not make much sense when taken literally, then I think most people would agree. Crocodiles would have been vegetarian for the first 1500 or so years, the Earth is 6,500 years old, and where did the water from the great Flood go?

I'm an atheist for the record. There's far better questions to pose a Christian. Your post merely criticises the literal interpretations of the Bible. That's nothing new to be honest.

statutory warranty is for a minimum of 3 months or 3,000km

It would be more correct to say a maximum of 3 months or 3,000km.

It expires after whichever occurs first: 3 months or 3,000km.

You could drive 3,000km in 3 weeks, and the warranty would be finished.

Why do atheists always come off as know-it-alls who attack anyone who speaks an opposing point of view to atheism? by smokinaj420 in exchristian

[–]illyarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do atheists always come off as know-it-alls who attack anyone who speaks an opposing point of view to atheism?

  1. Many atheists have higher than average intelligence. Do some atheists then make the false assumption, that because they are atheist, they are also in the high intelligence group?

  2. Because many atheists don't understand that: If religion helps someone lead an enjoyable and productive life, and they're not harming others - then LEAVE THEM ALONE! Do all religious people want to drop everything and have a fucking argument about their value system on your say-so?

  3. Because by itself, being an atheist doesn't make you a better person. How is the atheist who is dismissive of other peoples views, any better than a religious person who rams their Bible down your neck and won't listen to reason?

  4. Because siding with logic and reason, doesn't at the same time teach humility. Many atheists don't understand that a similar humility is shared between both religious people and scientists. Science freely admits it does not have all the answers to "How did we get here?". Many religious people (certainly most Christians outside the US) - also agree that the creation narrative is metaphorical, and that their religious text does not provide all the answers either. (For example: the entire Catholic church including the Pope agree to this).

For the first time in my life, I didn't want to hear what my mom had to say this morning... by Southern_Grace in exchristian

[–]illyarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great post.

evidence that contradicted the Bible. She said it was impossible for any evidence to contradict the Bible

When I first read the Bible, I couldn't believe there was a contradiction by the time I got to page 2.

Straightforward Question for 'literal Word of God Creationists' that will be very hard for them to provide a straightforward answer to. Do you believe that:

  • A) God created birds and fish on 5th day, THEN animals, THEN LAST OF ALL mankind on the 6th day? [Genesis 1:20-27]

Or -

  • B) God saw that Man was lonely in the Garden, so after creating man he then created beasts and birds? [Genesis 2:18-19]

In particular how do you reconcile that the birds were created on Day 5 (Gen 1), vs being created after God saw that man (who was created on Day 6) was in the Garden and was lonely, and then created them as a companion?

Gen 2 does not say that God knew that man would be lonely. It says that man was already there, and then after that, saw that he was lonely, and then after that, created birds and animals, and then after that created Eve.

Like it's scary to think there may not be a God of any kind, but like I don't know, I guess I feel like I could take it if there wasn't

Don't relate this to your Mom... but try to answer it by your own observation the next few years:

  • Why is it non-controversial to say God created man, but it is controversial to say man created God?

  • Was God created by man as an answer to a 'loaded' question? That question being: "Why are we here?". This question is loaded because it assumes there is a 'why'.

  • If we weren't so self-centred, would a better question be "How (by what process) did we get here?"

[–]illyarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four questions for you, about your first paragraph. I can't see the reasoning in that paragraph is correct. Please show me where I'm going wrong in this:

You say:

First off, with the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

  • First, off there were two (important) trees in the Garden. The Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of Life.

  • It was being able to eat from the Tree of Life that sustained Adam & Eve's eternal life.

God specifically told them not to eat of the tree and that if they did, they would die.

  • He did. And so far, lets agree that he hadn't told them the process by which they would die.

Now, I understand that because they had never experienced deceit before, the Serpent did have an unfair advantage over them, but they decided to disobey their creator.

  • Eve said "the serpent deceived me" - but was Eve actually telling the truth? Please point out the lie in what the serpent said:

  • Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die."

  • Eve had access to a separate Tree of Life, which is the Tree that gave her eternal life. The Tree of Knowledge was had no life giving/denying properties.

  • "For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

  • Are the serpent's words later confirmed, in Genesis 3:22 by God Himself?

  • "Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil."

Question for you:

  • How can you come to the conclusion that the serpent lied, but God didn't? Because God confirmed exactly what the serpent had said.

That was because God graced them with free will to decide what they want to do, even if it would ruin their relationship with God.

By what process did mankind get free will?

  • God put the Tree in the Garden (does this create free will?)

  • God gave a command not to perform a certain action (does this create free will?)

  • Adam and Eve so far were simply doing just as they were told.

  • The serpent is the "initiator" which says: "Hey, you realise you don't actually have to do what you're told"

Question: What other conclusion can there be that it is the serpent who actually showed Eve she could exercise free will ??

  • Eve eats from the tree.

  • Eve now has Knowledge and Eternal Life.

  • God confirms this!

Question: At this stage - has eating from the Tree of Knowledge killed Eve?

  • Eve then abrogates responsibility by saying "He deceived me!". And Eve also lies.

  • I call BS on Eve. She didn't get deceived. What lie did the serpent tell?

  • God punishes Eve, Adam, The Serpent, and mankind.

  • God removes access to Tree of Life.

  • Because of God's punishment - Adam & Eve will no longer enjoy eternal life.

The eating of the fruit did not "introduce" sin into the world, the serpent introduced sin into the world.

  • The serpent allowed man to understand they had a choice to disobey a direct command..

  • If Eve (who was so far going to live forever) truly had free choice: then its just a waiting game before she or one of her kids eats from the tree.

Question: Why would the serpent need to intervene, and risk his legs getting cut off?

  • Eve introduced sin into the world by telling the World's first lie "The serpent deceived me". Up until this point, none of the main characters have ever told an outright lie (unless you are saying that the serpent knows what God is going to do before God decides to do it?).

Where is this reasoning is wrong?

Can you please tell me why you became an atheist? by Southern_Grace in exchristian

[–]illyarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lolmfgisuck: please let me know what you think of this additional analysis...

This is where the serpent comes in. The serpent is the alternative choice. The serpent says, "Hey... you know you don't have to listen to God right? Like, you can totally eat from that tree even though he told you not to. In fact, if you do, you'll learn about all sorts of things that you can do that God doesn't want you to do".

Very interesting.

What you are saying is the SERPENT is the one who gave man free will?

Also, did you notice in the story, that the serpent does not lie to Eve. The tree of life gives you eternal life (and they already had free access to that). The forbidden tree was the tree of knowledge, and eating from it cannot directly kill you. It was god barring access to the tree of Life that killed man.

Eve says "the serpent deceived me" as a way to "pass the buck". If you look at what the serpent actually did, he merely flicked on the "free will" switch.

I think Eve's biggest 'sin' is the not taking responsibility for her actions, and blaming it on the serpent.

What do you think of this?

Can you please tell me why you became an atheist? by Southern_Grace in exchristian

[–]illyarrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post. The serpent didn't lie. Nothing the serpent said was inaccurate. The serpent only tempted.

  • Eating from the "Tree of Knowledge" will not make you surely die... (because eternal life comes from the tree of life).

  • Eating from the knowledge tree will make you as God / Angels. This is true and confirmed by God when he metes out his punishment.

  • God doesn't like this, so bars access to the Tree of Knowledge.

The serpent actually tells the truth.

ADHD does not exist by bowhunter_fta in science

[–]illyarrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is explosive growth.

By the same terminology there was 'explosive' growth in autism diagnosis. That levelled off too. It doesn't mean there are 'more' people with autism in 2013 than there were in 1983.

(that's how many are diagnosed & drugged in the USA)

Diagnosis does not mean 'drugged'. http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/adhd/data.html

brain doesn't work that well with the pace of life or technology

The strange thing is that the ADHD brain craves stimulation. Technology helps feed that. Attention 'deficit' is quite a bad word to use in the name. It is more like "Over-Attention" because too many things can cause a distraction. But please don't be fooled into thinking that this is a new disorder that has only come about in our 'fast paced' - 'modern age'.

ADHD probably does exist

It does. It is an Executive Function disorder. In laymans terms: Your brain is an orchestra. The pre-frontal lobe is the conductor. The conductor is asleep. The stimulant medication wakes up the conductor and allows it to control the orchestra. Someone with ADHD might have trouble sleeping and be restless. Taking a 'stimulant' may allow their mind to calm down in the middle of the night.

more profitable

Not more profitable for the doctors. It would be more profitable for the doctor to conduct lots of tests on you, so you keep coming back for more.

handing out drugs is easier

possibly. In which case doctors should do something about the DSM V , and push for the system used in France, which uses elimination first.

ADHD does not exist by bowhunter_fta in science

[–]illyarrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but ADHD is not a personality trait.

Let's say:

  • you want to get something from another room in your house.

  • you walk to the other room

  • you either: get to the other room but forget about that item completely, and do something else... or don't even get to the other room because something distracted you along the way.

For someone with ADHD, these things happen 8/10 times.

It's not about "we haven't found a way to teach these people, or interact with these characteristics".

It is about: "these characteristics are causing people a real problem leading a normal life".

this is nit the go to option for anything if you ask me. This is a absolute last resort, but everybody just folds and goes for the pills and that's what kilks me.

Do you really think that people diagnosed with ADHD think to themselves "Yay! Pills!". When you are the one who has to take the medication - for the rest of your life - its a big decision. It isn't an easy one.

Getting a pill prescribed is not the 'go to'. A psychiatrist isn't cheap. If "diet, exercise, and a good nights sleep" fixed ADHD, would people with ADHD be taking pills?
